Flutie might as well have been a God when it came to the CFL. Bad games simply did not exist for him. An absolute assassin on the field.

Not true. His first season in BC was bad. He kept getting pulled. After that, he was absolutely the best QB I've ever seen in person.

Like every American qb, he needed time to adjust to the CFL game. In 1990, he did throw for 2,960 yards & 16 touchdowns but had 19 interceptions. He had a 52.8% completion percentage. I wouldn't call that bad. That would be average.

Somebody has to wake up the old folks who are living in the past and thinking that the game is the same as back then.  It's embarrassing for them to live in such delusions.

It is more fun to watch old hockey and football because of the high scoring and far larger margin of blown coverage and misses.       It's just hilarious to me that people are so simple that they think that the players of yester-year could compete in todays game.

Stop embarrassing yourself,  it's sad.   Join this conversation once you watch some 1980's hockey.   You clearly have not.

So, you're younger than most of us here, big deal. You just proved that ignorance has no age barriers.

Guy has a ton of tackles because they target him. Lots of tackles = lots of receptions.

Same with Houston last year.

as a db the fancy stats ....as in lots of tackles....knockdowns etc....are due to volume tossed at him.....you are gonna get stats in that regard...but whats the completion % against him...where ae those tackles....after 1st down gained?....how often is he targeted on 2nd and long....and whats the conversion there?...those are the telling stats.....and should be what are numb in the head writers should look at and publish for their case

Why do think Nichols gets minimal recognition other than the people in the actual know,,,some media...other coaches....intelligent fans...he usually has low tackles...minimal interceptions....due to least targets in the league....but his completion percent against is likely top of the league

Whats the Sask defensive backfield rank....vs the Bombers?......you would think the MODP candidate would play on the better of the 2...no?

Thinking about the award nominees

It should be Brady for MOP, MOC

Beverette for MODP (better overall stats, D and team then Milligan)

STPOY Milligan

ROY Wilson

I agree with most of that. We’ve seen much better kick cover years than mulligan though that didn’t get the nod.
For teams, grant has just under 2000 return yards between punts and kick offs with 4tds. We also have 2 kickers with over 50 makes and 93% make rate or higher.
Griffin and Ayer’s have more sts tackles per game with less games played. Castillo has made an insane 9/13 from 50 or deeper. If he didn’t have that first game and or maybe the bad late season game he’d be a very strong candidate. At that, cadwallader has been our best teams player imo. Blocked kick, forced fumbles and tremendous cover work.
Vs Mulligan being tied for 2nd in stts.

Great points, I should have researched more before posting.

I could be wrong but I don't think a ST player other than a kicker or returner has ever won the award before and isn't likely to this season.  It will probably comes down to Janarion who certainly deserves acknowledgement for his career work, or Sean Whyte who has been outstanding in making 50 of 53 FG's this season, with the ceremony in Vancouver Whyte will probably be chosen the Belle of the Ball just for the extra media attention it will generate.

Never forget they gave this guy an award in Regina, just for showing up at the ceremony on time with his shoes on the right feet.

Thanks. I think grant especially has been hard to stomach paying attention to for us bomber fans, but this has been the best year of his career.

Correct. No cover guy has ever won it. 3 have been runners up on career years. The goat, arakgi, and beswick. All 3 put up better years in less games after multiple years of being a top kick cover guy.

Wade miller twice broke the cfl sts tackle record and never finished as a runner up.

Mike sellers as an up back routinely beat gunners and bullets down field to make tackles while dominating with his block. He pinched in a couple times as a ls, and was one of the best short yardage players in the world. He literally went to the pro bowl on the strength of these facets of his game after he left.

Baron miles never got a look despite breaking the all time blocked kick record.

If some one breaks through, they gotta do more than be in the top few with the usual number of sts tackles.

Or like you said, the green bias carry’s another guy to an award they don’t deserve.
The league should really completely overhaul the selection and award process this off season.

Another well written cfl.ca article pumping Justin Mcinnis' tires for MOP with this bullsh*t tidbit, "McInnis has put together the eighth-best receiving yards total (1,469) in CFL history"

Uhhhhh, what??

Most receiving yards, one season

Thats top 10 and were still in the 1700's.

...taking into account that 3 of of these totals were played during 16 game seasons.

Brian Kelly . . . Bomber killer.

Still after all these years brings back uneasy memories.

Then when he accepted the award he dissed his fellow OL by saying jokingly, "No qb was hurt in the writing of this speech".

McInnis had 1469 yards and 7tds

Previous WR MOPs

2002-Milt 1862 yards 23tds

2006-Greoy Simon 1856 yards 15tds

2019-Brandon Banks 1550 yards 13tds

1988-Dave Williams 1483 yards 18tds

1986-James Murphy 1746 yards 12tds

1985 Mervyen Fernandez 1727 yards 15tds

Yeah, not the same.

The td’s are a little light.

Yardage and TDs are light. Milt set the overall TD record is his MOP year. Banks led the CFL in both receiving yards and TDs in his. Williams 18 set a receiving TD record. Murphy had 116 receptions in his (still a club record). Simon and Fernandez both are just outstanding years. Also better team success than BC. Media seems determined to not give it to Brady. Of and my above research while stellar took under 10 minutes and writing about the CFL is not my job.

1318 rush yards plus 465 receiving yards for a total of 1783 yards from scrimmage and 4 TD. Against Mcinnis 1469 yards and 7 TD. It's not close. And Brady will likely stack up more yards on Saturday.

Brady carried the Bombers' offence, dragged it out of the dirt and made it somewhat respectable. Everyone knew we couldn't pass and he gained yardage even when there was nothing. He's the MOP and the MOC and it's not close. If the voters have any integrity they will make the right decision.
