iso_55 Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 An Esks defensive back & a Lions receiver got tangled up on a pass play downfield & a PI was called. The ref & Glen Suitor referred to it as "accidental pass interference" so instead of moving the ball up to where the infraction occurred it was an automatic first down & a 10 yard penalty against Edmonton. I got to thinking that I've never heard of Accidental PI. But both the ref & Suitor used the same terminology so I was wondering if there's been some kind of rule change? My way of thinking is if it was accidental then why is it a penalty? Makes no sense to me. Isn't the proper term supposed to be something like, "Incidental contact on a receiver downfield" instead of accidental pass interference?
Atomic Posted June 14, 2014 Report Posted June 14, 2014 I've seen accidental pass interference called before. It usually happens when the two guys' feet get tangled up while they are running downfield. Goalie 1
