GCn20 Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 (edited) At this point and time there are so many options available to KW as far as SMS goes. Could we sign BO, Schoen, Streveler....absolutely no problem we could. They all want to be here. Should we? That's the real question and really the only person in position to answer that is KW because none of us know who he would ship out and who he would replace those he ships out with. Without carnal knowledge of what any of these guys want for salary and who we gotta carve out to make room, and what kind of blue chipper prospects and back room convos KW is having we will all just have to wait until this crazy carousel called the offseason becomes clearer. Right now, BO, Schoen and Strev all remain strong possibilities to sign with us and if the price is right I am sure we want them all. Edited January 23 by GCn20 rebusrankin, TBURGESS and Jesse 2 1
Booch Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 unless inside the walls hard to determine what and why For speculation sakes, say we dispose of Augustine, Miller, Briggs, Thomas, Kolo,Gauthier, Castillo and Benson...rough avg salary of around 115 for those guys saves you 920k.....slice away 600k for 8 entry level deals, and really with the exception of maybe Castillo all can be entry level, or a role guy in FA on his second deal, which will still be cheap...That fee's you up roughly 300...320k after the fact....which can go a long way in re-upping a few key guys, or bringing someone in Rough clacs and all before some u all go jumping down my throat, but thats a way to free up some salary, and shed some older declioning dead weight....and a draft this yr, looking at talent and upside, and not just the way we have been doing it with ST only guys is paramount We could rally boost the roster too if we walk away from a possible 180k+ salary with BO, as we could garner another 100k there filling his role with a first yr import. I am not turning on BO by any stretch but you have to look where bang for buck makes you stronger, and if his asks gets to be too much...It aint worth it anymore Piggy 1 and GCn20 1 1
JuranBoldenRules Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 15 hours ago, Mike said: The thing people need to remember about a Canadian running back is that they are so few and far between that committing to one as a ratio breaker means you also have to invest the capital in a capable backup as well. Johnny Augustine made 90k last year, probably close to the going rate unless you find a good rookie. Is there a team that is going to invest 300k into a RB1/2? If there is, I hope it’s not us. (obviously you could flip your ratio or dress more than the required amount of Canadians but there’s a cost to that as well) This is actually where they could use the "new" (year old) roster rules to their advantage on offense at receiver/running back. Whether we have Oliveria or Augustine back on the roster is the bigger question.

Maybe.

Fatty Liver Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 (edited) 2 hours ago, wbbfan said: It’s all speculation based on talks of wanting to reset the market. Imo, 300k is the absolute max for a wr. And I don’t think we can succeed with 2 WRs at 300k. 200-250max hard money imo is the range. Any thing in that range I keep schoen. If he wants 250-300 I take a long hard look at him vs lawler. Perhaps sign schoen and trade lawler if the market exists for him. going double rookie rb could have a cap hit in the 160k ish range, vs likely 300-350k for Brady and Augustine. That money could buy us an elite dl in free agency. $300k is beyond the max., the contracts of Lewis and Lawler are outliers that skewed the model and fall beyond the bounds of common sense, except in the case of Jones. Every other elite receiver topped out at or below $200k last season, accepting $50-$100k less than Lawler and Lewis. Hatcher, Hollins and Cottoy already re-signed with BC this season at or below $225k, Rhymes signed with the RB's for around $220k, the Elks cut Dunbar at $200k. Hopefully Schoen falls into the norm and doesn't add to the anomaly. Edited January 23 by Fatty Liver rebusrankin 1

Shoen, Lawler and Bagel? that is a nice core.

He plays very similar to Demski and their salaries are almost identical.
TrueBlue4ever Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 Should we read anything into the fact that the club has added 6 receivers but only one running back to the roster in the off season?

johnzo Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 I ran the numbers awhile ago and a CFL team will need to start 8-12 different receivers in the course of a season. I think that Calgary needed something like 13 in a recent year when they had a real bad run of injuries. You just need a lot of receivers in this league. Bigblue204 and rebusrankin 2
