Goalie Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 Can't say I'm surprised by this, Swiston has been here what? 3 seasons? has been injured every season pretty much, means he's probably below where he needs to be, when you keep getting injured over and over and over, you aren't gonna be able to learn much, It's too bad but the reason the guy was picked in the 4th round and not earlier was because of his injury concerns. This isn't new, this has been going on with Swiston since before he was drafted, that's why we got him in the 4th round.. If he was healthy and not injury prone, he would have probably been taken in the first 2 rounds. Oh well really. Good luck tho to Paul in the future, Hopefully he catches on somewhere cuz honestly, he seems like a good guy and hopefully gets a chance to show he can stay healthy but he couldn't stay healthy here.
Jpan85 Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 Taman's job is easy just draft the best Saskatchewan players in the draft and never have to worry about resigning them.
gbill2004 Posted October 25, 2014 Author Report Posted October 25, 2014 So I just watched O'Shea's presser today and he confirmed Swiston won't be back with the Bombers next season.
Fatty Liver Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Pencer cut, now Swiston, so much for the future depth of Natl. O-linemen, the cupboard is bare.
Mark H. Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Pencer cut, now Swiston, so much for the future depth of Natl. O-linemen, the cupboard is bare. Better keep starting 2 - 3 Americans...but improve the bloody scouting...
DR. CFL Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Perhaps the reason MOS said Swiston would not be back and was released is because as a PR player he wasn't willing to agree on a contract for next season and wanted to become a FA.
17to85 Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 draft picks are crap shoots for sure, even in football where men (not boys like in the NHL) are drafted. Primarily, it is injury related. But C'mon, he passed on Nate Coohorn and drafted Jade Etienne (who chances are would have been there in the second round) and he drafted Pencer even though he already had a history of injuries. He also drafted Mulumba even though he had already committed to the Green Bay Packers. If history has proven anything, it's that guys like Mulumba are still available and picked in the 2nd/3rd round, especially if a team has multiple picks as they can afford to waste one on a hope and a prayer. Mack could've done a lot better than what he did. Only saving grace (no thanks to Mack) is Etienne did bring us, eventually, Drew Willy. But he did not draft well, and I don't think he even fully understood the CFL draft. Walters does. Every top pick in the Mulumba draft was going to the NFL though so that's an unfair criticism. There was a belief that even with his commitment Mulumba would be back sooner rather than later. That one is hard to hold against them when everyone was going to the NFL.
blueandgoldguy Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Yet another huge offensive lineman drafted by Mack who turned out to be useless. He was ranked in the top 15 prospects by central scouting and was considered a decent steal in the 4th round. HEY NO FACTS! Every other GM in the history of sports has perfect draft picks except dirty mack! Mack's choices tended to bust more than others. It's the reason the Bombers are in the situation they are in - having the worst Canadian content in the league next to Ottawa. Those are the facts.
blueandgoldguy Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Strange that it was done now versus the off-season. Man, Mack really hurt our NI OL levels. But you know what, in the ten years he was GM, Taman drafted 2 good OL. Taman wasn't a gm for ten years
iso_55 Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Pencer cut, now Swiston, so much for the future depth of Natl. O-linemen, the cupboard is bare. Even with them here it was still bare.
Blueandgold Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Perhaps the reason MOS said Swiston would not be back and was released is because as a PR player he wasn't willing to agree on a contract for next season and wanted to become a FA. Or maybe because he's a mediocre injury prone player?
Tracker Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Perhaps the reason MOS said Swiston would not be back and was released is because as a PR player he wasn't willing to agree on a contract for next season and wanted to become a FA. Or maybe because he's a mediocre injury prone player? If he couldn't make it onto this disaster of an offensive line this year, he would have to improve substantially to be mediocre.
DR. CFL Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 I guess we will have to see if he gets recycled somewhere else because of the pure shortage of Nips
Goalie Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 Injuries have hampered his career big time, guy hasn't had a fully healthy season yet. Someone will give him a chance but it seems likely he will get hurt again cuz that's the M.O. on swiston, pretty good player when healthy but just can't stay healthy. Maybe a change of scenery changes that but highly unlikely it does.
