O'Shea talks about how injured players help to coach up their replacements as everyone wants to ensure they are ready and hopefully win the game. Whereas you used to have guys like Westwood that would rather sulk than help his replacement. Bigblue204 1
Bubba Zanetti Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 (edited) At one point i had watched probably 15 straight years of training camp, and this pic is pretty much the extent of Roberts' stretching and warmup regime during camp. Ill never forget all the times i saw him chatting with Milt and the other vets sitting just like this while they all did their stretching and warmups. 4 minutes ago, Jesse said: Only exciting part about every team he played on. Stickem Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 Roberts was a special guy....never took work outs or healthy regime seriously AND YET he deliverd on the field time and time again...I often wondered how good Charlie could've/would've been had he listened to Milt about working out ... A true anomley was Blink and he still remains one of my all time favourite players of all time....Say what you will about the guy....his record speaks for itself...I only wished his last games were with us and not out on the coast...we could have done something better when he departed rebusrankin and wbbfan 2
17to85 Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 Has to be one of the all time most naturally gifted athletes going right? To be that good without putting in the work is astounding. bearpants 1
greenrider55 Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 Calgary had a few nice seasons but only got one championship out of it in 2018 on their dominant run. They lost to the lowly Redblacks in 2016, and then Toronto in 2017. Winnipeg is likely going to three-peat. Bo Levi seemed to struggle in the big games, along with coaching errors. The Stamps got rattled. These Bombers don’t get rattled. They could be down 21 points in the 4th Q and I’d still bet on them to pull it out. I may be a Rider fan, but I appreciate greatness. My dream matchup would be the 2021 Bombers vs the 2009 Alouettes. bearpants 1
Eternal optimist Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 I think Bo Levi hates the cold more than other QBs. He was still phenomenal at his peak, but he just seemed to always play a bit off in the cold or snow
Arnold_Palmer Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 (edited) Roberts ran hard. I really don’t care that he didn’t stretch or smoked. He was completely durable during his time in Winnipeg, looked at 05 for example on one or the worst o lines or all time; and a stagnant offense he has nearly 350 total touches. He ran hard, gave it all he got on the field and never got hurt. The dude gets way too much slander on here. He was our work horse at 5 foot nothing, a hundred and nothing pounds. Rich Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 Can’t think of many players who could electrify the crowd with their play the way Roberts did. The holes he was able to squeeze through at the line, the ankle breaking moves he would pull off to juke people out. I’m happy I was able to watch him live in stadium all those years. The biggest difference on the defensive lines right now IMO is that everyone uses heavy rotations to keep players fresh moreso than a dramatic change. Db yeah but I think he was an extreme outlier in that era. He was the first interior linemen I can recall in the cfl who was a top level athlete (national rugby team iirc) if stove played the length of dbs career in the cfl he’d be at worst the second best dt in league history. most every position out side of ol is like that in football now. The big difference is that most dts in the cfl can run like des used to and des are better run jump athletes than half the wrs in the league 20 years ago. Tracker 1

I don’t think he needed the same work out regiment. But I think being leaner, and stronger would’ve made him into an nfl player. Nothing was going to give him a top speed gear. And with the nature of his bursty change of direction running any thing that put more wear on his hips knees and plantar facia to high ankle area would’ve shortened his career.
Booch Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 thing with Roberts...for a little dude who didnt train,,,,he carried the load injury free basically...and how many games did we watch him in the fourth quarter when everyone knew he was getting the ball just grind out first down after first down to kill out the clock...phenomenal what he did, in the tiny lil cheeseburger lovin smoking body...interesting fact tho...strength wise and if he did enter the weight room he was phenomenally strong...like almost in an unbelievable way...lil fella just was gifted...too bad he didnt stay on track here and get in 3 or more good years
Tracker Posted October 3, 2022 Report Posted October 3, 2022 I saw Mack Herron at his prime and think he was as good as Roberts with a few extra kilos of muscle that allowed him to break tackles. His career was also cut short for entirely different reasons. A helluva athlete but a shabby example of a human being. Noeller 1
