Not sure about that. The Stamps were a mess before Huffer took over and, IIRC, he had them competitive in a couple couple of years, thanks to a draft where he picked up 2 or 3 starting Canuck O-linemen in one draft.

The stamps were killing the drafts in those days not to mention rookie recruitment. They couldn’t miss for a while.

He took over as GM in 2008 - they won the cup that year.  They finished in 2nd in 2005 & 2006 before dropping a spot in 2007.  He didn't exactly inherit a tire fire. You'd have to go back a few years earlier to the Kevin Feterik days to the last time they were a real mess.

Correlation is not causation. Flutie was a beast that could carry any team. Kelly has been a long for the ride half the time.

Gotta say it's pretty stupid for the CFL to have these late season bye weeks.

They've basically made the league irrelevant this week as NFL gets into full swing, NHL gets going, even MLB heading into World Series.

Should be no byes from October through the end.

They got two guys who played but missed on Labatte.

Yup the braintrust of the CFL is just not doing itself any favours with so many things over the last while.

Why not?  Kelly is on pace for a hall of fame career based on his early success.

Warren Moon is revered as a CFL great despite him being an actual sex pest.

He’s not on track for the hof. he’s been good, but he’s in the same tier as virtually every starting tier qb in the cfl.
6800 yards 35 tds 23 ints in 26 games. 7200 yards 32 tds 20 ints in fajardos first two years as a starter. Ricky ray had almost 8k 59 and 22. And that was splitting games with maas his first year. 2nd and 3rd year are 10k+ 60 37. Printers in less than his first 20 starts had 6700 44 and 16 with 800 rushing yards and 11 tds on the ground. Nealon Greene put up 5k 36 18 with 1600 rush yards and 6 rushing tds in 26.

Which CFL qbs in the last 5 years have put up a record like this?

Flutie also played during an era where the level of talent in the CFL was significantly lower. If it was all about yards TD's and INT's then I guess Bo Levi Mitchell is the best QB this season despite his mediocre record? Same with MBT?

I'd say a guy with a huge winning % and a Grey Cup ring in only two seasons is off to a great start and ON pace for a HOF career.  You can't deny it.     If he drops off in the next few years then yes at that point he wouldn't be on pace for a HOF career.

Record, goes to the team. What was Matt nichols record as a starter?

Fajardo has for starters. Also mbt before his edm return.

yards and tds are atleast heavily attributable to the QBs play. Wins can be, and can not be.

Who has been the best qb in the league this year? It’s all shades of crap tbh. And Kelly still isn’t the top guy.

strevy got a gc ring in two seasons too. Neither one started or played the first 90% of the gc though.

He isn’t though. If he maintains the same level of play he does now, sub elite tier he will not be on track for the hof. He’s behind Fajardo. And I don’t think he’s on track for a hof spot either.

Flutie played at a time when you had Matt Dunigan (HOF), Damon Allen (HOF), Danny McManus (HOF), Tracy Ham (HOF), Kent Austin (6000 yard passing season, 5000 yard passing season, 3 4000 yard passing seasons), Jeff Garcia (4 time West All Star QB, 4 time pro bowler in the NFL), David Archer (6000 yard passing season) and that's just QBs. Your statement that the talent was lower is foolish. Much higher caliber of QB and QB play in that era.

As for your statement that he's on pace for HOF career, wrong again. Nice record but its more about his team than Kelly. Plus its way to early to judge a player on a season and a half.

I give you a QB who in his first two years starting put up 8.689 passing yards, 61 td passes, won over 20 games in those two seasons. Not in the CFL HOF. For fun, name him.

With a 9 team league, someone has to have a bye week every week.  Agreed though that having 3 teams off at the same time should be eliminated come October.

Not sure, but the moment he was replaced with an elite QB the team won back to back Grey Cups.

Watch those old games and see just how inferior the talent was compared to the current product.  I love Matt Dunigan and will always hold him in high regards.   I watched his 700 yard game....  it was comical in how bad the D was that game.    This was an era where the difference in top talent and lower talent was an enormous gap.

Our Bombers 2024 team would absolutely **** kick that Bombers team the night he tossed for 700 yards.  The level of talent in the league these days is so much higher which is why the league has far more parity and why it is so hard for QB's to have gaudy numbers in present time.

It is similar to the NHL where a regular ham and egger would pot 50 goals easily because back in the 80's the game was so far behind then what it is currently.  It's super comical to watch games from that era and watching goalies fly around and sprawling everywhere and looking absolutely hilarious and amateur compared to what you see in present day.  It's an apples and oranges comparison trying to compare players from different eras but because talent across the board is so much higher nowdays it is far more impressive to have a 20 - 5 record in present day.

If they take away Dickenson's HC gig & kick him strictly upstairs to GM. look for them to fill the HC position from within. A reward for failure. The Stamps will be bad for a long time.

Since they won't go up against Thursday or Sunday night NFL, there are only two ways to have just one bye each week in the fall: double-header Friday/double-header Saturday, or single game Friday/triple-header Saturday. With CTV needing a 3p ET start time for its Saturday game, they would have to start a game at noon ET or have games at 7 and 10 ET on Saturday to accommodate a triple-header. I don't think either of those options would be appealing to the TV rights-holder. 10p ET starts drive away a sizeable chunk of the TV audience, and noon ET (9a PT) seems like a non-starter as well.

Yes, he is the best QB this season despite his team's mediocre record. Which QB in your estimation has played better than Mitchell?

2019 Nichols had a great record and then got hurt... and collaros split time with streveler in the playoffs and honestly the team probably doesn't get past the semi-final without streveler. Then in 2021 collaros was pretty awful in the grey cup... but happened to have good special teams and a top teir defense backing him... so the point is that the Bombers won as a team not because of collaros. In fact I've said for as long as anyone will listen that collaros being the best qb in the league the last few years is a damning indictment of the qb talent across the league. He is good, but he's not best in the league kind of good. When noodle armed morons like fajardo can be among the most consistent starters you know you have a qb talent crisis.

Win/loss and championships are and should be BIG factors in HOF. However, you gotta have the outstanding personal stats to go with it. In iso neither the win%/championships or ind stats should get you there. Must have at least a little of both. Kelly's ind stats are pretty pedestrian imo.

Collaros' best attribute in the 2021 cup was that he didn't shrink and give up after a couple of INTs. He just kept chucking it and got us back in the game. Threw us into a hole and then threw us out of it.
