Unless they think his range on pass pro can be improved he’s really a 1 down backer. Possibly, but he stepped in and played WIL in front of Ayers and Cole before moving to MLB, so I think he does have more versatility than you suggest.

He did, but he was only playing running downs as we subbed him off for the dime db in passing plays at wil. Swapping wil to mac on running plays just changes which A gap you are aligned in.
17to85 Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 I wouldn't be married to Jones at linebacker... he did a nice job and illustrated how far bighill has fallen but I think you can do better there but if not Jones can be solid. rebusrankin, TBURGESS, BigBlueFanatic and 3 others 1 5

Reality is they need to find cheap replacements in a number of positions to compensate for overspending on positions like receiver, RB and increasingly DB. It's very likely Jones or some other new-no-name is in that spot next season, they won't spend biggish $$ on an established MLB in FA as long as Bighill is still in house.

I'm not saying spend big... but nothing stopping them from finding a young guy who can play the position.

There are a million LBs kicking around down south. That said, if we could somehow spend big on someone like Wynton McManis I wouldn't be opposed to that. He was the highest paid LB in the league last year and after his performance in GC, I don't see that changing. He was just over 200k this season but if we move on from Biggie's 165k we might be able to make a pitch.
Booch Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 1 hour ago, Fatty Liver said: Tony Jones is a FA, they'll likely sign him for 2 years at a little over $100k, Kyrie range, Biggie can give it another go, but they'll have Jones locked in and loaded ready to go if he falters. 57 minutes ago, bigg jay said: Jones had some good games in the season but didn't have a great GC from what I saw so I hope they have a full open competition or spend some cash on good FA (not sure who'd be available though). We need to do better...Jones be a good rotational DA guy...
JohnnyAbonny Posted November 20 Report Posted November 20 At this point I’d rather have a high priced MLB than a second high priced receiver at or over 30 years old. Just scour down south and find a guy like Shamar Bridges to replace either Dalton or Kenny. Though I get it’s not that simple, I’m sure it’s easier to find a 6”3 guy who can jump and catch than it is to find a rookie all-star MLB. It’s not like we run a crazy complicated route tree. We won grey cups with top-end talent on defence and the o-line, and a stud RB. The club needs to get back to that line of roster imo This paying 4 skill players on offence reeks of the early 2000s, where it was always close but just not good enough to bring home the prize. bigg jay and BigBlueFanatic 2

We need to spend money & rebuild the defense. Especially along the Front 7. We need two impactful Defensive Tackles who are not only run stoppers but can pressure from the interior of the line. A new MLB. And we have to sign Ford. A priority!!! Piggy 1 and JohnnyAbonny 1 1

Agreed - the Argos didn't beat us on the strength of their offense. Their defense has been their backbone for a while even after losing some of their bigger names to FA. I would like to see us get back to that. blue85gold and JohnnyAbonny 1 1

Our D played well enough to win if the O came to play but didn't take over the game like the Argo's D did. JohnnyAbonny 1

Even though there may be a million LB’s kicking around down south, translating one of them into being a good/great CFL middle linebacker is where our scouts make their salary states captain obvious.

He had that one moment where he slipped up...but in the end he's teammates bailed him out. His brittleness is the concern. JohnnyAbonny and Bigblue204 2
