Jpan85 Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 Maybe he learn from his time with the Riders. Also you have O'Shea a defense guy as HC compared to the former OC Miller. O'shea will get some things that he wants to do in too.
Bomber_fanaddict Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 Gary seems to have held quite a few roles in different areas and for many teams. He has experience (wether it being sucessful or not) and with the group of rookies we have maybe it's a good thing to bring in some experience. I'll hold judgement on him until Labour Day and will evaluate him then
rebusrankin Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 I want to rant now. I am a Winnipeger and its my right to ***** and moan no matter what. Floyd 1
Floyd Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 I guess we will see how this plays out... Our only strength right now is the DL... which Etch has had a history of undermining/ignoring... our DBs are probably not fast enough - although Wild, Sears and Suber 'should' excel in his style of D. Henoc too if we sign him... Hopefully, the GeeGees experience woke him up... but, yeah, don't sign him to more than a one year contract. Etcheverry with Tibesar is not striking fear into the hearts of opponents....

Now that I look at it, Chick and Baggs had a great season under him... so who knows...
iso_55 Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 He's a coaching vagabond. Doesn't stick really anywhere he goes.... Talk about the CFL Old Boys Club. They take care of their own.
Zontar Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Smells like a Plan C hire. Bombers dont need an "ideas" guy they need steady experienced coaching.
Brandon Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 If I start seeing guys who are 4 yards apart and trying to put players in positions that are unconventional and that don't seem to make sense... then I will once again bring out the pitchfork....
DR. CFL Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 First question u ask in interviewing a HC candidate? Who do you see as possible members of your staff? That should give you an indication of how connected and prepared someone might be as a possible HC.
Mr Dee Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 And what's his response? Gee, I know what I'm looking for in my staff, but what do the Fan Boards say about who I should hire? Jpan85 1
iso_55 Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Interestingly enough, most times fan boards get it right because those fans also know the game. Yeah, a place like this may get a bit over the top crazy at times but members usually can call a coaches success or failure before it happens.
Mr Dee Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Totally unlike when a poster can tell when another poster is going to get roasted for something he has posted.
Mr Dee Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 …. but members usually can call a coaches success or failure before it happens. No, they can't. So, you must be talking in a very general sense.
iso_55 Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Dee, as a fan.... if you are knowledgeable & know the CFL as well as the background of the guy a team hires, I think generally have a pretty accurate idea of how a coach is going to do. If I recall the different discussions we had here & at the other site, I believe most of us knew going in last year that that Tim Burke was in deep doo doo, after the horrible exhibition season & especially after Buck got hurt against the Argos in mid July. We knew Austin would do okay, Milanovich had Ray & (surprise!) Collaros so the Argos kept on winning. Dan Hawkins wasn't a surprise firing in Montreal. The timing of it was, so soon but we discussed the fact he was an American coach with very little knowledge of the CFL so we didn't think he'd do well & he didn't. We figured Huff in Calgary would do just fine, as would Benevides in BC but thought his team would be better than they were. We also knew Kavis Reed with his brusque & impatient coaching style was in tough with an inexperienced team up in Edmonton. So yeah, I think we knew & called it pretty accurately. As far as the Riders go, who gives a **** about the Riders? I won't comment on MOS until I see the rest of his coaching staff & who lines up behind the center as well as the rest of the supporting cast next year until after free agency in February.
Brandon Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 The only person who didn't think Burke was in doo doo would probably of been himself... we all knew the season was going to suck the moment they got rid of Joey Elliott and decided to continue on with Buck with zeor CFL experienced qbs as his back ups. iso_55 1
iso_55 Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Yep, we called it. Actually we called a lot of things right all around the CFL. The posters here are very insightful.
NotoriousBIG Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Yep, we called it. Actually we called a lot of things right all around the CFL. The posters here are very insightful. I was a huge Mack fan his first season. Great year one, I thought. Then he had that first off season where he slept like a baby through free agency and I thought, this guy doesn't fully grasp the GM role. Only took, what? Two excruciating years after that? That said, I was kind of surprised Fat Greg Marshall was as horrible as he was in SK. Thought he would be okay. That being said, if Fat Greg had started in a less toxic environment I think he would've fared much better.

Your examples are not examples of "members usually can call a coaches success or failure before it happens." They're a review of what has happened. Trestman was brought in to Montreal and proved highly successful. So they bring in Hawkins. Who really knew that Hawkins Cheezies was better for the team than that Coach. Even now I'm not sure of Benevides, but that just might be me. Burke was thrown into the HC role mid-season, but I'd still venture to say nobody knew he was as ill prepared to run a CFL HCoaching position, especially after spending time learning in Montreal. So, I guess you're better at that than I am, but….if that is so, or iso in this case, then I'll await your verdict on O'Shea, what, sometime in June? of 2016? johnzo and holoman 2

It's never shocking when someone who can't manage their own emotions can't manage a football team, or a McDonald's.
kelownabomberfan Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 so has this hiring been confirmed yet? Or are we waiting to see if we can get the guy the Bears fired? EDIT - Tibesar. The name just escaped me.
Noeller Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 nothing will be confirmed till Walters is back from his recruiting trip down south...
Mr Dee Posted January 24, 2014 Report Posted January 24, 2014 Hold on there Baba-Louie. The search is still on…. The search for a new Bombers defensive co-ordinator is nearly two months old, and it looks like the list of potential replacements for Casey Creehan is growing. According to a source, Bombers head coach Mike O'Shea is now looking at non-veteran CFL coaches for possible new candidates. View the full article
gbill2004 Posted January 24, 2014 Author Report Posted January 24, 2014 Nice find Mr. Dee! There's still hope it's not Etch!
