Gauthier between the 3 guys rostered at middle prob Is the best option tho.

Is a better option tho wilson between Cole and Kramdi...I say certainly....and I not even a fan of Kramdi taking starter reps....in rotation sure but not the bulk

Doesn't have to be one of those 3 three though.  They could go Cole - Wilson - Kramdi

or Ayers...Wilson and Cole....even better...see what Ayers has...dont know until you try....You definately know what you have with Gauthier...limited effectiveness as an every down guy...but as solid as their is in the league for a role and certain down and distance scenarios

Could the coaches be concerned about having too many new guys in the line-up on defense?  They already have two new starters in the front 7 with Fox & Haba so maybe they don't want to add a 3rd or 4th, especially if those guys are new to the league (Ayers/Adams)?

Fox and Haba are hardly new tho...both been here since last yr, and that really is a pretty weak excuse if a guy is talented enough. You don't learn much or really get to show much in practice over the course of a yr...not in this day and age

Athleticism...ability and ability to play with speed....if you have that...you will be just fine...

But there’s really no advantage or need to start more than the minimum. Guys like demski Oliviera etc are legit stars but when you starting guys like gauthier or Thomas over Americans. It’s just silly.  Regardless of rotation

I guess my point is that Jackson was a useless body... at least the guys on the roster now aren't useless regardless of the starter/backup distinction. Guys will take meaningful reps, contribute on special teams, whatever. Jackson played but didn't do **** not even on teams.

I also think that using a NA on BA easing him back into work, with maybe Cole at S would have been a big benefit.

Certainly could be. Imo, it isn't the same impact on D as it is on O. Bunch of rookies on O throw off timing and design. On D, you can have vets support guys in their role much easier. Because our rookies would be spread across all 3 levels I think that is as good as you can ask for. Kyrie can help Ayers, Willy/jake even fox can help the DL, BA/nichols can help guys in the secondary. We would even have good splits side to side for the rookie in the secondary.

It is also possible they don't think those guys are ready just yet and are picking it up a bit slower. Or worry about the rookie wall, Injuries etc.

As long as BA is ok, rotate in the young guys on the front, and we stagger Jake/Gauthier I think the D will be good. If we get Cole, Ayers, woods, and Adams a decent number of snaps I think our D will out perform our O.

I agree with that. The problem is far from solved, but it is certainly improved. Though we did cut jackson. If walters didn't cut him, I think he'd be a DI again right now.

Exactly. He was an American that wasn’t good at any of the positions he played.

I have to give him his due....he was good at long snapping....but that as well as an American DI is a bad roster move too....It was just Man Love that had him rostered....nothing more...nothing less

To be fair, he wasn't really even an american football player. He was a rando marine that long snapped a few times. On any given day we have at least 4-5 guys who read this forum who qualify more as an american football player. Heck some of the guys drafted in this last years entry draft are more american football players than jackson. His is the greatest up jumped TCF story in history.

Mos has the most random man crushes. I was watching baumings YT channel and mos was talking about great KRs, and guys who played a full time position and did KR jobs. Who did he talk about? I immediately thought it must be pinball! maybe rocket? The newer guys like speedy B? Maybe a deep cut with marvin coleman? Nope, Chuck Winters.

Spent 5 years at Nebraska and started in his 6th at Buffalo.

If he was in the CFL Draft "talent evaluators" would need to change their shorts.

I get why they brought in Jackson. Big body, tough guy, if he could long snap, play FB, some DE, a bunch of teams packages and be a kick cover demon, that's strong value. Even for a DI. But despite a year and a full TC here, of all those things they only part he really played here was a big guy who used to be a marine.

Ok having seen the depth chart now... 100% that is MOS trolling and "starting" 10 Canadians because he can. All those guys will take reps.

Yeah for sure.  As I've said, the "starting" thing is a red herring.

All teams declare is: The game roster, the QB's, the 4 DI's (to me 2 of ours are obvious...Castillo and Mitchell, I'd guess Ayers then it's between 1 DL or Bridges) and how many Canadians on each side of the ball (7 across O and D...doesn't matter if you "start 10" this doesn't change).

2 redshirt seasons with nebraska lol, where he was rudy ruettiger. 13 career solo tackles over 4 seasons, including his time at buffalo. 3 games in his first 3 years. They gave him a scholarship and played him the last 6 games of a 3 win season. IF he put up monster testing numers and wasn't a 30 ish year old rookie maybe. He wasn't that athlete though.

Kelly right to the 6 game, hope its not that serious.

Might be worth tracking subs on the defensive front.

I suppose in the end you gotta have your 20 or 21 Canadians and honestly, our depth there is pretty good so I guess who is starting and who isn’t doesn’t matter. You can rotate guys in and I’m sure we will see that on play 2 from the D so yeah. Guess not a big deal. I’m gonna go ahead and divert that decision to the dudes who get paid to do it. In the end it’s probably not just an O’Shea decision. It’s a younger and buck decision also. I’m sure O’Shea listens to what they say. If JY says i don’t think this guy should be on the roster. Osh would prob not dress him. That’s how dissension in the coaches start. Don’t think that’s happened here. Not sure why it would now.  Can blame O’Shea but he has given his coordinators free rein over the years now.

For sure. We saw this the past 3 years already. MOS declares a NAT a starter...we all scream bloody murder and that NAT gets 10% of the reps.

I look at the roster and don't really see anyone who is complete dead weight so that's an improvement from last season.

Yea, not even much dead weight on the PR. We are sure looking deep this year.

Idk when that was the case. If any thing we haven't rotated well the last couple of years. When ba has been out we haven't gone to imp S very often, same with jake coming off for an imp. Our DI useage has not given us the flexibility the last couple of years to do that. Even our general roster the last two years hasn't had the versatility to have that kind of flex.

You know I thought schmekel was strong in pre season. Wouldn’t mind giving him more reps. I think our DL is still quite strong. Even with Garbutt injured.

With luck, Schmekle will play more reps than jake (though probable closer to even at best) where their combined reps are about as much as the 2nd imp DT. He has certainly earned some snaps this year.

LB depth not great tho.
DL fine. Dbs fine. Including safety.

I’m not too worried about lber depth actually with Cole and Ayer’s as back ups. I think Kamdi could even play wil in a pinch.

My concern roster wise is really the edge. If wj or habba go down we are going to have big guys playing full time out of position. Adams is a monster I hope his wind is up to par now. But it might not be up to that. End can involve a whole lot more running that is necessary. His range is a bonus at dt, a bit one. But it’s not optional as a full time de.

cole gives us a ton of versatility. Wish Kelly was healthy but with him and a real cover db back up, another wil, and dts we are in a good spot. If we use guys well. My hopes rest on the shoulders of JY

We've seen Jake listed as a starter many, many times over the past several years and then take limited snaps.

I think in a pinch Adams would be just fine at end. It will be nice to get Garbutt back tho.
