I like the alouette attitude here, compared to what the bombers did on Friday night:

TSN: " I don’t like to say the (pre-season) scores don’t matter, because when the scoreboard is on the objective is to win. But it’s also to get better every week. I feel today made us better as a football team,” Alouettes coach Jason Maas said.

“We’ll correct the things we need to, but the things we pride ourselves on is try not to take too many penalties and not turn over the ball, kind of bit us a bit tonight"

In contrast to O'Shea wishing for more penalties and turnovers.

Keon Hatcher, Dominique Rhymes and Lucky Whitehead will not be there for Vernon Adams to throw to.

Will Justin McInnis, Ayden Eberhardt and hopeful Travis Fulgham, a Philadelphia Eagles castoff, be enough to at least equal or upgrade the receiving core? Will these players even get enough balls thrown their way as the BC defence undergoes massive rebuilding.

We will see if the scouting and drafting is enough to keep the Lions in the hunt. I am very much looking forward to playing them.

Vaj went into a very established offence, this will be the first big turn over he sees. He's also 31 years old. Does he really have another gear in his career that he can reach? Guys also been hit a LOT in his career up here, and had some really ugly games just last year.

The big question in Saskatchewan is what to do when Trevor Harris, THE glass quarterback, goes down to injury again. Will Shea Patterson be the solution?

Patterson has been with the Kansas City Chiefs, B.C. Lions, Montreal Alouettes, Michigan Panthers, and New Orleans Breakers... Is he more than just a journeyman? He does seem to have some scrambling ability and that's big. But once the defences have had the chance to study him, will he be able to show starters skills?

Personally, I don't think he has the jam. Our star quarterbacks don't go this route in our league. You get two maybe three years and if you don't emerge impressively, it usually does not happen – – at best you become a career backup.

Now if Regina puts a superior team on the field then maybe he can get the job done. However, that's a big IF.

Harris...tho BLM hurts himself trying to help him up....Masoli with all the luck he's had trips over the both of them...breaking something....and Cries of "we are snake bit again" squeel outta Saskatchewan as Patterson is a poor mans version of Shiltz.....but with minimal passing skills, and Dole Bannana out in B.C shows he's more than a capable back-up and spot starter, and Fine lands somewhere else as a 3rd string, on a playoff bound team.....The Mace era starting out splendidly in the process with les wins than Dickyboi produced in last 2 seasons....hjow's that??

BC should be good, but I am not sure they should be as good as media is hyping them up to be. Although they host the GC and VA is a very big play exciting guy to watch when he is on, so it is understandable that media will try to create hype and stories around this.

As I mentioned above VA is and has always been a great athlete, but has had struggles in the mental portion of his game. Last year he for the most part didn't get too high or too low, and showed maturity and growth, it still begs to be seen if he can keep growing in that regard, or if as history has shown he falters back to his ups and downs. He also had a very good, very experienced receiving core at his disposal to use his strengths with, does he still have that with the high changeover in his starting receiving corpse? If he doesn't can, he successfully adapt to a different style of game, last year he lived and died on the "big play".

The big question is, with Stanback the Lions do have a solid ground game, will they use it, will they use it enough to not become one dimensional and if they do will that affect VA's ability to get into his rhythm on the field. again VA was at his best and was very good, when he got into a rhythm and the big plays were happening. If they choose to use the run game enough, will VA be able to be patient and turn "it" on and off within a game to allow a run game to get established and then find that big play magic only in between running plays.

I for one do not think BC will use the run game as much as even they want due to this. I predict they will start the year trying to establish a more balanced offence, but that this will come at the cost of VA doing what he does best, which is pushing the ball downfield.  I predict after a few weeks they will go back to last years one dimensional big or bust offence, to get VA back into a groove.

Didn't realize BC had signed Travis Fulgham ... That's a pretty big pickup, I remember him being in my NFL fantasy lineup briefly a couple years ago. He got a big opportunity with the Eagles when several receivers in front of him got injured and he played well. He never really got another chance though. I think he could be a sneaky big acquisition for BC.

Stanback is kind of a one dimensional player.  They will have to commit to the run.  He's pretty useless from pass sets as both a runner and receiver.

does Stanback even have that dimension anymore? It seems like he's well past the time when he was right up there with Andrew Harris as the best running RB...

also, is Stanback a good guy from a pass protection standpoint?  The RBs they had last year did not look great to me in that regard .. at least when I watched the Lions I saw VAJ improvising a lot.

100% this. Emphasis on having to commit to the run. Stanback isn't a guy who is happy or productive with 10-15 touches a game.

Thats the big question. Aging banged up rb, not what I want to bet on.

No, he's out right bad in pass pro. And his hands are sketchy too.

yup...nailed it

Loss of Pushoff Rhymes and Hatcher...who was by far their best reciever, is a lot to overcome for the VAJ...Hollins flourished moreso from those guys being in the lineup....he doesnt have that now

I look at our unit...U try and take away Lawler...One of Schoen or Demski gonna scalp you....or remove Scoen...Lawler will have a hey day....Plus both those guys as well have proven track record for us of being critical 2nd down conversion guys....and we havnt even touched on dependeable Woli also in the mix, and fact BO and Strev will be runing it down yer yapholes....wearing you down....no team in the West has 3 top end guys like that who also double as conversion guys...and a horse and a bull in the backfield on top of it

(short yardage specialist prukop is an Elk)v

obvious punchline: Jones hears "short yardage specialist" and immediately pens Prukop in as the short-yardage nose tackle.

jokes aside, I don't think this is a bad signing. a bad short yardage QB can cost you games, as Tyrell Pigrome taught the Redblacks last year....plus you keep the wear and tear off your old guy and your young thoroughbred Canuck.

I just love how Woli makes teams defend the whole field. don't miss the days when we'd have some Canadian scrub way out on the field side as a theoretical distraction.

yup...we used to employ a Canadian who essentially had no impact in any play...often was rarely even covered, and was never integral to anything we did as an offence....my how times have changed for the better

If Edm had a compatent short yardage guy lsat yr they likley would have had 2..3 more wins alone due to some of the circus stuff we saw where they just looked like they were wanting to give a game away. The 2 games vs the Riders I believe would have been wins if i am remembering the bafoonery correctly

Understand why Jones picked up Prukop, in last weekend's game BC stopped them at least twice on short yardage, one was 3 goes from the one.  He didn't use Ford or Doege for short yardage which is surprising, he went with rookie QB Malik Henry who has now been cut.  Eventually Jones will have to move Doege or Ford to the PR or try to trade one of them away. Ford would be expensive, but Doege could be a good prospect and he'd leap above Wilson immediately in experience and ability, he flashes the next Dru Brown.

might not cost us too much coin for Doege either...

It's Harris.

BLM may get hurt first but he'll say he's fine (he's not) and refuse to go on the IR.

Masoli doesn't count because he's still on the IR from a trip to the bar two years ago.

Easily Masoli he can't even take a single hit.   Next BLM and lastly Harris.
