IC Khari Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 I realize Montreal and Toronto have played one less game, but as of today, we've given up the most points in the league and yet we are 4 - 1. All this despite what most would say has been a very good defence? Must be a mirage LOL ...
Rich Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 We've also scored the most points in the league
gbill2004 Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 On a per game basis we've given up 22.8 points per game. For comparison sake of points given up per game: Calgary: 13 Edmonton: 16.8 BC: 18.4 Sask: 28 Ottawa: 26.6 Montreal: 28.3 Toronto: 28 Hamilton: 23 If you go by pure points against, which doesn't consider points given up on special teams or the offense, the Bombers are 4th best in the league on a per game basis. Five teams are worse than the Bombers. Need to compare apples to apples. Mark F 1
Floyd Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 What's even weirder is that we are still following Will Ford on Twitter. Make it stop, please.
FrostyWinnipeg Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 On the other side of weird if we we're still in the East we would have secured a playoff spot by now.
ALuCsRED Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 If the other teams play some more 10 - 7 games, our defence is going to look terrible. One must also consider: - 6 new starting QB's with their teams (Burris, Smith, Collaros, Willy, Mitchell, Glenn) - 4 new Head Coaches with their teams (Higgins, O'Shea, Campbell, Jones) - Penalty Parties - 24 new starters in the league - Weather (Windy and Rainy in Edmonton and Saskatchewan)
Jpan85 Posted July 26, 2014 Report Posted July 26, 2014 Add to that is the thinned out Canadian talent across the league especially along the oline
voodoochylde Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 Going to ask that people refrain from posts geared toward individuals .. discuss the merits (or lack thereof) of an idea or topic but some of the responses removed from this thread have no place here. We prefer self moderation and like to give the community a fair bit of latitude when it comes to debate .. Please don't make us reconsider that stance. Atomic Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 Updated Points Against per Game: CGY - 13.0 EDM - 16.8 BC - 18.4 WPG - 22.8 HAM - 23.0 SSK - 23.25 OTT - 28.25 MTL - 28.25 TOR - 29.8
JuranBoldenRules Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 By the end of week 11, the entire East division and Saskatchewan, maybe BC too, will have more PA than the Bombers.
gbill2004 Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 OP is trying to make the case that the Bombers have a bad defense, when some simple math shows the Bombers D is in the top half of the league. IC Khari 1
IC Khari Posted July 27, 2014 Author Report Posted July 27, 2014 I love this d and the way they've been playing, sorry if my intent got misunderstood. Not really saying they have a bad D, just interesting that they have allowed so many points with the 4 - 1 record. Of course as mentioned by other posters scoring the most points has helped with the record as well.

IC Khari Posted July 27, 2014 Author Report Posted July 27, 2014 If they keep limiting teams the way they did BC they'll lead in fewest allowed and points scored soon.
James Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 I'd argue we're a top three defence for sure, if they wrapped up against Edmonton, we'd be looking a hell of a lot better statistically... So far so good, let's see if it keeps up

Totals are meaningless when the number of games played is so uneven.
Floyd Posted July 27, 2014 Report Posted July 27, 2014 Either way... end of season stats are what matters with Etch. Teams will have lots of film by Labour Day, then we will find out just how good his schemes are... His M.O. has always been a second half slump.

Look at the average points given up per game noted a couple times in this thread.

It's not like he is doing anything here that he hasn't done before in his other stops. blitzmore and SPuDS 2
