Noeller Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 From Jeff Bannon's FB page, there was a discussion about Kevin Glenn's .700 winning percentage since coming to Calgary. Someone called out Kelly for cutting him, and lo and behold, Kelly showed up and explained himself: Mike Kelly you're welcome Cary! Kevin got himself in shape, lost the braces and became focused again so I'm glad the change of scenery motivated him to improve...now I'm sure you also understand the business side of those decisions too, right? Each year is different and there are a lot of things you simply do not know. Our record from 2009 would be a play-off team this year so it's pretty difficult to give equal measure to different years. 2009 Montreal was 15-3, what are the now? Toronto was 3-15 what are they now? 3 of the last 4 years the Bomber record has been less than 2009 and the lone season it was better they went 3-7 in the last 10 where we won more than we lost after Labor Day...LeFors surgery went well by the way but he has chosen to coach high school football and doing quite well...enjoy the Thanksgiving weekend!!
The Unknown Poster Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Doesn't really explain anything. But he's certainly correct that the bombers are worse now than when he coached.
17to85 Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Doesn't really explain anything. But he's certainly correct that the bombers are worse now than when he coached. of course Toronto and Hamilton are much better than they were back then too so which is the reality? Bottom line Kelly thought that booting an unpopular kevin glenn would score him points with the fans. Guy is that egotistical he wanted everyone to fall at his feet praising his brilliance. DR. CFL 1
DR. CFL Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 And why does anyone give a flying fig what Mike Kelly says or thinks - if he in fact does have the capacity to think. As any therapist would tell you those with the biggest egos are often the most insecure people in the world. Super Duper Negatron and TBURGESS 2
iso_55 Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 I never understood how such a good offensive coordinator like Kelly could be such a lousy head coach. Oh wait!
Blueandgold Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 I don't think Kelly was THAT bad as a head coach. But he was a terrible General Manager, Offensive Coordinator and QB Coach.
Jacquie Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 He is right about what he said about Glenn though. He is not the same physically as he was when he was here.
Noeller Posted October 12, 2013 Author Report Posted October 12, 2013 Kelly's largest flaw, by FAR, is as a human being. All the on field stuff is almost forgivable, but who he is as a person....that's what ruined him for me.
Brandon Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Kelly at least showed emotions... and sadly Burke's legacy will be possibly lower then both Kelly and Reinbold...
17to85 Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Kelly could have been a good coach and maybe GM as well if he had been able to put aside the ego, but that ego was so out of control he was actively hurting the team in a vain attempt to prove to people that he was a brilliant GM/HC
Zontar Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Nice try, Mike. You cut him because you thought he wasnt a leader and questioned his desire, if not his heart. Its in the interview Friesen (who didn't question a single accusation) first did with you when you. It's out there.
Floyd Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Cut him to save a signing bonus because let's make a deal kelly was already losing comtrol of the salary cap
DR. CFL Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Mike Kelly was not the GM when he was here.
Noeller Posted October 13, 2013 Author Report Posted October 13, 2013 Mike Kelly was not the GM when he was here. Didn't Taman leave before that season...?
DR. CFL Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Taman left in January. Kelly was hired as the HC, Murhpy was Dir of PP, and Hodgkinson was the AGM. No one held the position of GM.
Mr Dee Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Kelly handled many roster moves, in essence, the GM. He added, deleted players using hand held placards.
DR. CFL Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 So determining the roster is done by the GM or by the HC?
DR. CFL Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 There are significantly more to being the GM than deciding the roster. Joe Mack hadn't figured that out either.
DR. CFL Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Mr. Dee you got a p,us one for your DelMonaco one and a minus one on your last one here. Still a better record then the Bombers.
Mr Dee Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 I'll send out the recall notice for you.
Blueandgold Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 The scariest thing is, that since Kevin Glenn was cut the highest quality of QB play we've gotten is Steven Jyles in 2010. SPuDS 1
Floyd Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 Taman was demoted when kelly was hired. Kelly was gm
DR. CFL Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Taman was not demoted when Kelly was hired. He quit because he didn't want to work with the guy. There was no GM, Bauer had decided he would oversee football ops and Kelly, Murphy and Hodgkinson.
