gbill2004 Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 In today's Free Press O'Shea says he fully plans on hiring a QB coach. Great news...finally! He also said there's at least 4 names he still considering for defensive coordinator.
NotoriousBIG Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 That's great, it's long overdue -- we need a QB more though!
iso_55 Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Yes, I'm very happy to hear that. Our young qbs need a dedicated coach to help them develop. I'm wondering who it would be?
Jpan85 Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 I am happy there are other DC candidates being interviewed.

Captain Blue Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Hopefully this means other DC choices than Marshall and Etcheverry
Mike Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Two of the names that have recently come into focus ... current Hamilton DC Orlondo Steinauer and current Hamilton DL coach Dennis McPhee. EDIT: for DC, I meant.
Armchair GM Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Two of the names that have recently come into focus ... current Hamilton DC Orlondo Steinauer and current Hamilton DL coach Dennis McPhee. EDIT: for DC, I meant. Love the fresh names. Etch would have been a terrible hire IMO... he's run his course. Marshall I'd take a wait-and-see with, because he might bring some fresh ideas gleaned from improving his craft following his failed HC stint. Kavis... don't hate him as much as many do. He's the rah-rah, in-your-face style of guy that Burke and Marshall aren't. Think that has value in the right places. Overall though, think I'd prefer an up-and-coming coach to a retread. Helps in creating a winning culture.
Mike Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 I will say this about Kavis Reed ... if he can coach in an environment where he doesn't have to be THE loud guy, THE noticeable one that wears his emotions on his sleeve ... he might just impress. And I think that Winnipeg is going to be that type of environment. Kavis struggles with motivating. But he's a good coach. Armchair GM 1
Captain Blue Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 I'd take either of the Hammy guys over Marshall and Etcheverry. Prefer Steinhauer just since O'Shea and him could work extremely well together.
Noeller Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Steinhauer really seems like someone that fits what we're trying to do in Wpg. If they can give him some kind of a token "upgrade" to bring him over on a lateral move, that would work, I think...

Dirty30 Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Any guesses who the QB coach candidate(s) may be???
M.O.A.B. Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Any guesses who the QB coach candidate(s) may be??? I would be very happy if we can bring in Jason Maas here.... or any Canadian QB coach out there?
Jpan85 Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Is Kerry Joseph going to retire or the Esks going to bring him back.

You may be right but based on my observations being around the eskiblows far to much is he'd consider that a strength of his.
Dirty30 Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Anyone think that Buck comes to his senses and finally retires? He's got some pretty firm roots in winnipeg now. I'd also like to see Lobo back coaching LBs Noeller 1
Floyd Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Mcphee would be a really nice hire Maas as qb coach asst oc would be amazing

Mr Dee Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Buck's not ready. He hasn't reached that point in his mind where he recognizes when his mind/body is telling him to do one thing and where the other half of his mind/body is saying - no way, duck, go down. Can he get over that? Maybe, but IMO he's definitely not ready to coach because that decision has to felt wholeheartedly, not half-assed. Bravo to the idea of QB coach though and we already we are ahead of last year when we do this.
pigseye Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Only with the Bombers is this even news worthy, good news nonetheless.
Jacquie Posted January 9, 2014 Report Posted January 9, 2014 Anyone think that Buck comes to his senses and finally retires? He's got some pretty firm roots in winnipeg now. I'd also like to see Lobo back coaching LBs Buck could be their starting QB if Lulay is not ready by the start of the season.
