Given O'Shea's personality, I cannot see him willingly parting with his favoured but inadequate players. If he is ordered to do so, he may well, like Ahab lashed to Moby ****, go down with them, and that would not be a bad thing. If he is ordered to make those cuts and somehow chooses to stay as head coach, I would question how well he would function after that diminishing.

I really like bucks chances in bc. They want an offensive leadership change, his time with ringmaiden here, his time in bc previously, plus filling the hc spot will leave it too hard to attract a good oc. Going with an established hc may hurt their ability to retain Phillips.
mueller is too green still, I think the next closest pick might be lapo.
But bucks good years with zach, and browns development will give him the inside track imo.

I would have no issues bringing back Lapo if Buck bolts to B.C.  listen I’m excited what he would be able to do to get Oliveria the football. And in time in Winnipeg he had Nichols as his QB and Darvin Adam’s as our best receiver. He got the most out of the offense with what he had. I liked how he got people included in the offense. People say he’s conservative but for most of his time here look what he has to work with. His play calling in the 2019 playoffs was a big part of why we ended up winning the cup that year.

If we lose Buck, I do wonder who steps up? Also hopefully he doesn't try to poach JY.

Don’t think he’d get Jy, idk if they’d get permission either as they couldn’t offer a clear upgrade job. They’ll likely keep Phillips imo.

Externally, none bomber types.
I hope not myksimick but could be.
Travis Moore doesn’t get a lot of talk but he’s gonna get a look at some point. Ott could make some drastic changes he could be available at a lateral job, as could Condell. But I think Moore as a 2 man oc could work.
If jarious Jackson is out in Edmonton, and I think he will be, he could be a target.

External ex bombers.
Markus Howell could get a look, lapo could come back, khari could be an oc pass game coach or qb coach candidate

Internally.

I think Marty Costello will be a real contender. He’s had experience as a run game co ordinator and oc at lower levels. He’s a hot commodity as an ol coach and this is our best chance to keep him locked up. Pair him with a good qb coach to be a pass game coordinator and qb coach.
Bourgoins could get some consideration, or even as a pass game coach. I wouldn’t be a big fan of that though, I think we need some out side fresh blood in the offence.

He had a lot of the pieces on offence, the limiting factors were him and nichols.

Hes a great offensive mind, and a great coach of players. He gets him self in trouble over thinking play calling trying to win tri level chess matches with people playing checkers.  But, I do think he comes back stronger each time he returns to coaching.

I hope we integrate an offensive quality control guy....or like u said a game day passing/playcall co-ord to work alongside the OC

I also wouldnt be too quick to say no to LAPO.....as he seems like a guy who does like/want to evolve and seems to have the mindset to use what you have....and to its best\

Stick him to just the task of the offence....with a right hand man with him...I see no issues with that at all really....sometimes old can be new....

I find lapo to be then opposite.... he wants guys who fit what he does rather than tailoring to what he has.

No evidence that those players have diminished salaries or roles next year based on the past.

No evidence that they won't based on the past. We have moved on from many very popular players over the MOS years. We put Harris, Nichols, Adams etc.  out to pasture as an example. All huge fan favorites, all supposed MOS guys. People say that MOS will bring these guys back, but history says otherwise.

2019 says otherwise.  ZC brought a more effective downfield passing game with him, which immediately opened up the running game.

Just wondering.. if buck goes what about making Zac the offensive coordinator. He gets a chance to become a coach right away, (and we have an emergency backup)

The we go after the qb of our choice. I know it would be a substantial one yr paycut but it could certainly give his future a big headstart.

100%. The offence needs what JY has had with hall. Personally, a two team that wraps up qb coach, oc, and pass game co/qc and involves a developmental guy with a more seasoned guy is the best move.
I think lapo would be a fine choice if they got the right guy to work with him. Maybe even have Marty Costello be the run game co under lapo and bring in a qb coach as well. That’d help us keep Marty and maybe keep lapo from the empty back, no run in the red zone stuff.

I’m not sure if that’s the case, or if he was just forced into a box with a lot of the same kinds of players in his first and third go around here.

too much money to be an emergency back up. Coaching officially and playing is probably not gonna fly with the coaching and salary cap or with the pa.
He could be in a role like the goat did previously, but I don’t think zach would want that. To sit on the ir and in the room coaching. Usually guys like him need a gap of time to adjust to post playing life before coaching.

The other option would be that if we keep zach we let him call the offense like in the khari and older days. I am a fan of letting qbs make some calls and run the hurry up alone. But idk if zach is the right guy for that. It’d probably be all Hail Mary plays lol.

As an example of what is possible with LaPolice, Paul Maurice was fired several times, but got smarter with each coaching experience until he got to the Florida Panthers when it all came together.

Everyone starts that way with lapo, streveler did too, and Nichols, but eventually is all goes back to check downs. More time qbs spend with lapo the worse they get

Thats why he gets a dedicated QB/Coach quality control guy...then he doesnt get the chance to just have carte blanche...input...but not sole say...win win!!! lol

Nichols checked down because he couldn't throw the ball with any velocity.      The more LaPo had with Strev it ended up being ridiculous trick plays...  when LaPo stuck with the basics it worked.

I'm in favour of trying someone new...  we don't need some kind of mad scientist of an OC to figure out that handing the ball off to Brady = 5+ yards on average.     Maybe we need more creativity in getting Demski involved with the short passes since that seemed to have disappeared last season.   Also Augustine still averaged 5.0 yards per carry yet again.. why not give him a few carries to help lighten the load on Brady.

I feel like we move on from Augustine this off season. MCI takes that role and the club saves some $.

I thought we'd have moved on from Augustine last season but here we are. Guy has remarkable longevity for not really doing anything other than checking off the "backup canadian rb" box.

And a roster spot that can be used elsewhere. Especially with feltmate as well. Di who is a rb/wr and kr would be ideal.
