Pete Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 no more so than any other qb that's gone in for the starter. He's actually shown a lot so far as far as I'm concerned. He wasn't the one that let Leake run for 169 yards

That includes limiting hit reps so he is at 100% and has to go 100% on each snap, as well as keeping double teams/chipping blockers off him, also a clear set of keys to play off for when to go for a pkd instead of a sack. When he lacks that crucial support we get what we’ve seen this and last year. Spurts of utter brilliant domination followed by lackadaisical indecisive floating. A high motor bull on the opposite edge who he can go back and forth with taking shallow and deep angles is a big help. Plus when one side of the pocket is consistently pushed it naturally brings about passes to his side which opens his chances for pkds with out selling out for them. A big nose tackle who mashes the centre goes a long way too, basically makes it irresponsible to try and double wj. A few things to keep in mind with wj, he’s closer to 34 than 33, which is pretty old for a rush end. Hes always been exceptionally quick, more than fast, and that is the first thing to fade with age. Also, tall/long lean guys especially on the line face a greater risk of injuries from over extension, and getting tangled etc. if you lose the bend in your legs/arms even for a second and get locked up with a guy it’s a huge hazard. If that happens to a no neck thumper built like stove they can try to muscle through it, might lose the battle but not nearly the injury risk. Getting doubled and chipped frequently as an old long tall lean pass rusher is extremely wearing. Previously we used versatile guys like biggie, stove, ba, kongbo etc to put wj in a position to excel. Two of those guys are long gone and the wheels have fallen off the other 2. We have new versatile guys stepping up like Nichols, Adams, and woods. But they are mostly trying to help prop up guys with the wheels fallen off. When they aren’t watching a clunker take their reps. 1 hour ago, rebusrankin said: Imagine if Ford was a Rider. If Wilson gets 1k, and if Castillo keeps it up they have the best shot imo. Brady might not even win west moc, mcinnis likely does at this rate. Which honestly I’d be ok with at this rate. He’s been dynamite.

Both Adams and Woods have shown they can push the line forward, and with Garbutt in WJ\s effectiveness has gone up quite a bit. The one thing that doesn't change with age is his wing span, which caused numerous problems for bc last game Piggy 1 and ddanger 2

I’m not sure garbutt will be the perfect compliment but he sure does look promising. I think a good rotation with haba wj garbutt and hubert will be good. Plus Adams with some snaps at edge. Even woods has done it. It certainly doesn’t diminish, and his instincts are as sharp as ever. In basketball some shot blockers diminish suddenly with age, but most don’t too badly. He should be effective in the pass lanes till he retires. It might be best for him if we don’t use him on the nose, and use him more as a jack in the 30 package especially. Let him get good jumps and clear angles with less time locked up on tackles.

Colin Unger Posted August 5 Report Posted August 5 Its hard to see much of a path for Woods. You need to register stats to get enough attention to receive votes and he's yet to register a sack. Its just hard to imagine a guy who average 1 tackle and 0.0 sacks per game winning any awards. Adams would have more of an opportunity especially if he continues to pick up sacks in a season where there is no runaway sacks leader. He could potentially lead the league in sacks or come close to it in the same way that Wilson could lead the league or come close to the league lead in receiving yards. If Adams ends up with 8 or 9 sacks and Wilson ends up with 6 touchdown and 1003 yards or something like that then I think there would be a lot of debate as to who deserved the ROY nomination. There's this sentiment that Wilson might just get over 1000 yards. However, despite struggling in his first 5 games to gain much traction he's actually on a pace for 1150 yards right now. Its not impossible that his last 9 games look more like his past 4 games and he ends up closer to 1300 yards or so.
