wonder if this means McInnis ends up going to Calgary to join Adams? Hes bound to get a decent paycheck.. meanwhile in bomberland all is eerily quier

I could see that (McInnis to Calgary). Yesterday, BC picked Lenius up off the scrap heap so maybe they're hoping he can stay healthy enough to be his replacement?  He will be much cheaper than what McInnis is going to make.

3Downnation says it's $260k (plus up to $6k in bonus) next year and $270k (same bonus) the following.

I think that's about right for him.

Why?

With Rourke on offence and Betts on defence who needs any other players right? This team is a bit of a joke with how much money they have to pay players to re-sign there.

A lot of money for two players who’ve had a season of dominance in the cfl and then some ordinary play.

Which means they now have the highest paid players on both sides of the ball.  Interesting that Betts is all salary and no marketing money.

Cuz he cries, acts and fights like a toddler when he gets consistently washed out by an olineman? 🙂

I don't disagree but the flip side is they are paying a third of Rourke's salary in marketing money.  That's a lot of money to go around telling kids that the CFL is just an unfortunate detour.

For sure I agree NR showed his true colors standing on the sidelines while VaJ did his thing but to my untrained eyes on MB, what an overspend. :)

Dl are one of the highest paid positions in the league, and he’s alone a top the like of best ni des.
But the market is down on dl and D over all. Maybe every position save ol.

I get why they paid him that and I’m not surprised he got it. I think we’ve had worse contracts for sure. All that said, I wouldn’t want to be into him for 260/270k. Hes too much of a Joe Fleming type. Dominates in spurts when he gets a great match up. Invisible otherwise.
IMO he’s a fair value at 200-230k over a full season.

Best in class D-Linemen last year were over $200k. We had two of them, Orimolade ($240k) and Ceresna ($222k).

He is a best in class rush end. Add the fact that he's a national and a re-signee and you get $260ish.

Is he though? He's a one dimensional guy... someone like Ceresna yeah he's a dude you can pay an assload for cause he does a lot of things, but Betts? Too easily nullified by a physical game.

I see a lot of that talk about him in the forums, to a large extent I think it's unfair. Saying that he's a one-trick pony implies that it is the only thing that he can do. As though he never stacks up or does pursuit just isn't so. You won't see me say that he's an elite run defender (middle of the road on a good day, imo) but he is elite at pressure and a good DC will use him to great effect.

Additionally, his contract is for what should be the most productive 2 years of his career (Age 30 & 31). I'm not saying that $260k is a great value for the Leos, but they paid him to keep him before free agency and that's also a premium.

its an over spend....he's had 1 really good yr....can rush off edge, but even then when he was watched for jumping he disappeared basically....and if he cant get off a block he is useless....and washed away. He will make some backside pursuit plays, but that is when he has come free...and over shot...and isnt engaged to get back in the play....he's a decent rotational guy, and if he is on a dline where 3 other guys are being physical and responsible with gaps and run responsibility...then you can live with the deficiencies...I guess...but has a piss poor attitude...especially when being owned and when he is....his game totally evaporates.....over pay in my opinion for sure....CDN or not

good deal for them....

did the salary cap go up a lot? cause some of these signings in terms of $'s are head scratching. Calgarys Philpot  ly 659 yds , prior to that was injured for the previous two years.. If I'm BC's Mckinnis I'm asking for 220k minimum.

100k increase maybe....I think tho that deal is more geared toward what he should do if he stay out of the tub....and at that money  for a versatile CDN in the Demski type skill set.....if he plays close to a full season he probably puts up  as good or better numbers in my opinion

That being said CGY doesn't have many if any big ticket salary guys currently so thats a good price....too bad we dont have Demski in that range
