oh baby....and 3 active LB's....Griffin...and Nichols..Bonds..Ford locking things down...gimme that on a plate and soak it up with a biscuit!

Yeah, that’d bring soo much athleticism and versatility to our front it’d be sick.

not sure that Cole is a great cover guy at safety, but I do like the idea of Griffin in at that spot. He's got good speed and football sense as well as a good tackler. would really make our secondary even more formidable

I think people kind of forget where Cole came from.

He was a 4 star recruit and the no1 player out of Michigan as a wr. He went to Michigan but only lasted a few games.
He went to powerhouse juco school EMCC, where he converted to db. At first he was playing corner/nickel. But he moved to a hybrid sam/S like what we do here. That play got him drafted as a S by the Vikings. Spent two years n change down south with 3 teams as a S.
the big thing he had to polish on getting here was coverage for sure, but he doesn’t need to be dropping back directly covering a guy now either. Hes improved a good bit this year and was solid in sam reps last year and S reps in ps this year.

In our system the S isn’t the deepest defender, it’s a medium to deep box guy watching the seams and flowing to the play. Which suits him extremely well.
Generally for us our CB is the deepest guys, along with the half. Depending on field or boundary side, and field depth they might squeeze the side line more or less.
Sam, wil, and S on pass cover plays play similar roles. Two walls and a ceiling basically, playing a triangle above the tackle box. The wil and sam wall off vertically while the S does it horizontally.
With griffin and nichols in, the S has the easiest job.

Id say Cole is comparable to Kramdi in coverage, but kramdi has never had to adjust to the Canadian game and is sharp. Cole is more instinctual. If you sit him 20-25 yards down field in the middle and tell him to read the qb (which he’s done very well at wil) then come up and make plays on the play, he will excel. I think that would actually be easier for him than playing wil.

Actually Cole would excel there....he has real good speed like top 10-15 guys on team and he is probably our best sideline to sideline guy and knows his pursuit angles really well....plus one of our better tacklers, and can lay the wood too....His rangy physique would be perfect there and for what we do...or were doing (trying) to with BA...Cole would have been lights out but he was behind the "tenured-vet...coach's fav....guy's a starter until his legs fall off" ball so didnt get a sniff

yup....he closes like a missile...and knows how to take the right route to do it...and hits hard...AND wraps up and takes the guy down....none of this flailing around looking lost and out manouvered like we have seen too much of

Appreciate the background on Cole, but I still feel Griffen is better able to read offences and support other dbs.

100%. Griffin is a beast. Ideally, I’d keep him on no matter what. He’s better than holm.
I think Cole at S would be a great package especially on first down. Having Cole, ayers and jones all on the field with kramdi  on first would be big for run fits.

I'd say Griffin has been in our top 4..5 defensive players all yr...

Yep totally. Neck and neck with bonds. Bonds had one bad Game and has dropped a couple picks. Griffin hasn’t blinked at all. Nichols, ford, griffin, woods, then bonds for me.
