Noeller Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Didier Orméjuste @DidierRDS1h Expect some major changes in the #Alouettes coaching staff. I'm told QB coach, Mike Miller and Doug Berry won't be back. #CFL Retweeted by Jamie Nye So, how big ya wanna dream, Bomber fans? Khari HC, Doug Berry and Tim Burke as OC/DC? That's actually not bad? Or DB as HC and KJ as OC? I have heard from players who were on Doug Berry's team that they didn't like him and that he was an *******, but he's a pretty good offense coach... James 1
rebusrankin Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 That dream isn't going to happen.
RagingIce Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 I would love Doug Berry back as head coach - we never should have dumped him.
B-F-F-C Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Looks like Popp is getting rid of the competition. I honestly thought Berry would be given consideration for the open HC position in Mtl. However, it sounds like Popp is fighting hard to remain as head coach and GM.

Reportedly It's Wetenhall that wants Popp to stay on as the Head Coach and GM. I wonder if Miller will get a phone call from another CFL team.

Als owner asked Popp to do both HC and GM. Likely a cost saving move because they're still paying Hawkins.
JuranBoldenRules Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Berry would be a very good OL coach and assistant head coach. Not really interested in him otherwise.

DR. CFL Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 He actually started as an OL coach when he was first in Montreal.
gbill2004 Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 He actually started as an OL coach when he was first in Montreal. Just seems like a strange combo; OL coach and assistant head coach.
Tracker Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Berry has been the best head coach we've had since Dave Richie and has done a very good job getting rookie QB Smith in Montreal up to speed in the CFL. He didn't help himself by getting into a public hissing contest with a certain kicker. I would welcome him back, particularly since he is now available.
SmokinBlue Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Why would we want doug berry, if he wasn't good enough for us before and he's not good enough for the Als now... DR. CFL and blueandgoldguy 2
Jacquie Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 He actually started as an OL coach when he was first in Montreal.Just seems like a strange combo; OL coach and assistant head coach. You mean like DL coach and assistant HC?

The Unknown Poster Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 I've been saying for awhile that's a potential dream team as far as coordinators. Berry as OC. Burke as DC. Noeller and James 2
Brandon Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 I think people are over blowing how 'good' Berry is as a oc. while he is certainly better then the crap we have had of late, i do remember the team struggling on offense with him as the coach. Remember when on the old site people would complain because we would always score on the first drive but then not move the chains until later on in the game.
JohnnyOnTheSpot Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Berry: Winnipeg - fired Sask - fired Mtl - fired Why the love? No thanks in any capacity. DR. CFL and blitzmore 2
M.O.A.B. Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 if the Bombers couldnt bring in Wylie I wouldnt mind him as OL coach. rebusrankin and DR. CFL 2
Zontar Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Just more mopping up from the plugged toilet hire of Hawkins.
blitzmore Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Just more mopping up from the plugged toilet hire of Hawkins. and the possibility of Calvillo taking on a coaching role
DR. CFL Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Cavillo said he wanted a summer off to spend with his family.
The Unknown Poster Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 My memory might be hazy but did Montreal not have a pretty good offense under Berry? Noeller 1
Noeller Posted November 19, 2013 Author Report Posted November 19, 2013 and, revisionist history aside, we had a pretty good offense with him, too. Our opening drive, in particular, was very good under DB. He always had something scripted that almost always worked. The man might be an *******, but he was a good football mind...
sweep the leg Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 I recall Kevin Glenn being a MOP candidate under Berry. Noeller 1
17to85 Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 People are choosing to remember 2008 when they think of Berry when a lot of people had down years, particularly Kevin Glenn. The guy knows his way around a CFL offense. He may not be the best coach but he's a good one and I don't recall him ever having a team with a poor o-line either. Hell Montreal got a lot better once he started working with the offense this year too.
