Shanks Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Look at Saskatchewan... all last year, we had to listen to guys **** about how Taman was spending recklessly and overpaying - they don't seem to have ended up over the cap. I would expect Durant and Burris' contracts to be pretty close - at least, I hope we're not paying Burris more than Durant... We're just so used to having the cheapest QB in the league that everyone thinks the sky will fall if we actually pay a real salary. It's a Winnipeg thing. Spending money is wrong.
DR. CFL Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Winnipeg spends the same money. You may disagree with how they distribute that money but don't say they don't spend. That excuse is both old and inaccurate.
iso_55 Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Burris looking for MORE money than he was making in Hamilton. So much for a "discounted price".... http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/burris-shopping-for-raise-agent-243172971.html And the Bombers offer to Collaros was around 250 K http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/spurned-blue-shift-focus-to-aging-burris-242888141.html I told you guys we'd pay for Hank if we signed him. No, no, he has nowhere else to go so he'll be cheaper was the response. Sure. Mr. Perfect 1
JuranBoldenRules Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Oh yes, Taman front loaded deals with Goodspeed, Canada, Glenn et al. Took a couple years for the team to recover from that The front loading didn't kill us, the deferred salaries did. I think Anthony Malbrough is still getting cheques from the Bombers.
DR. CFL Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 Marlborough had got his money as a roster payment that Jan. There was no point deferring money when the cap was instituted as it then was a carry over into the next cap year. Teams have no desire to do that. The idea is to spend remaining cap money at the end of the year so it doesn't carry into the next cap year.

We sign Willy then or if Edmonton or Montreal sign him then we go after Reilly or Nieswander. No team can justify spending 300 000 on a backup qb

It can't continue.

Guest Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Why would Edmonton get rid of Reilly, did I miss something ? As for the Bombers "being cheap", it was reported that the Bombers were $200k under the cap. http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/12/19/bombers-lock-up-turner-to-new-deal
DR. CFL Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 The notion is to leave yourself cap space at the end of the season for a couple if reasons. Firstly it allows you to sign players like Turner. You also need to allow yourself some margin if cushion because the CFL auditor has the ultimate discretion as to cap inclusions and exceptions. A Clubs internal audit may be close but the CFL has the final say. Try and cut it to thin and you could be over. Check and see what other teams had signings in Dec. to use up cap space.

I don't believe this is true at all , but if it were to be true my thoughts would be that Reilly would then become expendable and we could swing a deal for him since the odds of Edmonton wanting to pay $300 000 for 2 QBs would be extremely low.

I would LOVE it if you could show me where I said Edmonton's reason for pursuing Burris was because they have a new coach. What I did say was, and has been noted in print as to why Edmonton is also pursuing Burris is because there are people within the Eskimos organization who apparently are not sold on Reilly. Who those people are exactly we can speculate on all day, but I never once mentioned Chris Jones being the reason why Edmonton is talking to Burris.

So what happens to Reilly if Edmonton is not in favor of keeping him. What other teams would be willing to trade or sign him at his starter salary dollars? Quick make a list of teams looking for a starter! What other teams were interested in that guy last year when he was a FA... HMMMMMM

HMMMMMM We'd be interested in Reilly sure if Edmonton wanted to cut ties, but what at all does your last statement have to do with me asking you to prove where I said Chris Jones was the reason behind Edmonton going after Burris? You REALLY need to stop making garbage up and pulling statements like that out of your rear end.

You didn't say it but you did post the article in this thread that did (the second link in your post about how much the Bombers offered Collaros). And there are also reports out of Edmonton that new Eskimos head coach Chris Jones isn't yet entirely sold on the prolific -- but also wildly inconsistent -- Mike Reilly as his undisputed starter for 2014. Mr. Perfect Posted February 3, 2014 Author Report Posted February 3, 2014 Cheers. Thanks for proving my point.
Guest Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Reilly IMO is the current King of Garbage Time, but still has loads of potential, I honestly believe that the Eskimos would be nuts to let him but then again.......................................... Ed Hervey is their GM.

Ed Hervey is their GM. I like Reilly's fight and his intensity. He also seems to be a leader on the field and has a lot of tools. If Hervey cut him in favour of Burris I'd hope that Walters would be on the next flight to Washington State to pay the Reilly family a visit.
kelownabomberfan Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Reilly IMO is the current King of Garbage Time, . yes, he definitely dethroned Alex Brink last year.
blueandgoldguy Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 Even if Burris signed with Edmonton we wouldn't have a chance at getting Reilly. We're too far away from Washington State and there are no direct flights.
Jacquie Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) Reilly lives in central Montana. Edited February 4, 2014 by Jacquie
kelownabomberfan Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 Reilly lives in northern Montana. Does he turn in to Grizzly Adams in the summer time? There is like no one living in Northern Montana. Other than a few bears.

We could have offered $100,000 signing bonus and not even felt it this year... dude is gonzo.

He wouldn't have signed until he exhausted his options. Blue-urns 1
