voodoochylde Posted May 16, 2014 Report Posted May 16, 2014 What he did was bring in very young guys with little pro football experience. Young guys, in and of themselves, aren't necessarily a bad thing .. it's the fact we lacked a bridge or solid leadership presence which ultimately exposed this team .. I mean .. those young guys performed quite well when Richard Harris was still still with us .. he was that steadying rock .. without that .. those young guys looked lost.

JuranBoldenRules Posted May 17, 2014 Report Posted May 17, 2014 Good to see another long snapper added. I'm not too enthused about relying on a starting LB to do that job over 18 games, high risk of injury for a guy playing every down, and then who snaps? Rather have a specialist doing that job, and Fitzgerald sure didn't look too capable of doing the job last training camp.
Logan007 Posted May 17, 2014 Report Posted May 17, 2014 some of you actually may have a case for this "he thinks he's a big deal" thing if I was posting my "scoops" for my own personal benefit. What I'm really attempting to do is pitch in on the development of the MBB site and since I'm useless at pretty much everything related to website development, sharing information early and trying to get us on the map for a place people can go for breaking Bomber news is where I try and contribute. Cory is right though, I used to flaunt it a bit more when I was immature and thought it was "cool" to have inside sources within the organization, but I've said for a long time now that I don't have any connections to the club anymore, I just have a routine of digging for information that turns up something worth sharing once in a while. Considering I turned down money from "another website" in exchange for handing over everything I learn in order to continue trying to do what I can to develop this one for all of us, I wouldn't say I think I'm a big deal at all. ... just waiting for somebody to post a "U MAD?" gif now. The Unknown Poster Posted May 17, 2014 Report Posted May 17, 2014 Yeah something like that. I was a big poster on jets owner and everyone was exited for that site to become the unofficial jets forum. The founder took a deal from the free press to urge all his members to concert to the Freep forum and shut his down. It backfired. Disappointing too because he had built up a huge members list.
Goalie Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 Liking the fact this team seems to be looking to get better this year, not standing Pat (or Joe as per the last few seasons) Joe brought in new guys frequently... The only problem was he ignored the o line and kept Burke Not exactly though. He didn't ignore the oline really, he brought in guys, greaves and everyones favorite jarvis jones were brought in by mack, so was swiston and pencer, he didn't ignore the oline, i'm not exactly sure why you think he did, what did you want him to do? trade a pile of crap for some all star? Fact is, mack tried to fix the oline, it just didnt work really. and Burke? really, he may have been one of the problems last season but this team hasn't been good for a few years, 2011 was a fluke really it seems, Let's not pretend that this team was actually any good and then burke came here and ruined it.. cuz he didn't. There were way more problems than just tim burke thats for damn sure. If you wanna talk about what mack didn't do, maybe you could talk about not brining in veterans, maybe not being active in free agency (although not much really made it to free agency and those who did, why would they have come here anyways??) but to say he ignored the oline just isn't true, he drafted and brought in several olineman, they just weren't good enough. Just cuz they werent good enough didnt mean he ignored them. Just for the record, im not defending mack cuz he did do a lot of dumb things, was very stubborn it seemed, did seem to ignore certain aspects of the team at times, mainly free agency trades and the veteran issue but... anyone who thinks he didn't try to fix the problems, man you are kidding yourself. He definitely tried to fix the problems, it just didn't work out the way we all hoped it would. It is what it is. This team was in shambles when mack got here, it's a bit better now than it was when he took over but we still got a ways to go.
Bomber_fanaddict Posted May 18, 2014 Report Posted May 18, 2014 I agree with the assessment of mack. I have heard a few people now that are part of the team still who said he isn't an idiot like many think. He was just not into it anymore. He was retired and just don't put a lot of effort in.

For pretty much everyone, there comes a time when what we loved to do as a career begins to fade in interest and the fires that drove the career start to die out so that the edge we may have had dulls. Its not that we become stupid or disinterested, its just that our priorities begin to shift. Mack may have understimated the effort required to turn the ship around and just didn't have it any more.

When Mack was fired Bob Irving said that Mack's wife was battling or had just finished a battle with cancer. He didn't say how long she was sick for but that is certainly something that can change your priorities.
