His statistics were actually surprising … better than I thought they’d be for sure. Did he get benched last year or injured? I remember his hands being pretty suspect in the couple games I watched

Yea he got benched for Dohnte Meyers before he got hurt & then drew back in.

Fond memory of a ball hitting him in the face in the endzone vs BC.

What bothers me about Zach more than anything is I think he should be taking a paycut to put better players around him.  He's not as good as he used to be and needs a stacked team around him to be effective IMO. Other starters around the league took paycuts.  Based on the regression in his stats he should have done this too.

Zach has guaranteed money in his contract, why would he renegotiate?

Guys only do that on threat of being cut outright. The guaranteed money means Zach isn't getting cut.

Sterns is like Kelvin mcknight. But the type of athlete you need to be at his size. Great agility, good quickness, stronger than you'd expect. I think he might really excel in the slot with the right usage. He doesn't have the straight acceleration of an elite athlete from a stand still, so if he gets really good with the waggle he could be deadly. Floor is a rich mans Mcknight, ceiling is a decent version of weston dressler. (though it takes a lot of none measurables to be what dressler was in this league.)

I really like this move actually, should be really cheap, will really push the rookies and the last starting import. I think going more veteran guys capable of starting than you have jobs is what we need with the approach we are taking to free agency.

I do think Sterns has a good upside. Very quick and showed elusiveness. Comparable could be mtrl's Snead. (this signing looks like a safety net in case Schoen isnt ready at start of season)

I like it too, he isn't Snead, but he is for sure in that mold. Snead for me has that 1 step acceleration and change of direction ability.

Rather they signed ex-Elks Hergy Mayala or Kyran Moore, both bring more ability than Sterns, but both have been injury prone throughout their careers.

I don’t agree with any part of that, to be honest. Moore is absolutely cooked. Mayala has been an underperformer his entire career. Sterns has far more upside.

Tbh, I think the main thing they have over sterns is some level of name recognition. I think all 3 are basically the same level.

Not seeing who really fits the boundary wideout spot of who they've signed so far.  And that spot has been a weakness since Darvin Adams has been gone.  Lawler and Wolitarsky were ok there, but much better fits in the slot or to the field.  I bet they try Mitchell there, but I'm not sure he's got the ability at all 3 levels to get open and make plays.

yeah, If any thing sterns has an actual good chance to fulfill some of his upside.

That is an excellent point, and I bet you're right about Mitchell. I could see wheatfall getting reps there in camp too.

I think we could be any where from the bottom of the top tier, to the dumpster. I think our floor is higher and our ceiling is lower than last year. But that we will likely be better in the wr core this year, than last year. Sure could use another big rookie wr find.

Expand

You think the ceiling is lower? If Mitchell and White can be who they've been in the past I think this core has the potential to be our best in quite a while

Kenny is a paycheque player, he goes to the highest bidder. WE DON'T NEED HIM. I will miss it when he has a monster game tho. This regime has eared my trust and will trust the process as well.

If we saw another year with massive injuries and unfilled potential, yeah. It can always get worse. Sure the potential is there to be extremely good. But we've got a bunch of guys who are coming off under achieving / injuries.

Yeah we have a lot of unknown right now, which is why I'm not too keen on the group overall. But I think their ceiling is higher than last year (even with a healthy Lawler/Schoen).

Looking like theres the possibility we are going with more Americans on the field on offense given this signing.

I'm also seeing a lot of weapons that can be used in a lot of ways. I don't really see the jump ball big body type of guy. But to be honest I don't really think that's a game Collaros excels in anyways. I can see many of these receivers purely getting open in different parts of the field. Get the ball out of zachs hands quickly and have teams keeping pace with us and having to tackle in space.

To me, it really seems like the moves we are making scream “we are going to use the designated American rule this year” and I’m a fan of that

I guess they are trying to create some competition at this point.  We've got more veteran import receivers than starting spots and there's also Wheatfall who i am hoping can up his game year over year.  He showed some real deep threat potential at times.

One might.  If it would mean having a better team around him and if that makes the difference between him having a good season or not it could lead to him making more money by extending his career.

If he stays in Hamilton, he's probably behind Woli on the depth chart.  BOLO started 9 games last year on a team that loved to chuck the ball and he still only saw 21 passes go his way so he wasn't a main target for them anyway.

Expand

He only caught 21 passes as he missed a big chunk of the season with broken ribs.

I'm aware but he actually caught less than that.  He was only targeted 21 times when he did play (about twice a game).  When healthy, he was not a primary target in their offense.
