gbill2004 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 As per Penton's article in the Winnipeg Sun today: Teams were already trying to take advantage of Winnipeg's desperate quarterback situation before Burris left them at the altar. The Edmonton Eskimos, according to two CFL sources, recently offered Matt Nichols to the Bombers for a high draft pick. It was quickly rebuffed.
gbill2004 Posted February 5, 2014 Author Report Posted February 5, 2014 I woundn't mind him as a backup. I'd give up a 3rd rounder. Blue-urns 1
Logan007 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Buck Pierce lite ... Then what's Tate? Buck Pierce medium?
17to85 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Was Edmonton at least throwing in the crutches with the guy? Noeller 1
Noeller Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Nichols for a high pick...lol. What's funny is that Hervey thought someone would go for that.
Adrenaline_x Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Nichols for a high pick...lol. What's funny is that Hervey thought someone would go for that. dont know unless you ask. Maybe Danny Mac comes out of retirement for the season..
Captain Blue Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 I love Nichols and would be happy to have him here, just not for a high pick. MOBomberFan and Blue-urns 2
pigseye Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Would you give up Kito, for Nicholls, he was a high pick and that should be a no brainer. Floyd 1
Jacquie Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Would you give up Kito, for Nicholls, he was a high pick and that should be a no brainer. I don't think Buono would agree to it. Mr Dee 1
pigseye Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Would you have given up Kito............ I swear there is a real bad case of smartassitis infecting this site.
Mike Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Would you have given up Kito............ I swear there is a real bad case of smartassitis infecting this site. That sounds like a real pain in the butt. Logan007 and Blue-urns 2
Jacquie Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Would you have given up Kito............ I swear there is a real bad case of smartassitis infecting this site. You know perfectly well that Penton meant a high pick in the upcoming draft and not a player who was a high draft pick in a past draft.
17to85 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 What would I give up for Nichols... let's see an unproven guy who gets hurt every time he plays.... nothing.
pigseye Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 A high pick is only as good as you make it.........and Walters has said many times that this draft is weak........ala the Neufeld deal.
Jacquie Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 A high pick is only as good as you make it.........and Walters has said many times that this draft is weak........ala the Neufeld deal. Weak doesn't mean you can't get a good player with the 2nd overall pick or do you consider a third round pick to be a high pick.
pigseye Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 The pick itself is irrelevant the GM's rationale is what matters and in this case he is contradicting himself, which should be concerning.
Jacquie Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 The pick itself is irrelevant the GM's rationale is what matters and in this case he is contradicting himself, which should be concerning. How is he contradicting himself by not wanting to give up the 2nd overall pick for an injury prone QB. Logan007 1
Mike Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 The pick itself is irrelevant the GM's rationale is what matters and in this case he is contradicting himself, which should be concerning. There's really no contradiction. Giving up a second round pick in a draft that isn't very deep doesn't mean he should just throw away the 2nd overall pick. The draft isn't deep, that doesn't mean there is ONE good player.
pigseye Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Because he rationalized acquiring an oft injured, sometime starting NI oline for that exact reason.
kelownabomberfan Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 What would I give up for Nichols... let's see an unproven guy who gets hurt every time he plays.... nothing. Or we could give Edmonton back their sixth round pick we got in exchange for Merrill Johnson. Merrill Johnson for Nichols isn't a bad trade.
SPuDS Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Would you have given up Kito............ I swear there is a real bad case of smartassitis infecting this site. Old people are funny.. Go drink yer ovaltine, you'll feel better..
SPuDS Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Because he rationalized acquiring an oft injured, sometime starting NI oline for that exact reason. A broken leg that healed badly (not shocking, it was in Saskabush lol) is "oft-injured"? Come on now.. Also, like mentioned before a second round pick in a shallow draft for an non-imp tackle who has started before is a deal ANY GM would make but a top 9 pick (what I assume is a high pick) for an unproven, twice out for the season QB who may or may not be better then what we currently have rostered let alone ones we could be bringing in is NOT one a sane GM would make.. Hervey was trying to be an ass and take advantage of Walters. Very glad Walters said negative to that..
pigseye Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Nicholls is well above any QB we have on the roster.
