Even the 600k they claim they're ready to give Rourke seems insane to me. How can you build a team around that??

600k is doable. We are paying Collaros 550k. Once you start getting into the 700k mark though....

Only doable if you draft and scout really well.  You can't continue to sign FA's like Lucky, Rhymes etc.  with a $550K quarterback.

No doubt about that. If you paying for a QB like we are, or if BC was shelling out 600k, then you have to change your positional salary scale to accommodate it, so you better have good young players on the cheap ready in camp.

Having buy-in from the vets on the team helps too.  We have a number of guys who could get more through FA but choose to take less to play here.

Have to have success first. We paid value to bring guys in, but they've taken less to stay to "run it back".

It's definitely not easy to sustain.

Lions did get Ryan Rigmaiden back a couple of years ago.  Would expect they have a decent pipeline coming in.

They are going to have to. Last year they managed a distant 2nd place finish with only 100k spent on their starting QB. They will be paying at least 4x that with the possibility of 6x this year. That's a lot of salary to cut.

they're gonna be left with VAJ and no chance are they paying 400 or 600k. The upside to VAJ, if there is one, is that it allows them to be active in FA and get some complimentary players. They'll still suck, because VAJ sucks, but it's a better position than Rourke and nobody else...

Yeah, the Bombers have pretty much proven that that formula doesn't work

A cheaper QB with higher priced talent around him, gets you approximately 11 - 7 and an early playoff exit

The odd time, a team like that will fluke their way to a championship - but it's a very unsafe bet

They pay Rourke $600,000 then they'll lose guys like Dominique Rhymes & Whitehead. Chungh will want his pound of flesh. Guys on D. Their salary cap issues will be a mess.

The Lions still have Michael O'Connor, it'll be interesting to see if they have confidence to leave him as the backup or pursue another QB like Fajardo in F.A..

Adios Rourke.......Leo's will be scrambling now.....Do they go with VAJ..orrrr FAJ....or maybe the backup guy O'Connor.......or is there an outside chance Bo could be in the mix???? hmmmmm...Matters not as Bombers wouldn't mind facing any of the above heh heh

Honestly if it’s 600k to your starter you run thin at his back up. That’d mean no more vaj imo.  It’s only 50k more a year than zach. You can’t even get a guy on league min with the difference. 600k makes it harder 700k is borderline crippling.

the lions however we’re going to have a hard off season no matter what. When ever you build around big  free agent pick ups with a cheap starting qb it’s going to be hard to sustain once you turn it around. The lions will have to add probably 250k in hard salary at qb and try to keep an insane amount of cap flexibility this coming year. Doing that and maintaining your core will be a nightmare doing that and improving will be impossible with out hitting the lotto on rookies.

VAJ is their starter for sure this season and I couldn't be happier. They'll be back in the dumpster with The Gappers and the LOLks in 23. Fab.

It’s going to be an insanely hard off season for the Leo’s. Do you go all in on a blm or over pay a harris do you cut guys mid season if rourke gets cut? Do you run that much under the cap? It guts their ability to compete in free agency this year too. Who wants to sign with a team in that qb situation?

I would love to see the stats on how often starter quality or better qbs go to the nfl and then return to their previous team. I feel like the returnees would be in the minority.

Adams Jr. is under contract for the 2023 season. He’s currently slated to collect a $25,000 active roster bonus on February 15 and earn a $113,000 base salary with an additional $13,500 in housing. The dual-threat passer has a chance to pocket $11,111.11 per game for being the starting QB and $1,388.88 per game for playing 51 percent or more of the offensive plays, while 20 or more touchdown passes unlocks a $25,000 bonus.

Assuming he starts all the games & throws 20+ TD's, that's 350ishK.

Collaros will be paid $600,000 annually in his new agreement for a total of $1.8 million over three years through the 2025 season. $250,000 of his $500,000 base salary is guaranteed in the final year of the contract, as per the new collective bargaining agreement stipulation allowing contracts for veteran players to be partially guaranteed.

$250K more than VAJ.

Based on QB salary, we're in a significantly worse spot SMS wise than the Lions.

Burnham's $165K salary is already off the books, and the Lions say they won't go shopping for another top end receiver.

My guess is they keep VAJ, they don't sign BLM or Faj-JJ & they are still in the top 3 in the west.
