voodoochylde Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Until this team SERIOUSLY makes an effort to improve the offensive line .. there won't be any success on the offensive side of the ball .. you're simply setting up whomever line up behind centre to fail. When a guy like January is your best lineman .. you have issues.
Adrenaline_x Posted July 27, 2013 Author Report Posted July 27, 2013 So assuming we clean house who do we go after that may be available. Seeing as the team is going in the opposite direction I can't see mack et Al holding onto their jobs come season end unless there is a miraculous turn around.

iso_55 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Do you seriously think that Tim Burke is the kind of head coach that can get this team to win 9 of it's next 11 games & go on a run? Just can't see it. Maybe this is a 6-12 team, maybe.
basslicker Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Goltz was far and away better than Pierce. We have a helluva lot of problems, and yes our QB play to be better, but the Goltz-Pierce debate seems pretty easy right now. I would disagree. Goltz was far from impressive. when the game was out of reach, he was only 50% and had 135 yards. Mr. Perfect 1
iso_55 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Goltz looked good at times & inexperienced other times. He/s being hung out to dry. Sink or swim. But hey, Buck/s back next game... Ugh.
Dirty30 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Won't the Stamps be only allow to protect one QB in the expansion draft next year? Why not offer up a trade for Mitchell or Tate? No interest in Glenn. Hopefully Sears and Dunn are back sooner than later, so Sears can go back to being a corner. He can replace JJ and Dunn can return to SAM as he was better at Sears. Washington can go back to DB. The BOD should be considering who the new GM is going to be and bring him in by Labour Day. Give that person time to get familiar with the team and coaches so the necessary moves can be made in the off season.
BaconNBigBlue Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Tackling was the biggest issue. No one wants to wrap up their man. Just hit them, or hope too, and knock them down. Wrap them up and drag them down. Is it because they are so small they feel the need to prove themselves?
blitzmore Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 We are going to be the only team in the CFL that doesn't have to worry about protecting a QB when the RedBlack get to pick a QB. How sad is that? There is no point whatsoever in playing Buck anymore...he has no upside potential, unlike Goltz and perhaps Hall. Pretty pathetic that Burke says he doesn't remember the play where Bombers went on 3rd and 2 and messed it up totally. No blocking and no one for Goltz to throw to if he needed an outlet. Burke says it is a war on the sidelines, not like being in the press box...what a pathetic statement from a head coach. The play calling by Calgary, made the play calling by Bombers look like an amateur team. Dickinson put Mitchell in a position to succeed, Crowton did not put Goltz in the same position most of the time. What do you expect from an American College Coach with no CFL experience who after last year and so far this year still doesn't get the CFL. He had all winter to figure it out and didn't! The defence can certainly play better, but if they don't blitz more their deficiencies on defence will be exposed every game. One deficiency? Jovon Johnson. Another? Suber has not been playing well and I was a big fan. Cauchy is also not playing that well, but only at certain times. All these guys are not going to look good unless they get more pressure, and that is not working with a constant 4 man rush and too much zone coverage. To Me..won't happen for awhile, but Mack and Burke have to go. We need a guy like Dickinson in the worst way as head coach, or someone who has learned from him, as offensive coordinator. The team overall is not that bad, we just don't have a QB and the coaching staff is not good enough!
NotoriousBIG Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 It begins at the very top. The board hired a poor GM, because they won't pay more and seem like a glorified city council. That pee-poor GM has been basically brain dead as a CFL GM since day one, and couldn't make a trade, evaluate a QB, hire coaches, or navigate free agency if his life depended on it. The HC is way over his head and has "lifetime coordinator" written on his golf visor. The OC is so inept it's a wonder he can find his way to the stadium. Oh, and the talent on the team is there to a degree, but they're young and have few capable vets to look up to. So where do you start. I say Mack obviously, but now I think you have to go even higher. After Labour Day, whereupon the Riders will hammer us, attendance will be slumping so the Bombers will "make a change," likely canning Mack and Crowton. That will be Botchko's mulligan, his one meat shield of his career. But I think, after 23 years, we have to go further.
James Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Do you guys think Dickenson would leave his sweet position as OC in Calgary when he is from there, to inherit this mess only to get fired in a few years like so many before him? Im not so sure he would. Although like the rest of you Id love to have him. Wouldn't mind having Dickenson as HC and Berry as OC assistant HC. We need two offensive juggernauts to turn this offence around! Not sure who Id want for Defence. I wouldn't mind Burke and Creehan sticking around for defensive roles, but I don't think they would be willing to take demotions. their defence isnt all that **** hot anyway, so losing them wouldn't be all that bad. Not sure who Id want for GM.... Higgins, Forde's starting to look better and better as well.
DR. CFL Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Who is starting the first to get fired poll and when poll?
bluto Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Who is starting the first to get fired poll and when poll? good thread idea. get on that!
NotoriousBIG Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Mack in September...status quo till November.....board hires Higgins/Forde by December, who announces Burke/Crowton/Creehan can look for work. New HC announced very early Jan -- likely an O mind like Dickenson. Bank on it. Who is starting the first to get fired poll and when poll? pigseye 1
17to85 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 And three games in a row where the Bomber offence gets shut out in the 3rd quarter, that's being out cached at half time that's a little bit unfair last game. The stamps started off the 3rd quarter with a long scoring drive... then the bombers actually moved into field goal range but opted to go for a 3rd and 2 gamble rather than kick the field goal. Then the stamps went on another long scoring drive eating up a ton of time. Unless I'm forgetting something the Bombers next drive in the 3rd quarter had them again in field goal range when the 3rd quarter ended. DId they actually have more than those 2 drives in the 3rd quarter? Both of them made it into scoring territory so it's not nearly as bad last night as that "3 games without a 3rd quarter point" might indicate. If the offense had got more chances with the ball in the 3rd quarter I doubt we're even having this discussion, but the TOP was just so lopsided at that point because the defense couldn't stop anything even with the offense able to move the ball a bit.

Yup, stay the course to the end of the season, maybe offer up a coordinator or two as lambs, but start planning for the house cleaning that is coming in the off season.
Dirty30 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Dickenson may be the head coach of Ottawa or Edmonton by then.
17to85 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 I am just a big fan of the way Dickenson runs an offence. That guy was always a smart qb and that hasn't changed as an OC, he just knows how to make a defence look lost.

JuranBoldenRules Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Way too easy for Mitchell to make a 5-10 yard throw. The point of zone defence isn't to cover turf, it is to cover receivers, if you are playing zone and you're not with a receiver, something is wrong. Suber and Johnson both got victimized bad on TD's because they were watching the QB and not covering their zone. Markett isn't a HB, and sure as hell isn't strong enough to play boundary HB. H Muamba really sucks at reading screen passes, and now everyone knows it. C Muamba just really sucks generally. We only have one DB who I have confidence in to make a play on the ball when it's in the air, that's Washington. The rest are lost. The DL got pressure but didn't keep contain so Mitchell just rolled away from it. Embarrassing mistakes all over the place. Lining up offside. Motioning the TE over but not having a receiver get up on the line (called for no end). Pretty good juxtaposition of a well-coached team vs. one that isn't last night. blitzmore and pigseye 2

New HC announced very early Jan -- likely an O mind like Dickenson. Bank on it. Dickenson gets paid as much as our HC now. There is no chance the Bombers could afford to pay Burke for 2 seasons, Mack for 1 and hire Higgins, Forde and Dickenson for what they would command.
Atomic Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 The problem is the fans. Need to cheer harder!
17to85 Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 One game, no biggie, two games, hmm, three games, wtf. but the point is that this game was more circumstantial than the problems in the last 2 games which were largely a yeah they sucked situation. Not taking the field goal try and then running out of time in the quarter cause you're still on your drive is not the same as going 2 and out every time you get the ball in the 3rd. The problems last night weren't that the offense couldn't get anything going, it was the the defense couldn't get a stop and put the offense back on the field.
voodoochylde Posted July 27, 2013 Report Posted July 27, 2013 Problem with overhauling the staff is that the organization is in such turmoil that you'll have a hard time attracting top talent and if you can lure them away, you have to make a significant commitment (in terms of salary and term). Like it or not, Winnipeg isn't a destination of choice if you want to further your career.
