Run the ball or try to move the sticks, no need to be that aggressive there for Hamilton. As frustrating as O'Shea is for always taking the points and always running the boring less aggressive clock management late in games with the lead... Other coaches around the league look pretty emotional these days for some of their un-Oshea-like decisions. Not only this game but the riders coached themselves out of a win. Instead of taking a sack on the 1 you run the ball twice and there's likely no time on the clock when Toronto returns the ball and they likely aren't quite in field goal range either. Dinwiddie also looked bad for not taking more field goals. Looked like an offensive head coach who was more frustrated with his offence then he was trying to win a game. ddanger 1
blue85gold Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 Just watched the game last night. Offense was rolling pretty good until all the injuries. Losing the ability to run the extra protection sets really slowed the O down. How many games have we had this year with multiple injuries at one position in a game? I can think of a few with receivers, DBs, D-Line, O-Line. In addition to the Randolph understandably having a tough game a LT, Kolo was getting bowled into Zach over and over again.

Kolo seems to need the support of Randolph at guard to play at an acceptable level. I hope if Bryant can't go that we start Vanterpool at LT and Randolph back to guard. I wonder if we end up brining in a Canadian offensive lineman this week who can get ready to backup and be on the double TE formation? Or do we convert someone like Schmekel, Davis, or Sampson??
Colin Unger Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 Also.. is it time to bring back Chris Smith onto the roster? With Brady being banged up again there's the risk of him leaving the game and we need more than just Johnny O... Whitehead could replace JJ and Smith could replace Whitehead in the return game and backup at runningback. I don't actually think Whitehead is a wise returner anyways. He doesn't dart in and try and grab balls (😇) which would obviously lead to a no yards call whether he catches it or not. Instead letting them bounce and losing the team an easy 20 yards. With all his years experience he also screwed up when returning that missed field goal out of the endzone which really put us in a situation where we needed a unlikely drive to win when we could have been in a position to just pick up 30 yards for the win.

That makes sense to me. Hopefully Bryant is just fully recovered and good to go. If we need someone else to come in an be another TE, my vote is Devin Adams. Guy is a beast. Doesn't need to be a Cdn since they take out an American receiver usually when they run that set. ddanger, Colin Unger, Piggy 1 and 1 other 3 1

JuranBoldenRules Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 Whitehead is kind of like when we brought back Albert Johnson III in 2006. His brain knows what to do but he doesn't have the wheels or the extra gears anymore. I think between him and coaches they view the missed FG's as an opportunity for a big play but he just doesn't have that speed to explode off that first cut that you need to beat the angle even on the heavier cover team. We had been battled for field position for several drives already and finally had a chance to get it back and the point was highly likely to be irrelevant.

I saw on Twitter Lucky said he would have conceded the point of the coaches directed him to. 14 minutes ago, JuranBoldenRules said: Whitehead is kind of like when we brought back Albert Johnson III in 2006. No one would have questioned the decision to take it out if he made a big play. The O was going no where so you gotta take chances to swing a big play when you can. Lucky wasn't fielding punts in the air as much last game which to me is when the bigger concern than not breaking the big one. Gotta get those in the air and try and draw no yards. 1 minute ago, Colin Unger said: Its not something i could understand if true. The battle for several drives was because the offense couldn't get a first down. I doubt the coaches said "don't give up the point" but they didn't say "give up the point". Colin Unger 1
Colin Unger Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 It's really surprising to me that we wouldn't have directed him to give up the point there. If so then that's on coaching and not Whitehead. TBURGESS 1

This game was another example, we get the ball with2 minutes and change, and up they get, determined to beat the traffic. Are they really fans?? I'll admit, I wasn't confident we were going to drive down and score on the last drive... but I sure as hell stayed in my seat til the end (at which point, a seat was no longer required) ddanger and Colin Unger 2

Colin Unger Posted August 26 Report Posted August 26 By the time we were on the 20 yard line i looked back at my family and all members were on the edge of their seats like they haven't been all year. Wanna-B-Fanboy and Tracker 1 1
Colin Unger Posted August 27 Report Posted August 27 I don't disagree that the issue for a while had been an inability to get a single first down. But sometimes i think that can be a bit of a mental thing when you need 10 first down it can be hard to get 1. Getting good field position can provide a mental boost that helps an offence out of a rut.
