I haven't been hardcore watching the team in the last 3 or so seasons... but it feels like earlier on we drafted well and lately it's just been a lot of misses and not many hits.

we used to be picking a lot higher too, that helps.

Fergie's team made the playoffs 7 straight years, should never have been fired. Then came the mediocrity via Smith though to be fair Fergie fired coaches every 2.5 years and got new coach bumps every time. Watt, Long, Maloney, Murdoch.

The Jets had a good team the year that they were 4th in the league, but they had no chance against the Oilers in Round 2 after Hawerchuk had his ribs busted by Jamie Macoun of the Flames in the third game of the first round series against the Flames.  The previous seasons the Jets had made the playoffs with a losing record, thanks to the crappy division they were in.  Those teams weren't that great.

Reading this history book it is heartbreaking to read all of the "would haves" and "should haves" including Fergie trading away his third round draft pick in the 1984 draft to Montreal, which they used to draft Patrick Roy.  That being said, the Jets did have a 2nd round pick in that draft that they used to draft Peter Douris, who played a grand total of 6 NHL games with Winnipeg.

"Bowness" question - who was the Jets assistant coach in 1984-1985?  Man I am having so much deja vu here this year.

Pretty smart to quit at his age to coach.

That is nothing look at the year we drafted Jimmy Mann and what we COULD of drafted, ugh. Fergie made some great draft picks , but too many terrible ones .
