Is what I read true about Laine getting benched?   I have not followed the NHL closely this year,  but I thought he was having a "great season" in Montreal?

10 games? Not enough.

This is why it's not enough. Here's the cheap shotter's 'explanation' (taken from the Yardbarker):

"Hartman contends that he is attempting to use his hand to regain his balance using Stutzle as support and that their fall to the ice is accidental," the league added.

The same guy that contended his extremely dangerous hit on Ehlers was 'clean'.

As a Redditt poster posted eloquently about Hartman:

That's such a rat f'ng thing to do... greasy as fk.

I concur.

Yup.  Dude never thinks he does anything wrong.  As I said before, he’s a POS.

It's going to be interesting to see what Chevy does with the Ehlers situation, especially with where the Jets find themselves this season.

It would be insane to me that one of the options is him walking away as a UFA getting nothing in return other than what he has contributed to the Winnipeg Jets over the last seven years.

We would get a late 1st and meh prospect. Ehlers worth more to jets as own rental if need be.  And the teams trading for the soon to be UFA Ehlers would be playoff teams or teams we could play when **** matters in the playoffs anyways so own rental makes sense.

I agree, or do we sign him long term with his history of injuries and so-so play in the playoffs? I guess this is why Chevy makes the big bucks.

Could have just asked the fans 😄

Who cares. And honestly the trip from the airport to the arena is **** but who cares. These players being paid millions of dollars. Boo ******* hoo. No move clauses or no trade clauses is good for Winnipeg cuz then you don’t get the ppl who care about things other than hockey which is what they getting paid for. Bad food? Dudes a moron. Winnipeg has some of the best restaurants in North America.

It's just ignorance.... If you've never lived it, then you can't possibly know how great it is. There is no other place I'd rather live right now.

Similar to the Bomber organization, winning, respectability, being a first class organization will help (not guarantee) draw talented hockey players who view compensation/location as not the only criteria in where they believe is best suited for their and their family needs to ply their craft. At the eod tho lots and lots and lots of money can drown everything else out and with the rise in the salary cap, small market teams like our Jets might want to invest even more in their scouting departments.

A little ignorant to think that others would want to live in Winnipeg just because you have rose colored tinted glasses of your memories of Winnipeg.

Winnipeg attracts refugees, immigrants,  and low to middle class income folks who want to raise families in a place that is affordable.   Educated young adults leave Winnipeg in droves so this isn't exactly a place that a 20 something year old millionaire would want to live.  It is freezing cold during  hockey season,  night life is extremely poor,  downtown is a complete desolate zombie wasteland,  their is nothing to do or nowhere to go in Winter.   Their isn't a conspiracy on why players don't want to go to Winnipeg.  It's a complete $hithole.

I don't blame the players,  would you rather play in Vegas where you have thousands of options and nice weather or do you want to go to Winnipeg where you can't walk outside at night (weather/extreme crime) and visit Earls for the 100th time since downtown has nothing else to offer.

It will always be a challenge to attract players ,  they just have to pick and choose ones that want that docile stay inside all of the time life.

Why do you compare Winnipeg to Vegas and not St. Paul or Edmonton or buffalo or I mean what’s next comparing us to New York? We aren’t Vegas. Hell most cities in the world never mind nhl cities aren’t  like Vegas. Compare us to Chicago or St. Louis St. Paul Detroit Edmonton Calgary even.

This is just an absolutely wild take. Not even sure where to begin.

I mean, first off, I live part time during the year in Fort Garry, which I absolutely adore. So no "rose coloured memories" required. And you can say what you want about the city, proper, but even living just outside the city in Oak Bluff (or similar) is fabulous for the rich athletes (Buff and Doug Brown, just to name a couple...) that can afford it.

Then this take about having too many "undesirables" is just gross to even say out loud.

Now, as far as comparing Winnipeg to other markets... Winnipeg is probably most similar to Edmonton, which used to be way up there on these types of lists. Now, Edmonton is nowhere to be found. They built up the organization to the point where players actively want to be there (Connor and Leon help), and there's no reason the Jets can't do likewise.

tl/Dr - Negative impressions of the city are ignorance on the part of young players who just don't know b cause they haven't really experienced it.

Their is nothing to experience though that is the problem.

It's not gross its' the truth.  EVERYONE who lives in Winnipeg is well aware of how gross downtown is and after 5:00 pm the place is a ghost town.   It was a ghost town pre-COVID... now post COVID it's even more so.   Even during the day it's very quiet as many people are working from home now,  lots of businesses have closed and the amount of "for lease" signs on the main strip is staggering.     Talk to anyone who has to use a bus and travel to downtown during off hours and you will get smacked in the face with the reality of the situation.

The issue has spread and even going to the Forks these days is dangerous.  See numerous stabbings in broad daylight and a few shootings to boot.   The place is a crap hole and the undesirables isn't only located in a "ghetto",  it's infected the full downtown area and more.

TLDR:  The numbers do not lie... MANY years in a row hockey players do not want to move here.  It's because the city is a dump and has nothing to offer young wealthy people.   I'm sure if Regina had a team they would be neck and neck with us on being last on the list.     To say the players are ignorant is stupid,  many players are Canadian and are well aware of what Winnipeg is like.

Your response here was wayyyy too kind especially with this person's mimicking Trump speak (ie sh*thole).

I was writing something out way more direct but deleted it. All I'll say here is go cheer for another team then, I hear the Golden Knights regularly take on new fans, transient as they are.

But Vegas is an option so why would I exclude it?   I did say Buffalo is a complete dump,  however it is warmer and is closer to more desirable destinations.      I'd say Edmonton would be the only place that may be inferior to Winnipeg,  I have not been in many years but since my last visit it has grown consdierably and is a much larger city then Winnipeg so maybe it has more options?    Places like Chicago and Minnesota are significantly better,   while they do have really bad areas,  they have equally as many beautiful areas with plenty to do.

We are going to Chicago again this upcoming summer and I have to trim out many destinations for our family to go because the amount of options of fun things to do is staggering.

What does Trump have to do with anything?   Describe Winnipeg downtown then in your own words?

Why would I cheer for Vegas,  I'm pointing out that young people dont' want to play hockey in Winnipeg.  The NUMBERS back that up,  give me a reason why they aren't playing here if it's not for the city being a dump.   Truth hurts.

FFs, what are you, twelve? Truth hurts neener neener neener. Jeebus, I thought I was the toddler around here.

I don't care who you cheer for but it would be nice if it wasn't the Jets/Bombers, I'm not really wanting to be clumped in your group in how you describe the Peg.

I describe it accurately,   if I am incorrect in any of my statements please point it out.      The original post was showing that Winnipeg is the least desirable place for NHL'ers wanting to be traded.   Explain why that is?    Saying all players are ignorant is not a real answer as each of these players have visited the city multiple times and many of the players are Canadian and are aware of Winnipeg.

A toddler would be a person closing their eyes and covering their ears because they don't like hearing the truth.

I concur.

And now he's appealing. In an appropriate scenario the judgment would be:

Appealed denied. Suspension increased to 20 games. Please appeal again and see what happens.
