James Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 If we would use Cotton more on offence it would be worth it to bench Woods.... I think We need to bench Unamba for Stoudermire and let Stoudermire do Punts. Im sure they just thought Demond earned a shot to be the full time Punt returner. But I'm sure that experiment is over now though.
blitzmore Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Washington should only be used for kickoffs not punts. That was the case last year as well! Mr Dee and Blue-urns 2

I still really like Woods, but he is a bit of a one trick pony and that might limit his chances of staying in the lineup on a consistent basis.

Brandon Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 It looked like Dinwiddie was getting the better of Marcel in the second half until that game winning drive, that was just clutch. Dinwiddie wasn't afraid to mix it up and run reverses to the sides and getting the ball in the hands of Whitaker and Stafford while they were in full stride. It felt like we had no plays where we utilized our speed.

Stoudermire could also fill Unambas role on coverage teams as well... It's a no brainer IMO. He'd be much more valuable to the roster than Woods is, who can't do anything but return.

I love Woods, but the smaller rosters in the CFL sometimes make getting guys like him on the roster. Special teams specialists. All apples. Woods is a receiver too. Have we used any DI's on offence? Didn't see Cotton out there last night. Is Unamba playing defense anymore? He was terrible in the first two games when he saw some snaps. He's basically a specialist now too. There are 4 DI's. A guy who does all returns should be pretty easy to fit on the roster, especially if special teams are a priority, which they should be. First and foremost, we need somebody who is going to make positive plays for us, first step in that regard is to secure the ball. It's too important to play around with. Calling Woods a one-trick pony was ignorant, completely disregarding the importance of special teams. Especially ignorant the day after a 1 point game in which 6 opposition points (which could have pretty easily been 14 given where the drives started) came directly as a result of flubbed punt returns. Floyd Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 Seemed like MB really drifted away from his gameplan early... we had a great call on a sweep to Nick Moore that was called on I believe a Howard procedure penalty... After that, MB called slants and hooks and ran up the middle for the WHOLE game... Real insight into how playcalling can make an OL look decent or absolutely terrible...

Stoudermire is a good returner, and is capable of filling in for Unamba as well as being a back up DB. Why would we need to back up receiver with a DI when we have good Canadian receivers? We have zero good Canadian RB's and frankly, Cotton looked a hell of a lot better than Woods on KR's anyway. Why waste a DI spot on woods when we can have just as good returning and add better depth to the roster as well?

Mr Dee Posted July 12, 2014 Report Posted July 12, 2014 It's a conundrum for sure. Woods, for as much as he gets criticized, was just short of being terrific on returns. How much worth do we put into reliability? The price we paid to get Cotton into the lineup was the removal of Woods and his reliability…and it almost cost us. But we do have to figure how to get Cotton into the lineup without disturbing the Blue Force to any extreme. It's nice to have that kind of problem instead of worrying who to plug in because we have to. Milt, Blue-urns and blitzmore 3
