Logan007 Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Eat that doubters. See what happens when you give your RB more then 10 carries and he actually knows how to run through holes? 14 attempts for 108 yards and 2 TD against one of the best teams (if not the best) in the league. Grigsby was a fantastic receiver, but he would hesitate when those holes were opened for him. Cotton see's the hole, no matter how small, and runs straight through it. Loving me some Cotton again. James Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 blew through some arm tackles too... something that Grigsby couldn't do

Cotton played behind an oline like we had the first games of the year where Grigsby ran for 120 yards. In last week's game where Cotton played behind the same line Grigsby had been he did just as little. Cotton did have a very good game but surely you will admit the line was totally different than it had been since the beginning of September.

The pressure the D had on our QB was just as bad as usual, we just had Brohm who was getting rid of the football faster, and Marve who was running away from the pressure, which tells me our Oline was not doing much better then usual. I think Cotton is just getting his groove back finally now that he's getting reps and starting to read the defense better. You're right, it is just one game, but I think if they keep giving Cotton the ball, he'll really show when he can do. Also, the first game we played was against Toronto when they were at their worst. That's when Grigsby ran all over them. This was against one of the best teams in the league, who just came off fresh from a buy week.
B-F-F-C Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Paris has a strange running style. He has a short stride and he seems like he's hunched over all the time. But who cares what he looks like, as long as he hits those holes and can break a tackle or two.
iso_55 Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 You want a running back to be "hunched over". That way be can absorb the hit, have less surface for the tacklers to grab, use his shoulder pads to fight thru tacklers, keep his legs turning & even dole out some punishment of his own.
pigseye Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 The threat of a running QB makes the read option so much more effective for the RB and the Stamps had not prepared for it, from what I could tell. Stubler was screaming at his ends for losing contain.
gbill2004 Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Part of Cotton's scouting report from ESPN: Cotton is a vastly undersized all-purpose back and return specialist that will likely find most of his production come in the return game at the next level. Is an extremely quick back that slips through tiny creases and has very good foot quickness in the hole. Shows good vision...

Well I guess we should be all happy now that we have a good running back. Puzzling how O'Shea did not figure that out 10 weeks ago. We would surely be in the playoffs instead of being out looking in. It was not very nice of him to tell us everything about the team was cool when a guy was doing bugger all was not replaced sooner by another able to rip up the yards. How can you explain that. By your inattention to that issue you might want to take some credit for the fans who did not show up at the game. Fatty Liver 1
iso_55 Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Be in the playoffs with Cotton had they played him as opposed to Grigsby? I highly doubt that. You don't lose 7 in a row just because your running back can't break tackles. #otherissues DR. CFL 1

You don't lose 7 in a row just because your running back can't break tackles. #otherissues Well I don't know. The feeling here is that Cotton has gotten his groove after after one game so had he been put in say in late August there were three games where Grigsby got a total of 73 yards. With Cotton fine tuned we could have won at least three games. As one reminded me yesterday he ran against the best well rested defense and look what he did. The main reason he did very well was the oline played better and the QB's were not known from films like things were at the start of the year. Let's get this straight. My beef has never been about the running back but with our Oline. They showed up to play last night after two months of snoozing. It's not about Grigsby vs Cotton. Cotton might be a better back and if that's the case that's great. It would also appear we will be able to see what Grigsby will do with another team.
blitzmore Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 With our inability to stop the run we are lucky we won as many games as we did.

Interesting also was for the most part, Cotton either avoided or bounced off first contact. This is a very desirable trait in a RB, Grigsby at times was unable to shed the first tackler. It doesn't mean Cotton is better but it certainly is something to be excited about. I liked what I saw from him last night.

Yes he looked much better than Grigsby ever has here. I hope his play continues he was very promising in TC but did squat in the regular season up until last night. Nice to see
Tracker Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 As great as it was to see a back break tackles and make TD's, we won't know how good Cotton can be until we have a decent O-line and the scores in games are close enough that running the ball is an option. The O-line wasn't great last night by any means, but it was a heck of a lot better than it has been, so we have hope. BC will be forewarned and may prove tougher to run against, so I hope we will see Cotton catch a few swing passes.

You don't lose 7 in a row just because your running back can't break tackles. #otherissues The entire offense would have had a much easier time with a back who could have put us into 2nd and 5 or 6 consistently vs getting nothing on most of his carries and the odd 40 yard burst. Teams have literally been teeing off on our offensive line and Willy because we had no running threat, and Grigsby didn't make anyone second guess a blitz cause all they had to do was make contact to get him down, he couldn't make anyone miss or fight through contact so literally no threat to get past that first wave on a blitz. IMO, we probably win 2-3 more games with a running threat like Cotton was last night. Mr. Perfect 1

Grigsby is off to the team that runs the least in the league, so I don't think he's going to be able to show much except as a receiver. Even with Gable, Austin did not make much of the running game.
TBieber Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 Dan LeFevour hasn't played in two months and he still leads the team in rushing yards. That tells you all you need to know about the Tiger-Cats and the amount of times they run the ball in a game. There was a time late last season when Gable rushed for over 300 yards in 3 games, and then saw the ball 7 times over the following three games. SPuDS 1

GCn20 Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 A very timely performance by Cotton for the psyche of our team. Grigsby could have remained a locker room cancer even after his departure had Cotton not quickly shown that he is clearly the better back. He did, and now all the Grigsby hub-bub will be quickly forgotten. bearpants 1
