bearpants Posted May 27 Report Posted May 27 I don't know exactly how it all works... but if I could get an in-stadium stream with DT and DB on the call for all Bomber road games... I would gladly take that over the TSN production.... Noeller, Tracker, Bigblue204 and 1 other 3 1

blue85gold Posted May 27 Report Posted May 27 Honestly I get the decision not to televise all CFL preseason games. It's just freaks like us that care to watch it. Mark H., johnzo, Wanna-B-Fanboy and 1 other 4

Booch Posted May 27 Report Posted May 27 we will have CJOB feed for this weekends game tho on the live stream so thats bonus...no need to sync up Tracker, Piggy 1, JohnnyAbonny and 5 others 8

Noeller Posted May 28 Report Posted May 28 So just for what it's worth... Production of live sports is incredibly expensive for broadcasters and just not worth it unless you can charge really high ad rates. When TSN radio didn't get the last Jets rights, it was actually considered somewhat of a win, because they could still do the Pre/Intermission/Post stuff, and not have to worry about carrying the cost of the broadcast (which MOST people are watching on TV anyhow). So anyhow, for TSN... They can't charge high ad rates for the pre season broadcasts because there aren't enough people watching... And without the high rates, they can't afford the broadcast. And, no, even if you wanted to say "well if they did a better job then maybe more people would watch!!" people just wouldn't... It's pre season CFL... As much as we diehards love it, there's not that many viewers. Not enough to make it worth their while anyhow. And yes they are the league's partner so they are supposed to take some risk to support the league but they're still a business and it has to make business sense for them to do anything. Their parent company's business is being cheap skates refusing to spend a nickle because they'd rather have that nickle in the pile of loot. rebusrankin 1

Ok, but we’re getting the video feed. So how much more expensive does it need to get?

Basically the in house Jumbotron feed. But the ACTUAL production... Like using Dome Productions.... Is extremely expensive. I'm not saying the people who do in house production aren't good, but the actual broadcast technician crew is very costly.

I don't think some folks on here realize just how many people work on a game day production. It isn't just 5 camera guys and two guys in a booth. johnzo, Noeller and Wanna-B-Fanboy 2 1

This is the "partner" that refuses to televise every round of the CFL Draft & doesn't even televise the league awards.

If the CFL can manage a video feed and audio, why can't TSN produce a cost effective version to get it on air?

Maybe the CFL wanted to charge them a large price to broadcast? What big network would ever air a live sport using a janky feed for which they would to pay someone else for the rights to display? If TSN were to show all pre season games then it would have to be done professionally complete with the full staff. If they could do it with only half the staff then they would do that for every game because in the end everything comes down to making money. It's a very silly thing to consider a big business not wanting to air games for any reason outside of making money. If pre season games were to make money then they would do it.

TSN extended it and made it incredibly boring. It was essentially unwatchable for any casual fan. There was absolutely nothing condensed about it and that wasn't at the discretion of football ops.

I don't fault the league and TSN for at least trying to create some content... maybe we don't like how it's being done, but they're trying to create some buzz ahead of the season...

Very true. My only complaint would be I have yet to see anyone say they actually like the way the draft is done on TSN. And not just this year, but going back years now. It's always boring and always the same. wbbfan 1
