Miller downplays flooding as "a little water from spring thaw." Paul Friesen @friesensunmedia 49m #Bombers CEO W Miller says builder or designer, not team, will be on the hook for repairs or redesign. Darrin Bauming @DarrinBauming 47m I have a friend in construction who told me last year more problems may arise at Investors Group Field come its first spring. Sure enough. Paul Friesen @friesensunmedia 47m #Bombers CEO Wade Miller refused Sun's request to have access to stadium and see damage, first-hand. "You're not getting in there."
Mike Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Will be curious to see how Paul Friesen spins this to place blame on the WFC.
blueandgoldguy Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 This is what happens when you get an architect with no experience designing a stadium. I'm sure if a firm with experience in designing stadiums had designed IGF the number of flaws emerging after construction would be lessened DR. CFL 1
TrueBlue Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 All of a sudden, that open air press box doesn't seem so bad. Mr Dee 1
iso_55 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Oh well, now they can pick whatever colours are in this spring. Insurance should cover this. The stadium insurers will pay the claim & subrogate against the insurers of the architect, sub trades or construction companies. This shouldn't cost the Bombers anything. If it is determined to be shoddy, faulty design or workmanship the responsible parties insurers will pay.

IC Khari Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 I wonder if this will be blamed on Butcrack or Mack somehow?

We just had the worst winter in over 100 years. A building can be designed to withstand weather much worse than normal but not a lot are designed to meet once in a century conditions.

It's a design flaw, and partly due to the cheapness of both the design and build. Corners were cut all over the place to come even close to the amount BBB Stadium was willing to pay as they added more and more features to the design to make it functional for a football team, but at least we got the sweet arches! Every part of the stadium has problems with drainage except for the concourse.
Jpan85 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Would they not have noticed water getting last year. I know the building was not totally finished but would of been to the point where they could of seen water enter it. Probably not a issue in a normal weather year.

Bad winter... not actually much water in what precipitation we did have however. Look at the flood outlook, they aren't predicting a bad one because the snow we got was so low in density (less liquid from melting)
iso_55 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 I wonder if this will be blamed on Butcrack or Mack somehow? Sure, why not? He was in on the planning as GM. Remember a story came out saying he told the Bombers BOG that the open press box was a mistake? You go first.

ALuCsRED Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 It's an outdoor stadium, and the outdoor elements caused damage. If the club wasn't getting things repaired, that would be news. Yes this is a disappointment, but should be a warranty repair by the contractor. As a great man once said, "Non-issue, handled internally. Not talking about it. There we go, we’re done."
Guest Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Guess we now know why IGF is receiving "winterizing" funding from the Province. Had a proper designer and builder been hired from the get go.......................
road griller Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 Winnipeg wanted a waterpark and a stadium. That's what they call killing two turds with one flush. Whoever 'they' are.......
The Unknown Poster Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 If only they hadn't built it in the first place, this would never have happened. SPuDS 1
iso_55 Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 RG, wasn't that was the Toilet bowl that the guy from Canad Inns hotels wanted to build at Assiniboia Downs in 2007? That was flushed pretty quickly.
road griller Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 No need for it now Iso, when you build a lemon make lemonade. Get the old slides in from Skinners and BAM, we will be sliding by the weekend.
Noeller Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 The self-entitlement from Friesen is stomach-turning. If Miller says there's nothing to see, then back off...
