Odd rationale.  If you pretty much know he's not coming back, why not shop the negotiating rights to every other team?  Collaros is still an asset, even if you only get a 4th or 5th round pick, it's something.

Takes two to make a trade. Maybe he did try but no one bit.

Does Collaros not need to clear waivers before he becomes a free agent? If so, the Bombers would have first waiver priority because we finished last place in 2013.

I suspect Ottawa has waiver priority this season just like they got the first pick in the draft.

Brandon, I keep hoping to see it. I'd take a report of Miller/Walters/OShea etc being on their way to Toronto to meet with him.

Why would they go to Toronto? Wouldn't he mostly likely be at his home in the States?

I wonder if there`s a chance that Toronto could be hoping this would make him more likely to land in Winnipeg. If they believe that he`s going to be a good player, they`d want him out of the division. Right now I think Hamilton doesn`t have a clear picture of whether Burris will be back or not, making Winnipeg look like the best opportunity for Collaros. If they waited until free agency to let him look that could mean Burris is out of Hamilton and Collaros would be more likely to sign in Hamilton. Or maybe this theory of mine is a reach.....

I have to believe this has something to do with Barker's planning but not sure exactly how it's intended to play out...but surely having Collaros land in Wpg. is to his advantage.  The Argos really only have 2 competitors in the East so why not try to trip up Austin and throw a wrench into his plans.  Kind of forces Austin to **** or get off the pot....he needs to decide whether to go after Collaros or secure Burris..

@garylawless: Hearing both #bombers and @Ticats have put legit starting QB money in front of Zach Collaros. He's got a choice to make. #bn #cfl

I still think we have a shot. He's obviously not opposed to coming here.

Agreed, but if the money is equal, you have to think he chooses Hamilton due to their season they had last year compared to ours.  I'm not trying to be negative, but that really seems like the only realistic viewpoint.  If we're going to get Collaros, we're going to have to beat Hamilton's offer, and probably by a decent amount.

As for Burris, what does Hamilton do now if they lose out on Collaros?  Kinda awkward to bring back Burris now.

Maybe Montreal picks up Burris. Why not? I'm sure Smith isn't making started money yet.

Smith made $400k last season.

Sure he did. Probably time to stop making things up.

That article says he made $525k! That's crazy.

I didn't even know the National Post had a sports section.

Cam cole quoted his 2012 NFL salary it's an error in the article

Yeah no doubt. Cam Cole? Sorry I'm not buying it.

Of course. Mike knows more than the National Post. Why am I not surprised. You are never wrong (in your own mind that is).

Who's to say that Glenn would automatically be number 1 ?

Look I'm not opposed to Collaros coming here, but to think that Winnipeg is his only option is a bit ridiculous, none of us really know what other teams think of him.

because Ottawa took Demarco as a backup.... pretty obvious that's what they're planning on going with for their qbs. Oh sure they'll likely put in a call to Collaros but let's be honest, when the guy looks around the league for places he might start Ottawa isn't going to be there. Hamilton if they move on from Burris, Winnipeg or maybe Montreal depending on what they think of the guys they have now are the only real options where it might be a possibility.

Just because someone was picked in the expansion draft doesn't necessarily mean that he's going to make the team. Desjardins stated that they wanted to avoid taking potential FA's, even to go on to state that pretty much the only reason they selected Kohlert from us, was because there wasn't much to choose from in Winnipeg. Again I'm not stating that it's guaranteed that Ottawa will look at Collaros, just saying that it is a possibility. As of right now it seems that Hamilton and Winnipeg are the only ones trying to bring in Collaros, other teams could get involved though who knows.

Well I still recall reading he made ~$400k as starter last season.

So you figure it's accurate that he made roughly 100k a start?

I don't have any sources to verify anything but logic dictates that Troy Smith probably has a contract in the range of typical backup wages.
