SpeedFlex27 Posted May 20, 2023 Report Posted May 20, 2023 (edited) I just remember Super Bowl VI (I believe). The Cowboys beat the Dolphins 24-3. What I remember was after the game when CBS broadcaster Tom Brookshier tried to interview Cowboys Halfback Duane Thomas. Thomas was embroiled in a contract dispute with Dallas & had come to training camp that season with a huge chip on his shoulder. He refused to talk to his teammates & his coaches including Tom Landry that entire season. Thomas maintained that silence all season long. When Brookshier tried to interview Thomas in the victor's locker room, he did talk but gave very short gruff answers & brushed off Brookshier on national tv. He was accompanied in the locker room by Jim Brown who gave more weight to the answers Thomas made. I remember Brown being no more friendlier to Brookshier than Thomas was. He even ended the interview by saying Thomas would answer no more questions. I doubt if there was ever another football interview like that. Jump to 6:59 to see the interview. Maybe for being an awful human being, from his wikipedia: Quote Brown was arrested at least seven times for assault, mainly against women. During the era when the incidents occured, prominent men were usually not scrutinized for reported offenses against women. He was never found guilty of a major crime; in most of the cases, the women refused to press charges after calling the police. In 1965, Brown was arrested in his hotel room for assault and battery against 18-year-old Brenda Ayres; he was later acquitted of those charges. A year later, he fought paternity allegations that he fathered her child. In 1968, Brown was charged with assault with intent to commit murder after model Eva Bohn-Chin was found beneath the balcony of Brown's second-floor apartment. The charges were later dismissed after Bohn-Chin refused to cooperate with the prosecutor's office. Brown was also ordered to pay a $300 fine for striking a deputy sheriff involved in the investigation during the incident. In Brown's autobiography, he stated that Bohn-Chin was angry and jealous over an affair he had been having with Gloria Steinem, and this argument is what led to the "misunderstanding with the police". In 1970, Brown was found not guilty of assault and battery, the charges stemming from a road-rage incident that had occurred in 1969. In 1975, Brown was convicted of misdemeanor battery for beating and choking his golfing partner, Frank Snow. He was sentenced to one day in jail, two years' probation, and a fine of $500. In 1985, Brown was charged with raping a 33-year-old woman. The charges were later dismissed. In 1986, he was arrested for assaulting his fiancée Debra Clark. Clark refused to press charges, and he was released. In 1999, Brown was arrested and charged with making terroristic threats toward his wife Monique. According to Brown, "The only time [we] ever have an argument is during [her menstrual period]". Later that year, he was found guilty of vandalism for smashing her car with a shovel. He was sentenced to three years' probation, one year of domestic violence counseling, and 400 hours of community service or 40 hours on a work crew along with a $1,800 fine. Brown ignored the terms of his sentence and in 2000 was sentenced to six months in jail, which he began serving in 2002 after refusing the court-ordered counseling and community service. He was released after three months. The TD catch he made in the '01 GC that was basically triple coverage was just absolutely ridiculous...
Tracker Posted May 24, 2023 Report Posted May 24, 2023 Ms, Turner said repeatedly that she had not had a good life. Her ex (Ike Turner) introduced her to heroin and also beat her savagely for years. She struggled with addiction and, from reports, was in and out of recovery over the years. She has now escaped the body that was her prison of pain for several years and perhaps is now at peace. kelownabomberfan Posted May 29, 2023 Report Posted May 29, 2023 (edited) George Maharis, dashing star of ‘Route 66,’ dies at 94 George Maharis, an actor with rugged good looks who cruised the country in a Corvette convertible in the hit early 1960s TV series “Route 66,” died May 24 at his home in Beverly Hills, Calif. He was 94. The cause was complications from hepatitis, his friend and caretaker Marc Bahan told the Hollywood Reporter. On “Route 66,” Mr. Maharis played Buz Murdock, a hardened survivor of New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen. His co-star Martin Milner, who died in 2015, was Tod Stiles, a young man raised in wealth who upon his father’s death was left with nothing but a shiny new Corvette. Each week brought a new adventure in a new city. "Route 66″ was the rare series at the time that was filmed on location, moving to new towns and cities for each new episode. It featured as guests many future stars, including Robert Redford, James Caan, Robert Duvall and Alan Alda in some of their earliest roles. “Route 66” spawned its own hit song, an instrumental composed by Nelson Riddle. The more familiar tune, “(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66,” was not connected to the series. Mr. Maharis left the show after the third season, reputedly amid rumors of ill health and a contract dispute, but his biographer, Karen Blocher, said it was because the producers found out he was gay and wanted him off the show after promoting his virile image. Tracker Posted June 6, 2023 Report Posted June 6, 2023 Astrud Gilberto, Singer Of 'The Girl From Ipanema,' Dead At 83 NEW YORK (AP) — Astrud Gilberto, the Brazilian singer, songwriter and entertainer whose off-hand, English-language cameo on “The Girl from Ipanema” made her a worldwide voice of bossa nova, has died at age 83. Musician Paul Ricci, a family friend, confirmed that she died Monday. He did not provide additional details. Born in Salvador, Bahia and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Gilberto became an overnight, unexpected superstar in 1964, thanks to knowing just enough English to be recruited by the makers of “Getz/Gilberto,” the classic bossa nova album featuring saxophonist Stan Getz and her then-husband, singer-songwriter-guitarist João Gilberto.

blue_gold_84 Posted June 7, 2023 Report Posted June 7, 2023 https://www.tsn.ca/wrestling-legend-the-iron-sheik-dead-at-81-1.1970289 Quote Wrestling icon the Iron Sheik has died at the age of 81. Born Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, the Sheik was one of the World Wrestling Federation's most prominent heels of the 1980s, winning the WWF Championship in 1983. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. Prior to getting into pro wrestling, Vaziri was an Olympic wrestler, representing his native Iran at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City and serving as a coach for the United States wresting team at the 1972 Munich Olympics. While Vaziri made his WWF debut in 1979, it wasn't until his return to the promotion in 1983 that he received his first major push when he feuded with then champion Bob Backlund. Vaziri would defeat Backlund with the Camel Clutch at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 26. His reign as champion would only last weeks, as Vaziri would drop the title to Hulk Hogan in a match widely considered to be the kickoff to "Hulkamania" on Jan. 23, 1984. Noeller 1
