DR. CFL Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 Given the recent events at City Hall and the fact that Sheegl was the City's representative , as well as the head of the Stadium company should he now resign from the Bomber Board?
Noeller Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 I thought it was announced earlier this week that he HAD resigned?
pigseye Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 Yeah I think Katz said he would be resigning from all the boards he was on including the Bombers. Noeller 1
Jacquie Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 Council was going to vote on removing him as City rep on a number of Boards so the evening before the vote Katz suggested to Sheegl that he should resign from them so he sent an email to the BoD doing that according to a number of media reports.
Jacquie Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 One down another 9 to go. 9? If you're referring to the Bombers BoD there are more than 10 Board members.

I am refferring to the BoD, but I have no issue with either Thompson or Cameron. Strath is new to the Board, so not sure if she is part of the "ole boys club" or not. Absolutely despise Asper and Sheegl. Anyone else find it odd that the majority of BoD's are former execs of failed businesses ?
Jacquie Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 Anyone else find it odd that the majority of BoD's are former execs of failed businesses ? Not true at all. Brock Bulbuck is the CEO of Boyd Autobody which isn't a failed business. Trevor Kennard's business isn't a failure. Chrys Pappas is a successful lawyer at the second largest law firm in Manitoba. Asper's Creswin isn't a failed business (and please don't bring up Canwest because he wasn't the reason the company failed). Deborah Metcalfe isn't a failed executive - she's an auditor for the Law Society of Manitoba. Bill Watchorn is a partner in a business advisory company. Ossama AbouZeid owns a company that oversees construction projects. Vincent Barletta is the rep for the Province. Gene Dunn is CEO of Monarch Industries which isn't a failed business.
The Unknown Poster Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 But but but they have to be failures especially Asper. Give me a break. I for one love Asper's commitment and passion.

I retract the statement that the majority were from failed businesses, however AbouZeid was apart of Buhler industries which almost collapsed had it not been for the take-over, although some believe the take-over could have caused the issues. Watchorn was from a failed business, or do you not recall Federal Industries, are we going to blame Izzy for that one ? Dunn was also apart of Federal industries, plus Willson Stationers, Cashway Building Centers were on the brink before the buy from Rona Inc. But but but they have to be failures especially Asper. Give me a break. I for one love Asper's commitment and passion. Asper is one of the reasons the organization is in this bloody mess. The Asper's are good at 2 things, #1. Using daddy's name to get what they want and #2. Getting Government funding. And please don't say without Asper there would be no stadium, the Board voted for Asper's plan..................... I wonder why ? What Commitment ?
Jacquie Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 There were a number of reasons why CanWest failed and Izzy was not blameless. The problems started during his watch.
The Unknown Poster Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Spending billions on newspapers when that was a declining industry sure didn't help. Creswin is certainly not a failure
comedygeek Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 CanWest was mostly Leonard's baby. Creswin was David's. Philanthropy/CMHR was Gail's.One is still a success. One has faced adversity/problems/detractors, but is happening and has changed our cityscape. One is a distant memory.Good job, Leonard!
Valderan_CA Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Yeh... empire building building up huge debts buying a piece of an industry that was just about to implode... that is what ****** Canwest (If I remember Izzy was a big part of those acquisitions)
DR. CFL Posted October 28, 2013 Author Report Posted October 28, 2013 Creswin was virtually up and running...only thing left is to screw it up.
Noeller Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 I love how threads like this devolve into Asper bashing....hilarious.
blueandgoldguy Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Creswin certainly isn't a successful business either.
DR. CFL Posted October 28, 2013 Author Report Posted October 28, 2013 Not sure reality qualifies as bashing. If you think otherwise as to his business acumen so be it.
Jacquie Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 Creswin certainly isn't a successful business either. And how did you come to that conclusion.
The Unknown Poster Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 Creswin isn't successful. Lol. Is Asper the boogie man too? Is he son of Sam?
DR. CFL Posted October 29, 2013 Author Report Posted October 29, 2013 I think people are not questioning if Creswin is sussessful but moreover whether that success has in any way been the true result of Asper's direct involvement. blueandgoldguy 1
The Unknown Poster Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 Asper is very successful. Look, I wish I was wealthy and famous too but Im not jealous of the guy's success. A bit of that going around here. Id rather have more people like him involved with the Bombers, guys who passionately love the team and want it to succeed.
Atomic Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 Asper is very successful. Look, I wish I was wealthy and famous too but Im not jealous of the guy's success. I'd like that too, if he were putting money into the team in any way.
The Unknown Poster Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 Well I believe his deal that fell apart did result in him putting substantial money into the team.
