Jones looked really good at times this year. This is a solid signing and a 2 year pact says they have high hopes for him...

at very worst he is the perfect DA linebacker who can fill in at 2 spots...plays teams.....He has shown he is a capable starter...with some limitations but would kill it as a situational down backer

Best case scenario (that’s realistic) is we rotate guys up the middle like we used to on the dl. Heavy mix of ayers, Cole, and jones in different packages and situations.

We need another prime Kyrie and from first looks at Ayer's he looks like he can be that guy but brings more a whallop

It didn’t happen with strev and lapo, and zach has been forced to run check downs and screen based offences. Zach will take his shots, but I don’t think that will be a corner stone for us for certain. New oc can change a lot.
At zachs best, he wasn’t chucking over the shoulder ropes to guys streaking down field. He was dissecting Ds with seam busters and deep outs 20 yards down field. That, is what should be a corner stone of our offence with zach at the helm.

we didn’t adjust with personnel changes prior though, and we had the WRs to run it out earlier.

Zach played a part in it, but the shift we saw to buck the especially in the final year was drastic. Hardly any thing remained from the lapo era.

we have been known to hand out surprising over pays to guys taking starters jobs or who we hope would. As recently as last year we gave what 300k+ combined to Kramdi and Lawson. We paid rose bank well after his down turn. We been handing starters money to Augustine. Meanwhile we low balled grant twice.
We are a bit unpredictable with paying our own guys.

I hope this means biggie/kyrie are done here. I also hope it was a reasonable deal. Further more, I hope jones takes a long hard look at film and does a better job getting back to his spots in pass plays. Or has his snaps limited in those situations.

Once Buck was the OC and Collaros was the QB our O changed. For sure. I'm not convinced we will see a lot of change with the new OC due to Collaros' style of play. Ideally we use Brady a bit more in passing situations (yes I'm talking check downs lol) but outside of that, I still think we will see a lot of those 20 yarders you were talking about. Which has been the teams bread and butter in the passing game outside of last season.

Augustine, Kramdi and Lawson are different just due to the passport. Rose was a solid vet who you could argue was still one of the better DBs on the team before that season. My point was more Jones hasn't really done anything to get a huge pay raise.

Whats Andrew Harris doing these days? Isnt he coaching football somewhere?

Maybe he'd like to try being our OC. At least we know Brady would get the ball, lol.

Has some full-time job in Ontario, last I heard. Was supposed to be involved with the Nanaimo junior team that he used to play for... Not sure if that's still a thing.

I would think Harris would need to be slowly brought into a role of an OC and I can't imagine his ego allowing him to be a RB coach or receivers coach for a few years beforehand.

I'm not sure if Buck was the problem or if it was ZC tossing high risk throws that resulted in our issues last season.   I'm not sure it was designed by Buck for Zach to throw it into triple coverage.   I guess we will find out next season.

I'd be all for Jackson to be honest...He would know how to use the pieces we have....and I bet he could bring Leake with him as I sure Leake loved how he was used...He would solve several issues for us...returner...receiver...change of pace backfield guy

Sooo....you're hoping for the Bombers to take a Leake?

i think what he lacks most is experience & will only get better starting games. I.m hoping that we'll move away from Bighill. Save us some money for free agency.

I'm hoping this is sarcasm.

Jones signing hopefully means the end of kyrie and or preferably and moving on from bighill. Just $$$ wise you saving a bunch going younger at LB.

It definitely signals that Jones is definitely in our plans....so it's the end of the road for somebody.

I've been away the past 3 or 4 days through all the appointments of head coaches & general managers. One thing, maybe I'm wrong here but I sure get the impression that both Goveia & Pierce (Buck especially) couldn't wait to leave. I think Pierce is pissed off the fanbase blames him for the Grey Cup loss when it was O'Shea who told Collaros to get back in there with his wounded finger.

I haven't heard a thank you, Winnipeg from either of them. As a fan, I'm not asking for much but ignoring the team you came from because some fans made you angry seems petty if that is so & even a little classless.

The blame for the Grey Cup lands squarely on the players who shat the bed. That being said, Pierce's play calling was very poor. Whether we went with Collaros, Wilson, or Dolegala we were going to have to heavily rely on the run. We didn't and that put our offence in a situation where our offence was reckless with the ball. It was a lack of trust by our OC in our OL's ability to play bully ball.

That being said, I don't think either Buck or Ted left with any kind of axe to grind against fans, media, or the organization. Both men left for excellent opportunities.

I don't think that's the case at all.  Both guys have been candidates for GM/HC jobs for a couple years now so it was only a matter of time.  If either guy wanted to advance their career (which they both did and now have done), it wasn't going to be in Winnipeg, at least not at this time with Walters & MOS here.

As far as a thank you goes, it's only been a day (for Buck) or less (for Ted) since their hirings were made official. Give it time. Winnipeg was very important to Buck and his family so I'd be shocked if he didn't say something at some point.  I don't think I've ever heard anything from Ted - he's been more of a behind the scenes guy so I'm not sure that will change.

Yeah, not saying that Buck has an axe to grind with fans here but those comments had to hurt. I read some of them here.

Hodge with a decent article on our oc options.
I hadn’t thought about getting costanza back but do like that idea. Lionello is a big jump but he’d be an excellent get too, really like the refresh he could offer us. Mike miller of the Argos is a real interesting pick. Hes done the job a bunch in the nfl. I think he’s the perfect guy to pair with a young guy like lionello but idk if he’d want to be the mentor.
All in all a good list.

Only if he paid attention to them.  Coaches/players/officials are probably best served by not going anywhere near places like this - we're all on the outside looking in so what we say doesn't hold any weight but could still be bad for you mentally.  You could be the best ever in your role but one slip and people will s**t all over you.

Yep. And oc, next to hc, has it harder than any other coach. need to have a short memory for bad stuff in a line of work like that, and stay out of the papers.

Some definite interesting guys on this list. I like the idea of poaching from Toronto, they've been a very well coached team the last few years.

Someone tell buck our O was **** the entire year outside of 3 or 4 games.

Actually, please don't.

Tell him the opposite, say our O was outstanding I wouldn't change a thing for your new O in BC plus take on as many roles as you can as the new HC it being your first time.

All good.

🙂
