BigBlue Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 In the post game show Bob Irving said that he does not expect Michael O'Shea to bring in Hall or other conventional defensive players. He seemed to imply that they would only be adding the type of player that could play Rtch's defense. Personally I don't think he will be making a lot of personnel changes this year perhaps just filling a hole here or there due to injury it's pretty hard for a import offensive tackle to adjust to the game quickly enough to be helpful this year I don't know what our instructions are to our US Scouts but unless they are ranting and raving over a particular individual I expect we will be signing the late cuts to contracts for next year not this year personally I would like to see O'Shea continue to overhaul the team and improve our talent level,,, I am not too concerned about making the playoffs, but I am very concerned about getting a much higher level of potential talent so we all want the big names and the past successes but I am guessing that that's not what Walters and O'Shea are looking at right now as they fill up the PR from down south does anybody really think were going to bring in a game changer for right now?
Fatty Liver Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 I suspect you're probably right. Once Bomber fans stop worrying about making the playoffs they'll get back to appreciating how much better this team is and what a bright future they have. NotoriousBIG and Goalie 2
Goalie Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Personally, outside of alex hall, there aren't many game changers out there and even then, he's a question mark. Most these released NFL guys will try to catch on with other teams, there are no quick fixes out there right now... You know what, I'll bet they bring in a couple guys in a bit when the PR expands but other than that, i wouldn't expect much. Like you said, it takes time for guys to learn the CFL and right now, you got guys who have been here all season who haven't been given a chance yet, people talk about bringing in another RB, why not give Bolton a shot? he's been here all season on the PR, let's see what he's got. Gotta give the young guys chances too, football is a young mans game and we are a young team.. Who should we bring in? Hall? I'd be fine with that, Matthews? Nope, he's on the Seattle PR... Like i said though, outside of alex hall, everyone else is a pipe dream, I see people mentioning chris williams but he's ticat property, honestly doubt he goes back there but... i doubt we see him back in the CFL this season anywhere... Other guys who are not familiar of more specifically guys who haven't played in the CFL before, Probably a couple but we won't see them on the active roster right away. Gotta give them a chance to learn the game and the system before throwing them out there in the fire. Mr Dee 1
gbill2004 Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 What the Bombers scouting team needs to be looking for is a bigger 220-230 pound bruising running back to complement Grigsby; a guy like Anthony Allen. We need a RB who can get 5 yards on every down. Grigsby is getting a little better at hitting the line harder, but getting 2 yards on first down just isn't acceptable. Mark F Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Q. At What positions are we most lacking? Q. Did Bryant Turner played more effectively when Hall was here?
gbill2004 Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Q. At What positions are we most lacking? Q. Did Bryant Turner played more effectively when Hall was here? We need a big bruising running back. OL upgrades are always nice but I thought Jones played a good game and I'm excited to see what Chad Anderson brings to the table. Bryant Turner is playing differently this year because of Etch's system, not because Hall is or isn't here. He's just asked to play a different role...there isn't a designated pass rush specialist this year, like in the past with Hall. Mark F 1
17to85 Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 If you're not getting better you're getting worse. If they aren't looking for players to push other guys and make the team better then Kyle Walters isn't doing his job. BomberFan and James 2

It's a two way street and I would say the winnipeg market has been extremely patient with this team but is predictably very fragile. Mr Dee 1
Dirty30 Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Is winnipeg not hosting the Grey Cup next year?
BigBlue Posted September 1, 2014 Author Report Posted September 1, 2014 Is winnipeg not hosting the Grey Cup next year? does that mean we are trading for Ricky Ray? Floyd 1
Floyd Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 With a few teams already in rebuild, maybe Walters has some trade bait.... Alexander, Newman, Renaud, Suber...? Any of these guys would help Ottawa. If Watson stays healthy one more game, I would dangle him to Ottawa I know they just extended Shologan but maybe we can pry him out of there... provided his knee is just banged up. Maybe Conor Williams? Would love to snag Nolan MacMillan - to me, he's a bright spot in Ottawa this year...

I can appreciate Grigsby's talents and I'm sure he has secured his position but they need to find a back like Allen to compliment his style. As for Messam, might as well try to catch a leprechaun, Bombers will never find a Natl. back like that again. My tears still fall...
TBURGESS Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Weren't folks saying that Messam wouldn't do anything for the rest of the season and we'd handle him this game because we knew it was coming? Wrong and wrong. Just as wrong to say he wouldn't have been useful to us.

Goalie Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 Messam has had 2 good games this entire season, both vs the bombers, i wish people would actually look at the bigger picture and realize that our team is very vulnerable to the run, it's not just messam and the riders that have run on us, it's the entire league. Doesn't matter what team we play, they all run on us. NotoriousBIG 1
Bomber Diehard Posted September 1, 2014 Report Posted September 1, 2014 We need a couple Canucks, that being OL or DL. Late NFL cuts being a MLB and a RB that are big. A free agent OL that is a Canuck would be nice to sign this winter.

Doesn't matter what team we play, they all run on us. with Messam isn't it because he's only played against us since being picked up by Saskatchewan? I'm not sure actually but, the point was, it doesn't matter who the running back or team is, they all run on us, we can't stop the run, teams know this, teams with power running backs like sask and Toronto and Edmonton for that matter have run all game on us and we couldn't stop them.. The book is out on our d, They are actually half decent against the pass, actually a pretty good D but we can't do anything to stop the run, This is a problem and it's an ETCH scheme problem.. Don't matter which players we have out there, it's all about the scheme and the scheme we run, we are vulnerable to the run. Isn't that the book on Etch though? Decent against the pass, terrible against the run? Pretty sure this was the biggest fear some people had when ETCH was hired, he pretty much doesn't care about the run, sets the team up to fail versus the run, the schemes are not designed to stop the run, too much over thinking "mad scientist" stuff, Don't get me wrong though, i think the D has kept us in a few games this year and even won a few games for us too but they are very very very vulnerable vs teams who have bigger running backs. We contained Ford pretty good, we contain running backs like ford pretty good but you put in a guy like Messam or Allen (really just had one run yesterday that went for yards though) or Slaton or a guy like Steele or Thomas in Edmonton and we can't stop them. We are too small and I'm not gonna blame the players for that, It's the D coordinator who puts them in those positions where they are destined to fail. Fatty Liver 1

Wrong and wrong. Just as wrong to say he wouldn't have been useful to us. Two advantages I can think of for taking Messam when they had the chance. 1. He's playing for the Bombers 2. He's not playing for the Riders. It's like handing a thug a stick to beat you with.

Hugh Charles was run out of town and he had 79 yards rushing in one half behind that o-line.
