I’ve heard it mentioned here and there, but does anyone else think our long snapping maybe had something to do with some of the goofier looking punts and missed FG’s?
I know the Godly Wind winning FG actually had a bad snap that was brought back in by the holder

Maybe time to move past Benson?

They have the guy from Laval stashed.

Probably let him do it for the next 3 years on his rookie deal.

Think we have to realize that a 15-20 years ago 32 yards net was the goal of any punt team as an average.  Now the entire league is basically at 37 yards net.  The kicking game has evolved a lot.  And it's not just about hammering the ball.  This mythical "kick out of trouble" stuff is bunk in this code and not even really possible anymore with the out of bounds rules.  Teams used to concede the safety basically any time they were scrimmaging inside their own 15.  Now they kick more hoping to give up 3 and not 5-9 (safety and another score).

Yeah lose points with more opportunity potentially, but for Paredes quite likely he maintains the make % on 20 more kicks and his average distance is basically the same as Castillo.

Castillo definitely cashed in on those 60 yarders in the xP calculation.

It's a nice luxury to have a guy who can make those kicks.  But if I had to pick a guy to make a 45 yarder to win the game it wouldn't be Castillo.

League average isn’t a measuring stick unless you missed the play offs though.

You’re also glossing over the fact that the punting/kicking positions have seen the biggest increase in terms of talent of any position in football over that time.

Our net average on the cfl site has us middle of the pack at 36.1

You certainly aren’t going to frequently punt your way out of trouble. A lot more teams are using 2 guys who can get back and split the field.
The biggest concern I have with the punter is his frequency to punt us into trouble.

Maybe not his best year but I don’t think he was a big problem. I do think he’s gonna retire though, and Laroux likely takes over.
Sheehan had some brutally slow releases this year sporadically. Like two steps worth of time extra.

Leroux? Laroux? Good ass snapper either way.

No issues with Castillo,  I never was worried that he couldn't make a kick.

The punter on the other hand can go,   an easy position that we should have a competition to see if we can find a guy who at least has the ability to make a huge kick.  Numerous times last year we played against teams that had a guy who could boom it deep when needed which instantly flipped 15 - 25 yards for the other team.

thats my main issue.....he has shown that he has no ability to do that....I cant recall any normal punt he has attempted that has travelled any significant distance....plus he is so slow at getting it off...I am truly shocked more haven't been blocked

The fact he's not even willing to give a bullshit answer, like we'll review all aspects is sad.  Not unexpected but still sad.

MOS asked if, in hindsight, he would again keep Collaros in the GC game despite the fact he was told that his QB could not throw.

Q: "Would you still send him out there?"

A: "Yeah. Absolutely. When you asked me that, it's not even something I really thought  about."

Wow. Little self-reflective ability. Does MOS really understand his role as HC? This is the point where stupidity appears to have overtaken stubbornness. The man requires active supervision.

Who knows what he really thinks. He’s not going to publically throw his coach under the bus. Whether or not there’s private discussions who knows, if O’Shea said he wasn’t happy with Bucks play calling the same people would be mad he was blaming Buck.

bringing up errors and how we can/could be better....and what was a mistake isnt throwing anyone under bus....it's being accountable and showing you have seen the issues and what needs to be cleaned up....correct me if I am wrong....and also as a professional coach/athlete thats also what you signed up for....being scrutinized.....comes with the job....obviously he has little clue and no intent on changing much....Osh way of doing tbhings and the secrecy and veiled answrs isn't a confidence inspiring method...considering whats transpired

MOS sticks to his guys, like many have said, to a fault. Whether it be his coaches, or his players.

He seems to think there was little to nothing wrong with the Grey Cup gameplan, not ideal.

further confirms in many instances we have won games in spite of what he does....not strictly based on because of what he does....people cn keep denying it tho

I wasn't sure before but this clinches it. MOS does not understand the role of HC. He's happy, for the most part, to have the inmates run the asylum. But the coach needs to show leadership and make decisions. Even his QB reflected on the situation - would he help or hinder the team by returning to the game unable to throw? He asks the coach - almost hoping that he could be relieved of the responsiblity. Instead of stepping up and making the decision to sit the injured player - he kicks it back to Zach who reluctantly goes back in ... And then, not even reflecting on it .. wow.

Honestly with how defensive the team has been  about the whole collaros thing i read that as they know... but oshea will never give in to the media and give them a straight answer. Just not his MO.

so....maybe thats just him in regards to everything....his makeup.....to the team....management above him?....his fatal flaw....Not answering questions to media....or even reflecting on doing anything different is an answer by a guy with no answers to be honest...one whom thinks he's either right all the time...and or it's his way or the highway......well maybe that highway is a good option...

But he gave a straight answer. Said he didn't even think twice about it.

Makes you wonder though. Player: "Coach, I broke my leg." MOS: "Do you think you can still play on the other one?" Player: "Maybe." MOS: "Great! In you go ..."

basically lay it on the player to decide....guilt him almost.....to make a decision thats not his....or should be to make.... what player is gonna wanna bow out...even when they know they are less than optimal.....

He will never throw anyone under the bus... But it's funny to me that everyone wants a public flogging. This is always what you're going to get and the players and coaches love him for it.

Man...thats hard to watch....and even defend...is he just delusional....or plain dumb?

Yeah....no question he goes in...He's the best?....really?.....performance of late seems to say otherwise...3 yrs ago ZC maybe the best

And the inner battle...Hey coach....shouldn't all your guys have that.....and if not...maybe find some that do?

3 straight int's...looking at that now...maybe second guess...Well no....One was a good play by defence.....ummm...no it was an under throw

One the ball slipped out of his hand....thats the reason for the INT....hmmmm...he couldn't grip the ball....maybe that should have been reason enough not to put him in...and especially when that happened pull him?....like wtf???

keep believing that tho....further from the truth.... and Answering questions on key mistakes....is not a flogging

I bet ZC just loving Osh right now for making him look like a stooge too....he may not say it publically....but thats all you as a fan gonna hear

I don’t think anyone wants or expects Coach to throw players or coaches under the bus, but some accountability would be nice.  Some realization that mistakes were made.  Sometimes you need to save a player from himself, because of course they’re going to want to go back into the game…. It’s how they’re wired.  But the coach needs to decide whether it helps or hinders the team.

He sure won’t.
I don’t want a flogging. I want meaningful change. On the roster, it’s management, and at oc.

Certainly seems the locker room is more of an issue than any point prior in mos career. I do not believe that the majority of the play feel that way. You think any dl other than maybe Willy and Thomas love him? Half those guys have spent more time in his dog house than on the ar. None of them saw the gc wins. Same with the lbers. I bet the dbs are more loyal to Jy.

He’s hands off in the locker room, and lets the cos run their units. Newer guys aren’t gonna have that attachment to him.

Even with the attachment vets might have, it hasn’t kept guys here in free agency or brought them back from the nfl. Kongbo Hansen grant Bailey, lawler, stove, darby, desjarlais, couture, hardrick, etc. lots of guys have left that spent a lot of time under mos. We’ve lost more in free agency since 19 than we’ve gained.

Players like mos, and most of them like him as much as they do because he doesn’t regulate them. But the weight of that affection is measured in Pennies and milligrams.

He and the mafia doesn’t have to say more than they’ve said.  Be nice if they admitted the mistakes. But what’s really important is that they do more than they’ve done to fix these issues.

On the coaches show, he was asked why Brady didn’t see more runs.
He answered that a lot of the potential running plays were Sally’s (RPO) and in that case it’s the QB’s call.
I noticed this during the game, specifically when they were at the Toronto 15 after Willie’s pick. The tackle box was wide open and Wilson still pulled the ball to almost throw a pick. Brady could have walked to at least the 5.
