Will update with details as they roll in No more 9-game injured list. 6-game injured list now. 44 man active roster, 2 man reserve (instead of 42/4) Practice roster expanded from 7 to 10 (12 to 15 in fall) NO MORE NON IMPORTS AND IMPORTS They are now known as "nationals and internationals"

A lot of these players who come up here from the U.S. might be out of the league by the time they get their Canadian citizenship.

Guys from the states aren't going to come up and get Canadian citizenship in time to get a contract in place. You would still need to be a Canadian Citizen long before you ever get a football contract. It's not like they can come get one and then the next day sign a CFL contract and be a national player.

It's not about getting Americans who come up here to play pro ball granted "national" status. It's about getting the status granted for Americans who come up here to play CIS ball (or NCAA via Simon Fraser) I'm not sure how feasible it will be though. The rule is 1095 days in a 4 year span. So complete your degree, graduate as a senior, hit the CFL. Good for future guys who fit the mold of guys like Doc Cassama, Akiem Hicks, etc.

That's potentially 24 more "nationals" being added to the talent pool. From one school. Probably the school with the largest sample, but other big schools will have a handful here and there as well.

He's probably eligible now, provided that he can successfully pass the citizenship test. That's one fairly decent prospect added already, without even looking much into it. Same with a guy like Travoy Martinez from Saskatchewan.

Will update with details as they roll in It will be very interesting to see exactly how they've done away with the elimination of the option year for veterans. I would be surprised if they made it retroactive to contracts signed this year. But if they did, that means that come next Feb 15th there's going to be a boatload of free agents hitting the market. Just in time for our Grey Cup run .

If they have ever been a Canadian citizen growing up and have not changed or renounced citizenship, they would automatically be what we will probably still call a non-import.

It definitely helps. They don't appear to have taken away any eligibility options (anyone who once was still would be) but they've made it easier to determine in some cases and added different possibilities on how one could be eligible.

Using this as part of an evil mastermind plan - moving Adrian Peterson up here, having him live here for a few years and apply for citizenship, all while NOT playing football, only to sign a contract with the Bombers once it's all happened just to skirt around the ratio rules - that's probably never going to happen. Not an absolute certainty though, once Tillman gets to run a team again the chances increase. There are other implications though.

After 6 games the person comes off the 6 game injured list and his salary now counts against the cap unless he gets put back onto the 6 game list. Probably still the same number of people that you can pull pre-emptively off the list per season, just now if you get injured for 5 weeks you don't get screwed by being on the 9 game injured list and miss out on 4 weeks of football where you are healthy but not worth using the preemptive removal for.
