It's worth bearing in mind that before covid he was ahead of gray on the depth chart... and gray started for this team. That's one reason. The other is that when he does in come for plays he is a body mover.

If we started Eli over gray we’d have had no back up C though.

At that point we wouldn’t use him in short yardage imo.

We’ve seen Eli at C, he’s damn good. Kola can’t read or act on the Ds alignment worth a damn.
I think it’s just mos loves kola, who is already pretty old while Eli is 28. He’s just one of those guys for mos.

That’s a good point. I’d have to agree.

The situation is just so maddening that I was looking for any possible reason.
I hate to harp on the same stuff, but it’s just so ridiculous.

It’s possible that he can’t read a D as well as kolo I suppose. I mean grasping. Kolo cdn school kinda knows the gimmick. Maybe Eli taking time to pick that up. It appears the center is responsible for a few things.

It doesn’t matter how well Kolo can read a d or not though, he’s getting physically dominated constantly.

How do we know Eli would be an upgrade?

Kolo and the whole line has struggled, true. But there has long been a lot of love for Eli on this board.

is he dominating during his reps?

We don't for sure but he's looked good when he's gone in.

Kolo gets no push and often gets manhandled.

Neufeld looks lousy too.

Its clear that the OL is an issue but we seem to be going with the mantra of these are our guys which is a terrible way to run a team.

Nope, that’s a false equivalency. because the Rimington isn’t based by any means solely on pff type stats. The Rimington was designed by a great linemen to fill the gap for centres. He was the top ranked centre going into the year for two years till his injury.
Centres are one of the hard positions to rate on paper but one of the easier ones to rate by watching.

Nope, sorry, I respectfully have to challenge you on this one. He was on the watchlist as one of the top 40 C's in the nation 2 years running, and while the final award is not decided by PFF, the watchlist is and has been since 2014 or so. It's all on their website, I've linked it before.

I get it. Unfortunately we can’t apply logic to situations that just aren’t logical.

no it isn’t, it starts with the projected starting C in each conference then goes by first and second team selections from previous years. The pff started tracking all d1 teams in 14, it wasn’t the be all and end all and still isn’t. He also lead his team in snap% in his active years, pan cakes etc.

Link what ever you like, tui Eli was an extremely highly touted C with big time nfl projections. Analytics in football scouting are not remotely close to the level of importance of even the nba, little on the mlb. Football outsiders had the most in depth analytic info of football any where publically available, and the site died despite that and great writers/contributors.
Pff stats are worth significantly less than measurable or testing numbers which are worth about as much as production. Eli dominated both those as well, he’s the most talented and athletically gifted C in the league.

When Owen Hubert replaced Willy he was getting penetration. Fayad got more pressure. Yes Willy prob being double teamed but if you focus on him on some plays, he’s not really trying even. It appears he just isn’t interested in engaging. Like neufeld against Ottawa.

“Fatigue makes cowards out of the best of us”

Willie’s always had the tendency to lope around and seem disinterested when he’s gassed out, just now at his age it happens much earlier in games.

It also appears that his top priority is almost always to get a PKD, a lot of the time at the detriment of making any sort of engagement with the lineman.

Lol same, though pre-2017ish I felt this coming from anyone who was a fan through the 80s. It’s come full circle.

Yeesh its been 5 full games for Collaros without a TD.

3 to start this season, 0fer in the Grey Cup and 0fer in the West Final.

When was the last time a bonafide starter had 5 straight full games of meaningful reps without managing a TD?

How many times has he thrown a pass that ends up inside the 5 yard line and then short-yardage or back runs it in?

Like say the Wolitarsky play last game...does it matter that Collaros didn't get the TD because the play ended at the 1 then the backup QB runs it in?

Just seems like a statistical anomaly at this point. Only other QB so far this season to start a game and not throw a TD is Bethel-Thompson last week.

That Wolitarsky play is an interesting example because with Collaros not throwing TDs the WRs are obviously not catching TDs... catching the ball behind the 1st down marker and then making it almost another 16 yards to the house is probably a mark in their ledger as opposed to the QBs.

Collaros' average depth of target was actually up a tad through 2 weeks of 2024 vs through 20 weeks in 2023 (12.3 depth yards per attempt vs 12.1) but everything else is way off... 3/14 and 0/2 vs 41/91 and 16/3. It's hard to find out this data before the league releases their pdf... glancing at the play-by-play his accuracy might actually improve at that distance because it looks like he went 1-3 (with the 1 being the 24 yarder that Demski got dinged up on)

So was it a non-contact injury for Schoen?

It's amazing that you can play a game on Friday and have absolutely no news about an injury to one of the top receivers in the league!

They’ll keep it a secret but I’m sure he’s toast for the season

was deemed not good enough over guys we kept.....so bring him back?...as opposed to finding a new guy?.....like cmon man....I'd take Lucky before any camp cut....

I’m pretty sure he was the first WR we cut in main camp

man....how we have became so bad...so fast....right across the board...I think we got lightning striking at right time with the luck of having some upper echelon talent carry us thru despite the short comings and inadequacies...I truly starting to think that unless Osh has the legit horses...he just aint that good...seems to have no clue at times, and some of his beliefs and traits are seriously flawed...and his sug arrogance needs a re-adjustment....

The @Wpg_BlueBombers add WR Ravi Alston to practice roster
He had been released during camp

… nice, a guy cut early on in training camp

Better than Lenius, but I mean- did he not have a bunch of time last year too and showed nothing?
May as well bring Kelvin McKnight back in..

I mean, they need a guy who is going to be ready to play this week likely, and on that lankier body type.  So it's not that crazy of an add.

Completely agree. They were never going to add some other FA. I was fully expecting this type of signing.
