Tracker Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Those cheerleaders can really stress a guy out. Performance anxiety?
Mark H. Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 More like boot to the head anxiety, pretty lethal boots the cheer squads wear out west
Blueandgold Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Edmonton/Calgary and Winnipeg/BC should both be really good games.
iso_55 Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 If the CFL was serious, I mean really serious about concussions, Hebert would have been suspended, instead of just being fined half a game cheque. Big whoopdey doo. Cohon can say whatever he wants but it's all BS. Just remember, next game, it could be one of our players who gets hurt because of a dirty hit to the head.

Yeah, welcome to football. not saying it's ok or anything...but that's kind of how football is. the next play can be your last....this isn't new.

The CFLPA is just as much to blame as the CFL. Suspensions have to be negotiated into the CBA and as you may have noticed, the CFLPA has a long history of not wanting to agree to player suspensions because of the wage loss. iso_55 1
Noeller Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Feel bad for Cornish, but my Fantaseh team appreciates more touches for Matt Walter...
TBURGESS Posted July 21, 2014 Report Posted July 21, 2014 Personally, I'd like to see the player who causes the injury to be out as long as the player they injured if it's an illegal hit, but I know it will never happen. Neither the CFL or the CFLPA are interested in player safety. They are only interested in looking like they are. iso_55 1

Tracker Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 There are problems with assuming that concussions in the CFL are inevitable with nothing to be done- there seems to be repeat offenders and players who are vulnerable to them. The repeat offenders seem to think that there are so little consequences to their hits that they do not have to change their mindset to go out and deliberately maim others and on the other hand we have Matt Dunigan who is probably going to have problems for the rest of his life. Surely there have to be better ways of handling this.
17to85 Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 A concussion that happens in a run of the mill tackle or even an incidental kind of thing is one thing, a concussion because a guy gives you the old club across the head in an obviously dirty play is quite another. One you should be able to remove from the game. iso_55 and bigg jay 2

The CFL will follow along like a dachshund on a leash once those rules have been implemented in the NFL.

Surely there have to be better ways of handling this. There are many things the CFL could do but that would require both the league executive and the CFLPA take the problem seriously which is not going to happen until there is an incident where the concussion causes serious damages that can't be denied and both get sued and lose. How many times have we heard Brown when he was the rep and even now express the opinion players, who have no regard to the way they hit another, should be lightly punished. How can you justify the position of one who represents his co-workers refuse to take steps to protect them? Again, why don't the players themselves require their reps to include that protection in the CBA. If Cornish were to file a suit against both the CFL and CFLPA, he would be fighting the world be himself.
Bigblue204 Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 It also doesn't help that the CFL is pretty much useless when it comes to suspensions. That needs to change.

I mean, look who runs the CFLPA, Scott Flory & Ed Molstad? That's the joke right there, isn't it?
JuranBoldenRules Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 The hit was against the existing rules and punishments were given in game and after in the form of a fine. What it comes down to is respect. The only way the league could legislate that is by having a three strikes, you're out of the league rule in regards to intent to injure like this "hit," which was actually more of an assault. Even that may not deter an idiot like Hebert, just eventually run him out of the league. blitzmore and SPuDS 2

gbill2004 Posted July 23, 2014 Author Report Posted July 23, 2014 @CFL: JUST IN MT @SUNMitchell: According to a source, Jon Cornish headed for 6-game. Return date Sept. 6, but they can pull him off early. #CFL
