Prob see Grainger or a neg list guy brought in. More important spots to spend $$$ on. would love to see us grab a FA cdn oline like the Winnipeg kid out of Calgary and some DTs. But first sign our own guys like lawler Willy Schoen and 1 of Dobson or Neufeld. Yeah pretty much. If Strev comes back, which is a very strong possibility, we are out of the running. I don’t think we will even see a rookie qb in camp at this rate. The only chance is if they leave strevy un signed till he’s healthy and bring in a guy. Maybe some one the new oc likes. But that’s not a great chance of happening. 16 hours ago, WinnipegGordo said: Grainger was once again re-signed already. I do like this move as well. Guy has extraordinary upside and raw talent. RIchie was awful in 23, and Buck was terrible this year. As for other coaching issues, there were mistakes, but nothing that should have cost us the game but did not help for sure. No ya buts....this year especially the preparation seemed lacking. 3 minutes ago, Fatty Liver said: Matthew Betts re-signs with the Lions, It'd be nice to know what he's being paid. https://www.cfl.ca/2024/12/19/all-betts-are-on-lions-extend-top-national-pass-rusher-through-2026/ Amar says SMS what SMS? They likely blew up their draft this year so they cannot afford to be bleeding starting NATs now. Money will have to come from Peter to pay Paul, but Betts was pretty much a must re-sign.

rebusrankin Posted Thursday at 05:47 PM Report Posted Thursday at 05:47 PM So Rourke at 750 k and Betts at 260 k, that's over a million for two guys. Not sure how they afford a lot of their roster. Colin Unger and wbbfan 2
Colin Unger Posted Thursday at 05:57 PM Report Posted Thursday at 05:57 PM (edited) With Rourke on offence and Betts on defence who needs any other players right? This team is a bit of a joke with how much money they have to pay players to re-sign there. A lot of money for two players who’ve had a season of dominance in the cfl and then some ordinary play. Betts is a one dimensional DE. He can sack the qb but he's small so guys like Brady just run him over. He bites hard on fakes & misdirection so he isn't great on contain either. If the Lions wanted to upgrade their defense then they should have let him flee to Montreal as a FA. 5 minutes ago, Fatty Liver said: Can't help but think Buck may have stepped in a bucket, with the SMS handcuffs already in place, high player disgruntlement and the possibility of an owner swinging his **** around. Rumour has Sask. going hard after Maier, given the options left, Masoli, Shiltz, or Arbuckle may be the best of the leftovers if the Bombers are at all interested in not repeating the same mistake that sunk their battleship. If it’s a light slap on the wrist again, I expect more of the same. On that note, I wonder how that will work since ambroise is now gone and the league is going to be looking for a replacement.

Ambrosie was a joke. I think the new Commish will let last season ride out like Ambrosie would have but I'm hoping the next Commish will look at opening the CBA to increase the cap.

Another random question popped into my mind last night out of no where: What achievements can be directly and/or indirectly attributed to RA's CFL leadership tenure?

He took advantage of the upheaval in the US under Trump's first administration as well as the situation with NFL players refusing to stand for the National Anthem to sell a few cheap Diversity Is Strength Tee Shirts when he first became Commissioner. I thought it was always just a cheap shot at America. After selling those shirts, it was all downhill from there.

Why would they go "hard" after Maier? There are no more starting qb spots open. He's just a backup & no better than some of them already signed for less to other teams. But sure, knowing how the Riders always love other team's "sloppy seconds", I'm sure they'll make him the highest #2 qb in the CFL. Edited Thursday at 07:13 PM by SpeedFlex27

I would guess Sask. left some room in their QB budget and judge Maier to be a good backup option and a reasonable possibility of becoming their starting QB in a year or two if all goes well. Bully for them.
Goalie Posted Thursday at 10:31 PM Report Posted Thursday at 10:31 PM (edited) TSN's Farhan Lalji reports Betts will earn $260,000 in 2025 and $270,000 in 2026, making him the CFL's highest-paid defensive player. that’s crazy. What a grifter. No plan. No nothing. Just give us $20 million & we won't tell you how we plan to spend it. Just about everything else he did was a fail. He thinks they're still looking for a team in the Maritimes. Yeah, right. He sucked. The worst Commissioner. Worse than Crump. Worse than Lysko. Worse than Orridge. That's saying a lot.
