Atomic Posted August 9, 2023 Report Posted August 9, 2023 Don't care so much about the DL this week but really surprised we are sticking with McCrae as the returner. He is scary back there and not in a good way. Booch, Jesse, captaincanuck12 and 1 other 4

Its going to take a game losing McCrae punt return fumble in the 4th quarter of a close game for him to make any changes. I dont get it. We barely ever use McCrae and he's not needed at the moment especially with Lawler back. O'Shea/coaches cant possibly all be blind and not noticing the bobbles every time McCrae catches a kick. Its just a matter of time until one hits the ground. Youve got an in-house perfect solution in Parker. USE HIM FOR F**K SAKES. rebusrankin and Stickem 2

Truth seems with Osh that if we win...he just keeps as is...sure why change things...but also there are options to make us even better, with guys who have been here...not rookies...so why wait for a screw-up causing a loss...or just a loss cause a certain player wasn't the best option....dont get that...be pro-active and not reactive Piggy 1 and Bubba Zanetti 1 1
rebusrankin Posted August 9, 2023 Report Posted August 9, 2023 I don't get keeping McCrae at returner when he's been meh and shaky to boot. I don't get not adding another DL. I don't get why Osh loves Jackson so much. A DA spot on a back up fullback, STer is a total waste. Sadly he's likely on until we have a DL disaster that costs us a game. Jesse 1

Pepper_Brooks Posted August 9, 2023 Report Posted August 9, 2023 I can't wait to catch tomorrow's game featuring Brian "Blitzing Bolt" Cole. His bright performance in limited plays has me eager to see him in action, especially as he seems to be a great match against the Elks' young and mobile QB Tre Ford. Tracker 1
bearpants Posted August 9, 2023 Report Posted August 9, 2023 the lack of DL rotation makes me nervous... not just for in-game replacement... but for wearing out Jeffcoat (and Willie, for that matter) in the early-mid season... I'd rather Jeffcoat take lots of snaps off now and be ready to go 100% in November... As for the NA rule... let me see if I have this correct... from Edmonton's perspective (because they are actually using it)... Ealy will "start" the game (i.e. play one snap) then sub out for Ceresna... then throughout the game, the can run Ceresna and Ealy for 23 snaps, as Ceresna would technically be subbing in for Canadian starter Nelson at that point... seems like something we should be using... Flipping that over to us... we could list Walker as the NA... "start" Fox... then play 23 snaps with both of them as Walker would be subbing for Thomas... K-Shack and rebusrankin 2
GCn20 Posted August 9, 2023 Report Posted August 9, 2023 On 2023-08-07 at 3:39 PM, TrueBlue4ever said: Problem that hasn’t been analyzed as fully in the whole “roster management” debate is that these moves aren’t made in a vacuum, and most every roster switch requires a counter measure. So if you pull Jackson for Fox as an example, we now have no fullback on the roster, since Miller is still hurt. So one possibility is that Jackson is used as the DA because of ratio rules and we need that Canadian starter on the roster on offence. Or we make another counter measure like benching Bailey for O’Leary-Orange. Now I don’t pretend to have the answers here, would be happy to have others explain a scenario that works that keeps players at every position and factors in the ratio requirements. Easy to say we need another DL or that Jake Thomas should be sat, but it isn’t as simple as that with the Canadian ratio rules or the snap limit and eligibility years required for the DA. Fortunately the powers that be have found a way to manage it adequately enough to keep us winning a lot more than not. Two random questions for those more in the know. First, I don’t see where Jamal Parker had any more significant college experience returning punts than McCrae (Parker had only 2 punt returns in his 4 year career in college, McCrae zero) but certainly had more experience as a kick returner (which McCrae also did, but in a more limited capacity). So the first question is: is there any significant difference in fielding punts vs kickoffs? I’ve certainly seen specialists in each area, and some like Grant handle both jobs very well, but are there any factors that make one more technically difficult than the other? Second question regarding fatigue and the need for rotational players. Are certain positions more prone to players getting gassed than others? If so, which ones and why? I have my ideas but want to hear from those in the know. Thanks in advance. The trenches gas out faster because the guys in them are big men carrying extra pounds. Fielding punts is a different skill than fielding kickoffs but it's more of a mental thing because we don't have fair catch. You gotta field it and get your eyes upfield ASAP or you will be road kill. Some guys struggle with that. Also punts are generally coming down more vertically because of hang time. That makes it more challenging as well. The depth chart I was expecting. Hopefully, Grant is ready to go soon. TrueBlue4ever 1

Like, I don't want to be the guy in the jersey of the team that finally let Edm finally win a home game.... ugh. I have spent enough time in both Commonwealth and McMahon where the Bombers got embarrassed and I had to hear all about it.
