It's time for #2 to take a hike. He's lost more than a step, and in much the same way that a few years ago we were guaranteed to get a big play out of him each game - now we're guaranteed to have our opponents burn him deep at least once per game. Flush #2 down the drain before we're responsible for the rest of this season's contract. (Like a band-aid Mack, quick and painless)

Even in 2011 he got beat deep a lot, but he made up for it with big time interceptions and punt returns. Now hes a struggling DB and punt returner, a change of scenery would probably do him well. At best, he's our dime back right now(I have a hard time believing Jeremy McGee would be an improve) but we should definitely be looking at replacing him with Markett at this point in time. Although, our entire defense was awful today so its hard to place the blame all on Jovon.

Why pick on Jovon?  Suber was torched all game and then took a cheap shot at Kackert...  Everybody looked lost out there.

Cheap shot? You have got to be kidding! Suber is one of the best tacklers on the team and always tackles low. He didn't know if Kackert caught the ball or not, there was no way for him to hold up! He got beat badly once in the game.

And why are people picking on Jovon? Because he has lost a step and is now pathetic at kick returns. Running back into the end zone was a really good idea. He is taking a lot of knees now, because he himself knows he is unlikely to get a good return.

We are supposed to have the best special teams coach...why can't he see that putting Jovon back there is not helping us winning football games.?

The Argos have a lot of speed, combine that with lots of crossing patterns (subtle picks) and an accurate QB and you get receivers looking wide open all night. The defence never had a chance playing man coverage and zone is only for experienced guys who have played together and know when to pass off on the coverage.

That is why they all took turns looking bad tonight.

Well, this is especially true with the master Ray at QB. He had the reads right and he recognized man coverage and had his field day out there. 19/20 for 286 yds before he limped off the field.

A heck of a performance.

He keeps getting beat down the seam, taking outside leverage on a guy and looking for help inside.  Guess what, get inside position and the sideline is your help outside!  Everyone has picked on him so far.  He's our worst DB hands down.

It's nothing to do with how he's playing guys, he's just slow and doesn't physically have what it takes to play at this level anymore,  Period.

a change of scenery would probably do him well

Much like Buck, a change of scenery would do him nothing, because he's no longer got what it  takes to be a prof football player.

Can we at least get him off the field goal unit?  Every time an opposing team misses a field goal, there is absolutely no chance that Jovon will break one.  He's clearly lost a step.

Put Washington back there, and his speed and elusiveness will guarantee us some big plays (and boy, do we need them).

Jovon needs to go, he's a liability out there and it's like he forgot how to use a sideline to his advantage.

Maybe he's just not trying, as was his excuse last season.

As good as he was in 2011 (Hefney was better btw) I think he peaked in 2009-2010. Both years he was outstanding not only in coverage, but he was explosive as a kick returner. Clearly he's lost a step. He was never the quickest guy but he had a great football IQ really knew where to be in coverage or where to follow his blocks  returning the football. You see him try and make these reads and get burnt because he's s step slower now. Time to relieve him of his returner duties and let him focus on the Defensive side of the ball. No doubt it's taken a toll on him.

If he's lost a step, he's lost a step, no point keeping him on returns or on defense. When a player loses a step as badly as Jovon they become a liability. Why is it so god damn hard for this team to realize when a veteran player declines in play and get them the hell out of here. It shouldn't be nearly this hard! We supposedly have professional coaches and a professional GM doing evaluations, how thick are their skulls they can't figure out when players can no longer play.

Coaches hate rookies. Dave Ritchie always said rookies were each good for one loss a season. There just seems to be a security blanket around them. Gregg Marshall loved Ike Charlton to death long after he was done. It took Nik Lewis lighting up Ikebefore the realization hit home. What's it take for Jovon's ship to sail?

i disagree with the thread title... i would submit that #2's play has been quite consistent...

(and to the earlier assertion that Suber's hit wasn't dirty because he always hits guys low... that's some pretty specious rationalizing right there)

well Suber is so short that he has no choice but to go low because even if he goes high it's still pretty low.

still a bad rationalization, imo.

he's small, so he gets to attack knees.

So what you are saying is that any player on defence should only tackle above the knees to the shoulders? That's reserved for QB's. What a joke! It's football. Talk about seeing things only from a TO perspective!
