Floyd Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I guess Dickenson isn't coming back, Promotion to DC? is he a dc candidate? Glad to have you on board Spuds! Dickenson for DC!!!
Armchair GM Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I don't know what to think. Don't know enough about him. Seems like a good candidate, but lots of people have nice bios that aren't great coaches. Also we are really, really Canadian as an organization. The more I think about it, the more I love how Canadian of an organization we are becoming under Walters/O'Shea. Too much is made of American players and coaches being superior to Canadian players/coaches. Canadian coaches and former CFL'ers understand the nuances of the game. It's also an opportunity to gain an edge from what might be an overlooked area... the best Canadian coaches. That's why I don't think the jump from CIS DC to CFL STC is going to be difficult for Tracey to overcome. Especially with Mike O'Shea at HC as as ST resource. I don't expect our DC to be an off-the-board hire, or necessarily a Canadian. But when you're trying to rebuild both an organization and its perception around the CFL... you have to take some chances along with your safer hires. These are calculated risks, and I'm optimistic that Walters is at least getting good, respected football people. Blue-urns and blitzmore 2
Bomber_fanaddict Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 So off the top of my head we have: CEO - Canadian - Rookie GM - Canadian - Rookie Head Coach - Canadian - Rookie AGM - American (Danny Mac) AGM - Canadian - Rookie OC - Canadian ST - Canadian WRC - Canadian I don't know much about Drew Morris or Dave Siddall but if we hire a Beaver and a Caribou to be mascots I don't think we can get any more Canadian!
Mike Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Siddall is Canadian (Winnipegger, actually) and Morris is American. PS Tracey is not a rookie.

Please do. Buzz and Boomer have really underperformed the last few years. And Bella... let's not get into that disaster...

Valderan_CA Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I like this hire... It sounds to me like whoever we hire as DC is going to have help from both Oshea and our ST coord

Floyd Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Does a season of coaching in 1998 or whatever not kind equate to 'rookie' in 2013...?
Mike Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I guess if the definition of rookie has changed since I last looked, you may have a valid point. I'll look into it. Blue-urns and Noeller 2
Dirty30 Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I'm kind of surprised Tracy wasn't brought in to be a defensive coach/co-ordinator. His defenses have been pretty good.
Bomber_fanaddict Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I'm kind of surprised Tracy wasn't brought in to be a defensive coach/co-ordinator. His defenses have been pretty good. Thats what I thought also. Bringing in guys who have experience in a few different roles might be a good thing but might also cause conflict as to who should be doing what role. Examples - MB being the OC but has past HC exp, O'shea being HC but has past ST exp, Tracey being ST but having DC exp etc.
JuranBoldenRules Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Dickenson has never coached defense and was a college kicker....he's not a candidate for DC and he's headed to Edmonton as their STC.
OldSchoolBlue Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Well we have a heck of a CIS coaching staff
pigseye Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Not only the coaching staff but the GM too but hey, someone has to give these guys a shot and recycling hasn't worked out so great for us in the past.
kelownabomberfan Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Well we have a heck of a CIS coaching staff If we miss the playoffs again this year the team should still show up to the festivities in Vancouver and just play in the Vanier Cup instead.
TrueBlue Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Great that we have good core of NI coaches. Now how about that ratio....
M.O.A.B. Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 I wouldn't be surprised if Leroy Blugh will end up as the Bombers DL coach. He has played with O'Shea and has connection with Tracy. Another Canadian coach. http://www.esks.com/page/profile-leroy-blugh
OldSchoolBlue Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Someone should tell the Bomber brass that coaches have no effect on the ratio
iso_55 Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 O'Shea should pry Orlando Steinhauer out of Hammy. They are supposed to be best of friends. Pay him the big, BIG, bucks to come here. Do whatever it takes. Mr Dee 1
iso_55 Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 Lots of CFL assistant coaches make lateral moves, so why not? Kris Sweet moved from the Stamps to the Riders as OL coach. Give Steinhauer a title like Associate Head Coach or a role in scouting on top of his OC duties similar what the Argos did with Chris Jones when he bolted there from the Stamps after the 2011 season. Then they could justify it as a step up.
