Mike Posted March 4, 2014 Author Report Posted March 4, 2014 As far as invites to the national combine go, I'm willing to bet they hand out a few OL invitations. My best guesses would be kicker Johnny Mark, DB RJ Cornish, kicker Zack Medeiros, and linemen Tchissakid Player, Tyson Carter and maybe Keegan Schneider get invites. Maybe a couple of the Regina boys too.
TrueBlue Posted March 4, 2014 Report Posted March 4, 2014 I'm glad they've put in the extra regional combine this year, while leaving the National one open for more invites based on the regional results. Hopefully the kickers do well seeing as they only have one invited currently.
Rids Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 There really isn't a need for a kicker at the combine as the facility isn't ideal and decision makers care less about a kickers 40 yard dash time than a 300 pound OL. The kickers go down to the end of the bubble and kick into a net from 10-15 yards away. When it comes to the interviews the teams can get those out of the way at the regionals now.
Rids Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Carter has aged out of junior making him a free agent vs being a territorial non-counter for Bombers camp last year.
iso_55 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 I thought he signed an actual contract with the Bombers thereby turning pro. Hate to lose the guy.
Rids Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 He had to sign a contract in order to play the pre-season game against the Ticats.
Jacquie Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 I'm pretty sure he was on the PR at the end of the season.
Rids Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 For the current junior players they do allow a limited number (I believe 2 or maybe even 3) to practice with the CFL club during the season (the Stampeders might be the club that uses this rule the most). They are there as a territorial protected player and not as a full member of the CFL team. If he was on the PR with a standard contract and not as part of the CJFL territorial rights then for him to be a free agent at the regional combine it means he was released by the Bombers.
Jpan85 Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Once he signed the contract to play in the regular season game he became like all other players.
TrueBlue Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 There really isn't a need for a kicker at the combine as the facility isn't ideal and decision makers care less about a kickers 40 yard dash time than a 300 pound OL. Jaxon Posted March 5, 2014 Report Posted March 5, 2014 Carter has aged out of junior making him a free agent vs being a territorial non-counter for Bombers camp last year. No, he's still age eligible to return to the Rifles. (DOB Sept 5, 1992) He was initially a territorial protection which would allow him to play pre-season games for the Bombers without counting against the numbers. He could have continue to practise with the Bombers and play for the Rifles. This ended on July 18 when the Bombers wanted to dress him for a regular season game on July 20th. Once they did that, he lost the special territorial protection status. This occured as a result of the West hit on Watson at the end of practise. Watson was injured and so the Bombers decided to forgo Carter's special status. He never saw the field in the game. http://www.bluebombers.com/article/blue-bombers-sign-brett-carter-to-contract-will-dress-friday-night He is now a free agent.

Rids Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I hadn't seen his July addition to the 46 man roster but also haven't seen his release either. So I went looking: July 18th he was added to the 46 man roster July 25th he was taken off the 46 man roster and then added to the non-active roster No other mentions for Brett Carter beyond that. Actually surprised that there aren't more guys named Carter in the league. http://www.cfl.ca/transactions-2013 With the potential upcoming changes to CJFL rules there's a lot of doubt and wonder as to who will be eligible this year. By attending a regional combine I'm guessing that a CJFL career is pretty low priority on Carter's radar. You may know more about his plans that way than I do. Rids, please post more often. That is all. I'm almost at 30 posts....isn't that enough?

Jacquie Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 From the CFL website: TORONTO -- For the second-straight year, CFL.ca will provide live coverage of the CFL Combine. After providing fans with live action of the bench press at the 2013 Combine, CFL.ca has expanded its live efforts, and will also offer exclusive coverage of the 40-yard dash on Sunday March 23rd. CFL.ca will continue to post real-time results of the bench press, 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump, the shuttle, and the three-cone drill. This year, Edmonton Eskimos receiver and former CFL Combine participant Shamawd Chambers will provide fans with an inside look at what the athletes go through throughout the weekend as CFL.ca's Combine Insider. Chambers will appear in videos alongside CFL.ca columnist Don Landry, and will also provide his insight through social media. Meanwhile, CFL.ca columnist and former CIS quarterback Justin Dunk is back for another year as an analyst. Dunk, who participated in the CFL Combine in 2010, will be CFL.ca's man on the ground, and will provide analysis throughout the weekend alongside Landry. Fans can follow along with the Combine conversation on Twitter by using #CFLCombine. http://www.cfl.ca/article/cflca-to-bring-live-coverage-of-the-2014-combine
Mike Posted March 19, 2014 Author Report Posted March 19, 2014 Montreal Combine is finished ... Have to be honest, it's a pretty sad showing. One guy that really surprised me was Laval receiver Julian Bailey. This guy was considered a top 10 pick in this class a few years ago, but it turns out he hasn't qualified as a non-import yet. He still participated at the combine as an import today and ran a 5.12 40 yard. Expected better. At first glance, I didn't see many guys whose testing numbers would earn them an invite. Quinn Everett would be one, but to me, you'd have to earn an invite based on the interview if you were anybody else.
gbill2004 Posted March 19, 2014 Report Posted March 19, 2014 Yikes. I'm pretty sure most people on here could run a faster 40 than 5.12.
Mike Posted March 19, 2014 Author Report Posted March 19, 2014 Yikes. I'm pretty sure most people on here could run a faster 40 than 5.12. They used FAT timing which results in much slower sounding times, but it's still not an impressive number. Especially for a guy who isn't even considered a NI at this point.
