Floyd Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 Just watched him stuff Forte, I don't think we'll be seeing him any time... Ever. Thanks Joe.
SPuDS Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 Oh christ. Did you honestly think Mulumba was going to fit in as well as he did? I sure didnt.. And one season doesnt make a career.. Thanks kels
Floyd Posted December 30, 2013 Author Report Posted December 30, 2013 Actually, I thought he had been offered a contract...
SPuDS Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 Actually, I thought he had been offered a contract... A lot of guys get offered contracts.. They aint binding or guarenteed.. The sure way to know if he has a legit shot is how much signing bonus is on that contract..
Jacquie Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 He's also been released by one team already. IIRC he was signed to his current team because of a bunch of injuries they had. There's no saying whether he'll get a roster spot next season.
Mr Dee Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 You have the song right, but have the words mixed up. Christo Bilukidi was the one released, by Oakland. Mulumba signed with Green Bay originally, and is playing now, with Neal, because of the injury to Clay Matthews and Nick Perry. And, although he is looking good now, there is of course, no guarantee. SPuDS 1
SPuDS Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 Yup. He's looking good but no guarantee he continues on this path. Wish him the best of luck tho

Ooops. You're right. Got my draft picks mixed up.
James Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 Bilukidi was also thought to be looking pretty good, and many fans around here, and I Oakland thought he was was going to stick there also. you never know.
Bomber Diehard Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 Bilukida---Mulumba----- Muamba--- very hard to keep them straight, Jones--Whistler---Rigney was a lot easier in my day.
Floyd Posted December 30, 2013 Author Report Posted December 30, 2013 Mulumba had already signed and been given a small bonus when we took him at #2... just another Mack high-risk pick when we needed help now. Anyway, whatever - he's gone.

Anyway, whatever - he's gone. No need to rehash the draft .. but I agree with the sentiment .. there's a time and place (in the draft) to take fliers on guys who will be in NFL training camps .. top of the first round is not one of those spots. Did Calgary have the same pressing needs to address as the Bombers have (had) over the last couple of seasons? The answer is no. Brown was drafted in 97 and spent the next 4 years down south. He never once put on a Stampeders uniform. You could also look at the depth of a particular draft when reaching to take someone but I think the underlying point remains .. when you are trying to rebuild a NI talent base, there's a time and place to take a chance on guys with NFL aspirations or guys who have *already signed an NFL contract* ..
17to85 Posted December 30, 2013 Report Posted December 30, 2013 In a draft year where all of the top prospects were getting NFL looks I don't see a problem with taking one of them and hoping he finds his way back to the CFL.

All of the top prospects had NFL interest and AT THE TIME Mulumba was one of the safer bets to make it to Canada sooner rather than later.

Anyway - I for one am glad that Canada welcomed all of these great Congolese athletes into our country! Keep em coming Congo! Blue-urns 1
iso_55 Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 Brown never played a down for the Stamps so it was a wasted pick. Wally also drafted Ed Philion & he never played for the Stamps either. Another wasted pick. Both had no interest in playing in Calgary. They both went to the NFL but never stuck. When they came back to the CFL, Wally wouldn't pay them... That was back in the Sig Gutsche days when he owned the team & creditors were circling the Stamps like vultures. They had no money. How times change.

So, you could take a mediocre player and have him for years, or take the best player, and be able to either sign and play him, or trade him for other draft picks (3rd rounder for Brown who ended up being Mike Labinjo, 1st rounder for Philion) because you have great Non-import talent on your team already? When you pick guys that can't break out onto your roster, they become free agents. While the player is trying out/playing in the NFL, you retain their rights while they develop.

So are you suggesting then that the Bombers have great non-import talent? That we can afford to wait years for players to, perhaps, trickle in from their NFL stints to flip them or try and sign them? When you have a full compliment of draft picks .. when you have solid non-import depth .. you can take chances and roll the dice on some of these guys who will spend a bit of time down south. I have no problem with that. But we aren't in that position and because of that, you have to take a long look at guys who will step into camp day one and can contribute. Maybe deferring to your Canadian draft expert .. our current GM .. and picking a guy like Edem might have made more sense .. especially with how our roster was structured .. (he's someone who could step in at both LB or Safety).

iso_55 Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 Man, so glad Mack is gone so we don't have to keep rehashing his draft picks....
17to85 Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 Man, so glad Mack is gone so we don't have to keep rehashing his draft picks.... and if Mulumba finds his way up here and is a top level NI for years are you still going to scream about a wasted pick? The only reason people keep rehashing the picks is cause some people have unrealistic expectations of what you get out of a typical draft. Every single team has misses every single year. ALuCsRED 1

The only reason people keep rehashing the picks is cause some people have unrealistic expectations of what you get out of a typical draft. Every single team has misses every single year. And there is no guarantee Mulumba makes an impact even if he DOES make it north .. lots of guys with pedigre .. with NFL experience .. flame out in the CFL .. for a team, with a derth of Canadian talent, it's about getting guys in camp who can push immediately .. to make incumbents better (ie less complancent) .. to take a veteran's spot .. to address needs ..
17to85 Posted December 31, 2013 Report Posted December 31, 2013 I stand by the fact that since all of the top prospects in the draft had NFL ambitions AND with the Ottawa expansion draft looming taking a flyer on a guy going to the NFL was not a bad move. ALuCsRED 1
