Brandon Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 I met Marty Gold back when I was really young, him and his big wrestling buddy who was the manager robbed the store blind one night. A couple of real classy guys. I believe Marty Gold is now cleaning crap out of some abandon hotel these days.
The Unknown Poster Posted June 1, 2014 Report Posted June 1, 2014 Marty is a great guy. And his only crime was making the RRCC station something people wanted to listen to. The powers that be didn't like a highly popular show in that covered drive home spot. And the free press actually had reporters sobbing after Marty would critique their coverage. The real losers in all that were the students. Marty continues to fight the good fight with his shaw TV show (which is very very good).

Reporters hate, absolutely hate when their work is critiqued by others, especially others in media. If a mean cuss like Adler had Bartley Kives talking about how Adler tends to 'Go Fascist' with little provocation I'm sure Adler would be running down to the Free Press offices demanding a summit with owner Bob Silver to get Kives fired. In Winnipeg there exists an unwritten 'gentleman's agreement' not to criticize other media members work. In reality the only outlets that have any kind of editorial outlook are Free Press, Sun, CBC Radio, CJOB, CBC TV and perhaps a couple web sites. So its rare when one media person from the aforementioned list criticizes another. Even more rare was the incident when Hal Anderson confronted Adler and made him cry. (two guys from the same outlet)
Nasty Nate Posted June 2, 2014 Author Report Posted June 2, 2014 CJOB started their new show today. I had an early morning appt. so I began listening at approx. 5:40am One word - AWFUL Kathy Kennedy is brutally brutal. A classic rip 'n read news person. Did an interview with some guy about a computer bug that didn't even ask the question about fixes. Rich Cloutier is solid. Solid but boring. Heavy Hal had a bit of flair and some personality. These two don't even come close to the big boy!
rebusrankin Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 Nate, I didn't even listen but based on their past work sounds about right. Hey but not like CJOB's listeners will change the dial right?
The Unknown Poster Posted June 2, 2014 Report Posted June 2, 2014 Isn't this a misuse of Cloutier? I liked his show. Having him in this role seems underwhelming. Nate what were the details of the Hal/Adler incident. I found Adler to be a lot of fun and interesting years ago but he has sort of become a bit blustery. Didn't he had a national show? Why did he come back?

Nate what were the details of the Hal/Adler incident. I found Adler to be a lot of fun and interesting years ago but he has sort of become a bit blustery. Didn't he had a national show? Why did he come back? CJOB went with Cloutier and Ms. Kennedy cuz they were already on staff and the impact on profit would be minimal. I think Corus tall foreheads believe its not gonna get better, only worse at OB so why waste money bringing in a Bro Jake, Humble Howard, Tom McGouran, etc. Go cheap and just put a new skin on old lizards. The details in the Hal/Adler incident are now officially sketchy. Hal used to preview Addy's show at 8:45am and a couple weeks or less before he got fired Hal got really testy with Adler about something Adler boasted about. Adler was evidently stunned on the air cuz at CJOB you're not supposed to judge the old boy. After that Hal didn't do any more preview shows with Adler and was dispatched shortly after the incident. Adler is 60+ yrs old and he's been doing the same show for almost half his life. He basically purchased the Rush Limbaugh rights for Canada. He tries to be the guy who cares about the small folk and the voters but ends up coming off as a pure fascist. Doesn't have much patience with callers so he doesn't take many calls anymore. Instead, relies on a host of old cronies he's built up over the years. Most of his shows sound the same - even when he forces out some voice-cracking when reading emotional events, etc. Other than the fact he's got some form of seniority at Corus his show ends up sounding the same. Blustery old guy with Ted Baxter type voice, attacking all things liberal and socialist, jumping on the Helmut Harper train, poor interviewing and listening skills. Worst tendency is he over-sells everything, including a continual rant about why his show is different and why he asks different questions. IT GETS TEDIOUS!
Nasty Nate Posted June 2, 2014 Author Report Posted June 2, 2014 Nate, I didn't even listen but based on their past work sounds about right. Hey but not like CJOB's listeners will change the dial right? Many don't know where the dial is??? lol
The Unknown Poster Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 Don't forget his joint medicine. Adler loves his joint medicine. Can't say I dislike his pro conservative leanings. Then again I liked john collinson until he went crazy.
Nasty Nate Posted June 3, 2014 Author Report Posted June 3, 2014 The expensive joint medicine company pays Adler's bills so I don't begrude them for shilling so hard for Sierrasil.... With Heavy Hal gone Adler is probably the only on-air guy at CJOB raking in over $100k (he's rumoured around $125 to $160k) Bob Irving might have crossed the 100k line but his duties have been reduced in his semi-retirement as he's strictly the football guy who does a talk show or two plus drops in mornings whenever they need a spare. I suspect Cloutier is pressing $80 to $90k.
The Unknown Poster Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 I know there was a little "talk" a few years ago about bringing Marty Gold into the fold. He actually filled in on the Night Hawk for a week or two and I thought he filt in well while being different enough to be interesting. Im not sure he'd fit into their corporate culture long term but Marty's show on RRCC radio was pulling drive home listeners away from CJOB. In the end, I think they changed program directors and ended up just pulling strings to have Marty's show shanked (not that Im blaming CJOB for that as I dont think they were directly involved - I cant remember off the top of my head, but there were station GM's from other radio stations on the BOD that vouted to oust Marty's show). I used to be an avid CJOB listener. I like to get information while Im driving around. Im far more a TSN1290 guy now. Most of what I hear on CJOB I can get online and I dont have to sit through more commercials than content to do so. CJOB isnt unique, interesting or the must-listen information station anymore. When 1290 went after them years ago with Gerald Fast and John Collinson, I started listening to them a lot. Ill never forget Collison getting suspected for repeatedly saying "do you want to suck my ****" on his show at 3PM (or so) because he was angry about kids being in the theatre to watch "54".
