Honestly I hope that anthems before games go away... Just get to the game.

Anthems at tournaments make sense. Anthems before every nhl games don’t.

To shed my toddler competitive hat for a sec, imho sport is ultimately meant to help unify us and drown out the absurdness that is bombarding and stressing us all out.

Anthems are required at tournaments cuz really it’s all about standing there singing along. That’s a big deal at olympics and 4 nation style tournaments. The nhl tho, i mean let’s look at our jets. 
 

we got Canadian players. We got American players. We got a Dane. We got some Swedes and a Finn or 2 and sometimes a Russian. Playing 2 anthems don’t make sense. 
 

the booing of the cdn anthem was stupid. Boston is Kamala ville so really, why did they boo? Cuz we did right but Canadians had a legit reason to boo. What’s the USAs excuse. Cuz we boo’d them? That’s weak.

Many (not all) Americans are very simple folks.   I saw a video from the game where someone was holding a sign saying that Canada will welcome the States as the 11th province and that "triggered" some Americans into wanting to get into a fight.  Yet the President and more recently the  press secretary continue to "joke" about Canada being a new State and for those same simple folks they find nothing wrong with that same message coming from their side.

I'm neutral on playing or not playing the anthem before games, but I always thought it had nothing to do with the players specifically but has to do with the country the team is located ergo the residents of said country where the team is located.

I like the Olympics and IIHF handling of the anthems.  The winning team anthem is played at the end of the game.

In general I think the anthems at sporting events like NBA/NHL/CFL/NFL etc.  are dumb.  Don't get me wrong, I love belting out O Canada, but like others have mentioned, the teams are comprised of players from multiple nations.   I think they should seriously consider removing them.

Did they play god save the king in the nfl when they played in London ? I dunno. I agree tho.

It would have been outstanding if they did while carrying King Charles out to centre field with servants in tow feeding him grapes and shielding him from the sun.
