BigBlue Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 Based on this season's performance only, here is how I would rank these 9 CFL QBs 1. Ray 2. Levi-Mitchell 3. Reilly 4. Durant 5. Willy 6. Glenn 7. Burris 8. Collaros 9. Crompton How do you see it?
SmokinBlue Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 1. Levi-Mitchell2. Reilly3. Ray4. Durant5. Glenn6. Collaros7. Willy8. Crompton9. Burris 7 and 8 are a bit of a toss up.
Mark H. Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 Collaros had rough start to the season, Willy is not having a good finish. Both QBs are a victim of circumstances to a certain extent
AtlanticRiderFan Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 1. Levi-Mitchell 2. Reilly 3. Ray 4. Durant 5. Glenn 6. Collaros 7. Willy 8. Crompton 9. Burris 7 and 8 are a bit of a toss up. Willy is better than Glenn and Collaros. I agree with BigBlue. He's 5th best. Mr. Perfect 1
Atomic Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 Right now, I like Smokin blue's ranking. But Willy has the potential to move way up. I would have ranked Reilly similarly last year and look at him now.
Mr Dee Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 I find it very hard to rank QBs when one can't help but refer to the team's standings on those teams they play on, never mind the experience they have. I prefer to look at it as Atomic just mentioned in regards to Reilly. Last year, I thought too, that Reilly was a 'gooder', and would progress this year, and he has. Willy can be a 'gooder' next year as well, if he gets support. As far as the 'new' guys go, it's Reilly, Willy, Collaros and then Crompton.
Tracker Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Right now, I like Smokin blue's ranking. But Willy has the potential to move way up. I would have ranked Reilly similarly last year and look at him now. On the basis of performance, its hard to argue with this ranking, but if Willy hadn't been beaten to a pulp, he would be a contender for no lower than #2.
gbill2004 Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 My rankings: 1. Ray 2. Reilly 3. Mitchell 4. Durant 5. Glenn 6. Willy 7. Collaros 8. Crompton 9. Burris Willy has the potential to be number one overall. I fully expect him to be in the top 3 for several years. James 1

I would have ranked Reilly similarly last year and look at him now. I based my ranking not on stats but on what I've witnessed of how much each of these QBs has helped their team win this year. Based on Willy's potential, he very well could go way up on that list next year, just needs a competent OC, running back and to unlearn some of the crap he learned the last half of this year.
dmillerywg Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 My rankings: 1. Ray 2. Reilly 3. Mitchell 4. Durant 5. Glenn 6. Willy 7. Collaros 8. Crompton 9. Burris Willy has the potential to be number one overall. I fully expect him to be in the top 3 for several years. I like your ranking the best however I don't agree with Burris placement to me it more about the team he is on, Burris isn't number 9 ( except his by age )
17to85 Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 I just don't see the hype with Reilly. He's got a great defense backing him there... now that being said I've never liked the crappy passers who can run, but Reilly strikes me as just too chaotic. blitzmore 1
trueBlue83 Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 I think I'd bump Crompton ahead of Willy at this point... He's showing a lot of poise, and since he came in in the second half against us in August, all he's done is put up wins!
DR. CFL Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Not sure why Collaros gets very little love in these rankings. Far better numbers then Willy, half as many picks, he can scramble and has a much quicker release then Willy....something that is starting to look like a problem.
Jesse Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 We hope Willy can push himself ahead of guys like Glenn, Collaros, and the two other guys, but he hasn't this season. You can blame our OL, our injured receiving core, or the beatings he has taken, but Willy hasn't proven he can score in the red zone or elevate those around him. Right now, I have him ahead of the Ottawa-version of Burris, and Crompton, but he hasn't shown more than anyone else yet.

Oh no, he can't do any of that; all he can do is orchestrate a scoring drive and throw a 27 yard TD on third down to win the game.
Blueandgold Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Willy has only had a better season than Crompton and Burris. He's very close to Collaros and Glenn but I think they've outplayed him.
trueBlue83 Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Crompton has started 8 games and is 7-1 as a starter.... if you look at his attempts & completions, they are roughly half of what Willy's are with more yardage, and more importantly, wins. I like Willy, and I think he's got great potential to be a starter here for a long time (with the right pieces around him), I just think there's other young QBs this year who have progressed just as well, and in some cases better than Willy... again, with a better supporting cast!

I agree, as far as first year starters goes Willy comes in at #3 behind both Crompton and Collaros. These two have been creating excitement and success with their teams which is the opposite of what's happened in Wpg. lately. I don't see this vaunted leadership quality emanating from Willy, he acts more like an over-grown grumpy teenager to me.
Blueandgold Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 In no way shape or form is Crompton better than Drew Willy. That's absolutely ridiculous.
trueBlue83 Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 well you're going to have 2-3 maybe 4 more times to watch Crompton this season.... you tell me that after the season is done. Again... I like Willy, but I also think that Crompton is starting to settle in, and is looking quite good back there. Based on wins alone, I give Crompton the edge at this point. More wins in half the games, hard to argue with... oh, and I hate the Als...

Play calling in the red zone has negatively impacted us as well....If I see one more fade route??????
blueandgoldguy Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Willy slots in behind Glenn. I guess as the season progressed Collaros moved ahead of him as well, although he has been rather inconsistent especially with the game on the line. Crompton will top out as nothing more than an average QB imo. Low pass completion percentages for this era, especially when you factor in a decent O-line and one of the better receiving cores in the CFL. Not a very accurate QB, nor is he a great scrambler. I would be surprised if he is still a starter two years from now.
FrostyWinnipeg Posted October 29, 2014 Report Posted October 29, 2014 Ray's back to his only showing up for half a game mode so not sure why he's rated so high. BLM is #1 but a lot of that has to do with the best o-line/team in the league. That's my 2 cents. Willy's in the middle but sliding down.
Doublezero Posted October 30, 2014 Report Posted October 30, 2014 Willy is the 9th best QB in the league right now. Whether it's due to injury, shellshock, inexperience, poor schemes, poor coaching, receiver carousel, or a combination of all of these, he just hasn't performed as well as the 8 other currently starting QBs. The main problem is he takes way too long to get the ball in play and to make his reads. And part of it is circumstantial: lack of a running game, difficulties with QB protection. But where a better QB might overcome some of the limitations the team has placed on him, Willy hasn't. On the contrary, he has regressed. His throwing accuracy hasn't even been very good the last 2/3 of the season either. Hopefully he ends the season on a positive note and the club can put him in a better position to succeed next year. It would be progess if we have good competition at the QB position in training camp 2015 - and if someone else shows better than Willy they should start.
Tracker Posted October 31, 2014 Report Posted October 31, 2014 It is to be hoped that they do a mind-wipe on Willy so that he forgets the merciless pounding he has taken this year (and will probably get another helping of from Calgary). That sort of 10-sack pounding has to wear on his confidence and ability to focus. In the Calgary Herald today the Stamp D-linemen were described as smacking their lips in anticipation of fattening their sack totals. They appear to look to the game as a full-contact practice.
