The dude's game has changed a bunch in his time as a starter tho -- he used to be at his best running around, scrambling, making DLs look silly with that spin move and making big hay on broken plays.  nowadays he's not nearly as zippy as he once was, he plays much more controlled with quick throws from the pocket.  Looks like mileage and maturity (and the Maas coaching) has been accumulating.

I think a lot of that comes down to Maas doing a great job of off setting fajardos weaknesses. Plus having stellar talent at ol and wr. But he has certainly matured and doesn’t just need to rely on spin move left to right! lol

speaking of running QBs, Tracy Ham was one of the most complete guys I've ever seen play.  He could kill you with his legs or his arm and he was way more consistent than guys like Dunigan and Allen were.  Basically a QB designed for the CFL, not a glorified running back.

I think Ham is a guy we don't talk about enough when talking about the all-time greats -- he's not a Flutie or Moon but fits real nice in the tier underneath those guys.

Qft

Agreed.  Especially compared to what he had in Saskatchewan.  Receivers were ok, but that OL was terrible.

I think Maas did a great job rolling out Davis Alexander too.

So glad that Maas beat out Mace for COTY.  once upon a time the dude was just a jug-eared gatorade destroyer, but now he's the guy who beat us in the Grey Cup with Cody freakin Fajardo.  Bragging rights earned.

Dunigan at his best was fantastic, but I don't think you'd ever call him clutch. He laid a lot of playoff / Grey Cup eggs.

The one I remember best is the Grey Cup in 1992. Our D was awesome, it held Flutie & Co to just 24 points, but it got zero support from the O.  Dunigan only mustered 46 yards of passing in 3+ quarters before he got pulled for Danny Mac.  He was worse than numb-thumb Collaros.

If you look at the receivers we had in that game big reason, we got down fast in that game too...any QB playing against Flutie had trouble in those days. In their prime though and you could pick a QB between the 2...it would be Dunigan imo.

That’s a great point. Maas in Montreal has been a completely different animal vs how he was previously. Idr the last famous Maas meltdown. Always a keen football mind and talented coach. Hes certainly turned a corner in Montreal.

yeah ssk had decent possession WRs. Mtl has guys who are extremely dangerous with the ball in their hand. But the ol is the big difference. Literally from worst ol to best ol in the league.

You lost me at Dunigan. Hey everyone has a right to their opinion but Ham was not a better Qb than Dunigan .....

Would you rank Zach over both of them?

He wasn't brought back as a choice? Or he wanted to play in the USFL?

He hit the wall seemingly with cardio. Was damn good before that.
Really like that get for the Argos.

He was gassed and got burned badly for like 3 straight games before we went away from him. OC's picked up on it and we were getting torched. IIRC his gassing problem was due to bad asthma. Would be a great guy to have to rotate in though.

Yep. Some times rookies just need to get acclimatized to 18 game seasons. It’s a real adjustment.

Interesting trade. I like it for Montreal. It does consolidate styles styles really well for both. Makes sense to have Fajardo who can atleast run with ford. Bet faj takes over before ldc.

Interesting because CF has voiced that he still wants to be a starting QB, I wonder how Tre Ford feels when he was getting the lip service that he was going to be the franchise QB. Obviously something has to give here.

If you can't beat out Faj, you don't deserve to be a starter.

Tre Ford best shut up and win football games if he wants to remain #1, competition in the house.

Is it odd that 3 different QB's starting Grey Cup's against us the last 3 years. Winnipeg lost all three games. Not a single one of those three is projected to be a starter heading into training camp this year.

It’s really damn sad that’s for sure.

Missed opportunities for sure. We should be atleast 4-1 in the grey cup in those years.
